In what they call a crazy joke, Czech Amiga News announce that rumours of their death were greatly exaggerated. Those of you reading these lines should know, that Wintopia2000 was just a small joke to celebrate our 2 years anniversary of our Amiga related news service activities :-) What a black humor you say? Well, the design took ExiE two days of work. There were quite a few hints that their demise wasn't for real, this news item and some of these comments for example, but frankly, I wouldn't have expected this kind of April 1st joke on any other 364 days of the year.

this is just my personal opinion.
It was bad. Real bad. It is to a point where I don't even want to bother looking at that site anymore. I'd rather translate fun-timenews.de by hand than look at it for that matter. Just my cents in the pool for ExIE.

Nice joke!
when I tested all links und buttons and got some Winblows-error-messages, I expected something like this.
But at first, it was a shock!

It was too bad to be taken seriously anyway. Many people believed it, including me for a few moments...

I'm glad it was only a joke because it is the best Amiga news site.

My first reaction was "what the.." but the microsoft ads, the name
"wintopia" and the imo very funny "real world" talk made me think it
must be a joke. The "error messages" when you clicked on the links
made me almost certain it was a joke. I thought it was really funny,
but almost no one else seemed to spot and at least not appreciate the
joke. I think it's funny in many ways at once. I guess I just love
this kind of subtle but brutal humour. :)

I thought it was interesting that practically nobody commented
about the "news" for more than 24 hours.
Waiting to see what everyone else thought I guess.
We Amigans are a bit sensitive about closures.

In the tradition of "War of the Worlds" on the radio long ago, I suppose. Hrmph... ;  }
There were lots of clues contained in the messages and the presentation. But among the masses I've seen much gnashing of teeth and righteous wails of despair. Whilst over in the poorer quarter of the village I then verily observed savage cries of "Get torches and pitchforks and farm implements and let us verily rend their garments in tatters and thus even unto their bodily parts!"
Why, some would even proclaim unto this day a public stoning though the veils of illusion were quickly cast asunder. "Yea, let us go unto DefCon 4..."

Hey it was a clever joke, but I still don't think it beats the IWin joke.

YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE AND A FAGGOT
When I saw that Czech Amiga News stopped the Amiga coverage, I just reported it to my local forum (under the title "Czech Amiga News goes GAY") and that's it...
We still had some good newspages like ANN and amiga-news.de.
Yesterday I saw that it was a just a joke by ExiE and I laughed...
So get a grip you pathetic loser and get a life... dickhead.

You will pardon me, but your posting is something that makes me laugh actually. Did anyone really see the severity of ExiE's joke? Probably not. Among the top five news publications listed online for the Amiga, ExiE's CAN is one of them. How does it look to a seperate party that is interested in investing in the Amiga when the IPO is released. The same effect of "Bill McEwen calls it quits" on CNN is what ExiE's little stunt was like. The questions would be, what made that particular news site call it quits, and what effect does it have on the rest of community. For those that are just glancing over the highlights of the Amiga, that was a very sick joke. This is my opinion, and no amount of name calling will ever change it Frank, name calling is childish, back up your side of the argument instead.

In your original posting you wrote:

Are you serious? Please... Czech Amiga News is one of the best sites and I'd be really dumb if I stopped reading it just because they made a joke... (that can increase their publicity btw...)
I'm fed up with winers and doomsayers.
As for the IPO thing, it's just an assumption. (and judging by the state of the Amiga, there's not much harm left to be done; almost everybody has been screwing us since 1994)
And yes, my posting made *me* laugh too, but crappy postings like yours get crappy answers. Names calling *IS* childish and it was the best way to answer to your *childish* reaction to ExiE's joke...
Next time try to make a good point from the beginning and you'll probably get serious, mature responses.
Cheers

Well, point in fact that I've been following the Amiga for only about six months trying to convince our firm to open a bid on the IPO might actually mean something. I had about 60% of the firm convinced that Amiga was a good buy but then when some of them saw the "closing" of ExiE's site listed here and other Amiga news sites, it went down to 32%. Yeah, losing money makes me feel really good about myself, just makes me want to laugh like a mad man knowing how funny that really is. If you lost a potential 1.6 on a not yet available IPO, how would that make you feel?

If their investment was depending on a hobby news site project, then really they have now made the
right decision. Sure, this was a joke, but people should be aware of
the work ExiE is putting into CAN and everyone should realize that
this is not something to take for granted.

As I've already said:
"Next time try to make a good point from the beginning and you'll probably get serious, mature responses." Your original posting was not serious and childish (I'm bored of repeating myself).
And Johan Ronblohm (Comment 19) is quite right. An investment decision is based on financial analyses and hard financial facts, not on whether a newssite has changed it's orientation or not. So do you have a financial officer/advisor/analyst/manager in your company or do company members just vote on which stocks you will buy? The latter of course does not seem very professional. As for Amiga Inc's stock (if an IPO is ever made) being a "good buy", no one can know that for sure, especially if no big partners and important partnerships (like AmigaOS in a kewl Sony electronic gadget or television) materialize.

Interesting, from reading your message again on comment 17, you might be mistaken my own hand for that of whoever posted the first comment. I can assure you that it was not my post. Johan does have some interesting information that I will share with the rest of the firm. I can assure you that it isn't a small hobby group or anything. there are a few people in the same area of the "ladder" which must present our information about these IPOs and TBA IPOs to the financial manager which does make the final call. So we'll see what happens next week. You might want to take note of the official press release that Amiga did with Matrox for interesting partnerships.

That's exactly what one would've thought by reading your response to my initial posting (plus the fact that you signed as "Anonymous" which does not really help).
The Amiga-Matrox partnership could potentially be a good thing as far as drivers go. Amiga already has a load of partnerships with big companies, but what do these partnerships mean? Some extra drivers, some additions to "Amiverse" or whatever they call their software. Nothing more, nothing less, until we see a tangible product.
I cannot really believe that your colleagues would be influenced (at least not to that extent) by a newssite in an almost non existant market (the Amiga market). CAN, ANN, amiga-news.de etc are not companies but hobby sites and you really cannot base your decision on what's happening with them as they're run by people who do it for fun; and can stop doing it due to personal reasons (which could have been the case a month ago with ANN if Christian had not changed his mind).
If, for instance, Adobe and Corel had been producing software for the Amiga and then decided to pull out of the Amiga market, that would've been a good indicator of the market's status that an analyst could base his decisions on.
But definitely not the departure of a newssite... hell, 99% of print Amiga magazines have already died. Isn't that a good indicator?
