I phoned and drove around a lot this morning, and finally found a school where classes weren't too crowded yet. So, after much thinking and considering, I now resigned from my job and I'm going back to school. I'd like to thank everybody for the comments and emails that reached me since yesterday evening, you sure made a difference! Not only did your ideas, stories, comments and also opposing views help me to realize which route I must take, but you also created an awesome compilation of wisdom I can go back to should I ever be in doubt later on.

Well done!
I hope that you do well at school, and beyond. University will be fun, and it will open up a whole new world of opportunity.
Just remember to do the learning part of school, and you will be fine. What subjects will you be taking in your final year?
Hope you have the time to keep ANN up and running, it is a great site.

> What subjects will you be taking in your final year?
In Luxembourg you don't have the possibility to chose subjects individually, but can only opt for a few different directions, depending on our choices in previous years. I opted for a mix of languages/economy in my second-last year and therefore have to stick to that. Other orientations would have been: pure languages, natural sciences, economy with more maths, pure maths, music and arts.
If I remember correctly (it's been a year since I last thought about this), I'm taking:
- 3 hours German
- 3 hours French
- 3 hours English
- 3 hours Maths
- 4 hours "économie politique"
- 2-3 hours "sciences économiques"
- 2-3 hours philosophy (don't remember which is 2 and which is 3)
- 2 hours "statistiques"
- 2 hours geography
- 2 hours history
- 1 hour physical education
- 1 hour art history
- 2 hours Italian (new this year)
All courses except the different languages are taught in French.
Hope this provided some insight into the Luxembourgish school system. :)

Also concentrate in/on the business related topics.
For instance my developer this morning creativly suggested adding a feature which would increase sales by rewarding people for buying more.
This blend of techiness and business intelligence gets, at least clients, excited.
In fact he got the project because he was the only one whose software worked alongside business processes.

I agree. Understanding the economic side of things as well as the technical side is highly valued in IT industry these days (so I'm told!).

Good choice CK! :)
I'm sure you'll do well this time and you'll enjoy the student life... afterall
only as a student you can party all the days :))
Take this year for deciding what to do at university and consider going to study
in the US or in UK since they have the best IT or economics/management universities
And... I hope the c.s.amiga.* coverage will return to be like in past!

It is at times and circumstances like this that we stand as a real "community".
The rest of the time, we're in a dogpile...;')

Good for you Christian. Now you can meet people of like mind, get advice from
others heading in the same direction, and feel confidant about it all. You'll do
great.

I am glad to hear that you are going back to your studies.
I hope that your ex-employer will take you back when you have finished your studies and more importantly,
during your holidays since the summer break is the worst if you have little money.
Maybe staying on on saturdays is a good idea.
I am sure that you will enjoy yourself at Uni.
Good luck and I am sure that if you need any help you can count on us
to point you in the wrong direction :-)
God Bless
Flav

Good choice, Christian.
Whether economically you will be better off (probably yes) or
not, there is also (among others) the issue of self-esteem --
I predict you'll feel greater sense of worth (maybe not next
week or next month, but...) and who can put a price on that?
Best of luck (you'll also find it easier, I wager, that it was
when you bailed out a year or so ago, just because you're more
motivated and mature)!
Ed

Dear Christian,
In my opinion you made the right decision. I felt very sad for you when you told us last year, that you did not get your degree and therefor had to work..
Now do your best to finish highschool! BTW can`t you get a scholarship when you go to the university? (I did get 4 years of scholarship here in Holland)
I wish you the best of luck!
Sincerely, Mike Bouma.

Christian,
Great decision and do not get discouraged. It took me years to get my
degree while working full time. Getting a degree opened more jobs for me.
I am very grateful that I had a family who told me to keep at it. I can
never repay them for that encouragement. My parents always said
'Education is never a waste', and I think they are right.
Just my 2 cents....
