According to Joe Torre, the BoXeR development team is also working on a laptop Classic Amiga (about time we got one of those!).

If they were realy good they could try and make it as small as possible like a mini laptop, considdering their nice 3in1 custom chipset is nice and compact. I for one would jump at the chance to own one. But I hope they give it 2xPCMCIA.

Sure, we'd all like one of those, but when the h*** are they due for release? Q4 2010? Or maybe that's being optimistic.... ;)

Hasn't Anti-Gravity been advertising Boxer systems for two years? Now wait a minute, I could have sworn they did. The "Alien".
A laptop Amiga is nearly impossible to produce due to market conditions, the cost and limited supply of LCD machines, and the lack of existing Amiga prefabs of an onboard VGA controller. Not to mention the six-digit upfront cost of creating a die with which to mold a case.
Guess what--it will be more impressive than a PAWS, cost twice as much, and won't come out until 2006. Judge Antigravity by their record, look at the quality of their public relations, their erratic and non-commital behavior, and you'll quickly realize that this is more of their crappy fluff. Not to mention, it makes NO business sense whatsoever.
You really want a laptop? Buy one. Want to run Amiga software on it? UAE will be just as fast, if not faster on a P3 than anything AG puts out--and for a quarter of the price, too.
Don't believe the hype.

I'd have to say that a laptop version of the Amiga is long overdue and something
I'd would buy, but so far the BoXer people haven't actually produced anything.
I've been to four shows where the BoXer was on display - all were non-functional.
This is not to say that I don't believe they won't ever produce the boards, I
just feel they need to get SOMETHING out soon before everyone loses interest.
There has been more activity of late with BoXer, such as the recent hirings and
the handheld by Mick Tinker being shown around, but please lets get something
out for the long suffering public.
BTW - there was supposed te be a working BoXer at the AmiWest show. Joe Torre was
to do the demo. Has anyone heard if it happened?
I'm looking forward to buying an AmigaOne, but I still want a "classic" Amiga
laptop, handheld, desktop or whatever if BoXer can produce.

In reply to Comment 8 (Len Carsner):
See the various show comments further down in ANN's list. Joe was at the AmiWest show but there was only a target dummy (a poor soul who had to tell everyone that there was no machine) rather than even a non-working box.
As for "we're doing a laptop too" between Mick, the previous funders, and AntiGravity I'll have to see several thousand of them before I'll believe the first one.

Fast enough P3 notebooks are *quite* pricely, though these are needed if you want it to work good. And Anyway, it's maybe good for old games, but not for serious work, not mentioning PPC apps. (BTW, the G3's are much more suitable for laptops than the Pentiums.) I suppose their laptop will use a G3, and will come w/out a 68K.

Will this ever stop?
Anti Gravity?
Sure, the same people who are very well "respected" when "credible" when
it comes to honesty and commitment.
Give it up guys, let them figure out what is wrong with the original design first, and
then ship it, and then maybe we'll talk about anything else.
What will be th price, if it ever came out? $6000? $10000?
What it will have? a 68K CPU? or PPC? Or what?
You people keep falling for this, and companies will never stop baiting you.
What is really sad here that Joe got himself associated with these people.

I would have to agree with most of the opinions expressed here.
1. I would love an Amiga laptop or PDA, not at $1800 and up though.
2. Even if Mick and Joe finished the design, I doubt Antigravity would effectively get it out. Figure with their stellar history and continued legal woes, I doubt any company would advance them money.
3. I am sorry to see that Joe T.'s name tarnished by any of this even if he is not responsible for any of the questionable business practices. Then again, Dave Haynie's name survived his unfortunate Commodore employment. :-)
4. As to date Amiga has told me that Antigravity does not have an OS license. If this was a european product fine, but now that an American company owns the rights, I am sure Amiga (if not Gateway) would shut this puppy down if it so chooses.

OH GREAT! 10 years too late and probably 10 times the price of other platforms. Might be nice if there would complete their first project, the boxer! I say, Put up or shut up!

Strange, UAE in an 700MHz Athlon - 192MB is so slow I don't dare to run DOpus
Magellan as a Workbench replacement. Perhaps it is my 060/PPC/SCSI/GFXcard Amiga
I am used to using ....

Much more than a laptop or the Boxer I would like to see the "Amiga On A Card".
For me, this is the future. The Amiga on a PCI card sounds much more inviting to me.

Clearly a bunch of starters not finishers. I would be more impressed if they
finished just *ONE* project they had started before embarking on another endeavor.

Ah, an amiga portable....if only!
But let's just think about one or two things. Even normal
PC portables are not cheap. Add to that the cost of your
amiga hardware and it's gonna cost a packet -- best guess
over £1500. For that price you could get a half decent
portable PC.
Firstly, like others here I would much rather see a working
Boxer than a portable. But then again it's more likely this
announcement or whatever about a portable might just be
"testing the water" so to speak, see if there's any real
intrest - so a future product can be made.
But since the boxer's not even working yet they should really
concentrate on that. With every day that passes PC hardware
changes and changes; even if the boxer does appear sooner rather
than later how is it going to compete with the very rapid pace
of PC hardware? If it dosen't it's gonna be out of date in 6
months!
Me, I wouldn't mind a new amiga -- boxer or portable. I hate this
awful m$/PC stuff -- browsing the internet is soooo unstable. But
please, please concentrate on getting the boxer working first
before anything else!!!!

A completed Boxer would be nice thing to see. If its got PCI, maybe someone can come up with drivers to use the PeeCee video cards on the market on the classic Amiga.
It sure would help fill the need of Amiga users looking for better video on their machines. People wouldn't have to scrounge around for a used PicassoIV (or other out-of-production cards) and paye hundreds of dollars for it/them.

Sorry to dissapoint you but PC hardware and software surpassed the Amiga's years ago. I honestly can't see the point of the boxer at all.
At this stage there is no market,no software and no hardware. Amiga users have a reputation for being really tight with money, why else would they cling to a mostly dead platform.
Unless a new Amiga with equal or better power than today's PC/Mac comes out you have no chance. I don't really see new users (and that's what is needed to build market share) getting excited over something like a classic Amiga.
If you ask me the battle was lost years ago before C= went bankrupt and the Amiga saw almost no development for years and the compnay sat back charging huge margins on their boxes.
But unfortunately PC's caught up and it was too late by then as C= had lost years and so Amiga users are left with the current situation.
Many takeovers etc but still no new machine...
I have to come clean I am a PC user but I still remeber the excitement of my brand new Amiga1000,loved my a2000,a4000. IF they could get that sort of innovation and technical advantages back then I'd buy one. But otherwise why the hell would anybody buy a machine that was dated when it was released like the a1200/a4000 classic.

I agree. That is why the boxer is not intersting to me but to others that peffer the classic line to anything else at least the boxer, if it ever ships, will allow them the best of both worlds classic Amiga or TNG Amiga. I for one am looking forward to the TNG. So far the developers kit has not been a let down in, fact it is one of the most innovative ideas I have seen in my 10 + years of computing and programming. I really think that if Amiga sticks with their plan they will have a winner here. In the next coming 6 to 8 months a revolution may be at hand. Lets get ready people

I myself don't ask you, because you don't take everything important into consideration. F.ex. it's true C= stopped real progress, but 3rd parties carried it further. Users with PPC (or even 060) and GFX/Audio-cards can take good use of their machines. And, BoXeR is not just a Classic. Is has decent structure.

On my Mobile Celeron 500MHz equipped laptop UAE's performance is roughly equivalent
to 030/33. I find it quite usable, although I was 060 user, too.
