It appears that this VoodooI-based 3D accelerator module for the Picasso IV boards will be released after all. Blittersoft write: "We have this week received news with confirmation of the ParaGlide project. We have been urged to keep pre-orders open so if you wish to secure your unit on release, be sure to pre-order now!"

games, or does it have any advantages for serious applications as well?

Well, from what I hear, Mediator will simply not be made for an A4000T,
only possibly the desktops. Predator might be made for A4000T, but
this is not decided for sure and may not be. So for those of us stuck with
these "high-end" machines that may not get the new PCI goodies, it's the
best option we'll have. Same for A3000(T) owners. Sure, it's not as cool
as the Voodoo3 you may get for your 1200 or 4000 desktop, but it's better
than the no 3d at all that I currently have, and still better than the
Permedia2 that I don't want anyway. I certainly do hope that Predator
does get made for my machine, I'll be first in line to buy it, but while
we wait for any announcements I hope to have something else to play with.

A bit too late, or what? When Shogo and Solider of Fortune come out, a voodoo1 won't have the power to run those kind of games.

Maybe at least these will work in the basic resolution, 640x480, not 800x600/1024x768, and at lower fps, 25-30 (enough for now), not 60+, and maybe lacking some little effects. (In the second-hand PC shops, you can still find Voodoo1 cards.)

Well,
Sounds too little too late and too much. A voodoo I for 85pounds + you have to buy a picassoIV (which is not even listed on the website).
They wonder why amiga users whinge - that is why you pay 5x as much for a product that everyone else stopped using 3 years ago.
The reason why the Amiga is so dead now is that h/w and s/w developers have stopped innovating and now blindly playing the game of PC/M$ catch-up. In that game you are always going to be behind...

Heh - I paid 50$ (USD) for a Voodoo 2 the other day (PCI). My original one cost me like 153$. I guess this picasso module is going to run over 160+ in the US - not to mention you still need the non-existant 400+$ Picasso 4 board to plug it into.
Amiga's aren't very fun to upgrade anymore. Its getting painful.

most insane Amigan would pay $400 for a Picasso IV + $150 (or whatever)
for the Paraglide, just to be able to play a few games ported from the PC.
But, if like me you already have a Picasso IV, then it makes some sense.
It's mostly good enough for the few games the classic Amiga will get that
need 3D, and is the least expensive option. Plus I know it will work with
my A1200T; the Mediator/Predator might not fit properly. Plus it's the only
way I know of to get NTSC/PAL screens + 2D/3D graphics card screens to work
on the same monitor without fooling around with switch boxes or multiple
monitors.
I'd given up on it but I think maybe I'll get one after all.

No Voodoo is only good? for games as it requires its own screen so for example using it to render 3d stuff is not really efficient as you would be swapping screens all the time from your modeller to your renderer.
Anything other than games would be fairly hacky as it doesn't have a 2d core and is designed only for 3d acceleration. You need to have a 2D card for passthrough.
I don't doubt that some enterprising individual will find some other uses for this rig but it will be a hacked one.

Are you sure the 3D add-on works with an A1200 as that is only ZorroII and the specs required ZorroIII
i believe ?
Anyway, a PCI Voodoo should also fit in an A1200 with Permedia2 :) Permedia2 for
2D and Voodoo1 for 3D, quite funky combination.

most of them jump ship. I was one of them, and I bought a
Picasso IV in January 1999 (I didn't have one when I
pre-ordererd), but I sold my Amiga early this year. Obviosly,
I'm not more interested in it.
My personal advice for Blittersoft and VT is to abandon the
project now, before they loose too much money.

As for pre-ordering anything from Blittersoft, ask someone on the IFusion board
about when they are getting their stuff. I have had it prepaid for over a year.

Right, I have a A1200T + ZorroIII busboard + CyberstormPPC (233MHz),
making it the fastest (and most hacked) A1200 model on Earth. It
actually works OK once you get revisions of the motherboard and
ZorroIII board that work together.
Not that I would recommend it to anyone (get a A4000 I say), but at
least I can use the Paraglide if it really is "for real" this time....
