One has to wonder about the pushed-back release date; Amiga has made a policy of not jumping the gun, but the ~Christmas release always seemed a bit over-optimistic. Is the PS2 reallllly going to be so important to Amiga's marketing strategy, or is it a handy excuse? Might Amiga have a deal with Sony, perhaps?

In reply to Comment 1 (Anonymous Coward):
Possibly. Remember that one of the AmigaOE selling points is the ability to retarget itself on different machines, even game consoles. IMO, it's not a bad idea to wait for the PS2 to be available:
1) AInc./TAO may have enough time to write the translator for PS2, so that games
developers may deploy their AmigaOE-based games to the new console. This may also build a considerable momentum among big names in games development.
2) in the light of the above point, the AmigaOne would clearly benefit from the existence of (hopefully!) top-selling games that are marketed for PS2. This could solve the 'chicken and egg' problem.
Just my $.02
Stefano.

Excuse or not, there will be a hell of a furore over the PS2, and not
just with kids. Part of Sony's success with the PS originally was that
it targetted the older (age 20-40) generation of gamer from the "old
days" and skipped the cutesey kids stuff. A large number of people
sympathetic to the alternative computing cause will be interested in
the PS2 and not be listening to other "minor" stuff of interest.
It seems a sensible move to me. Provided they don't get swamped by all
the other companies trying the same tactic. :-)

ANN is great, and there are some other great news sites too.
But...
Is it just me or are the lack of updates on the official amiga.com site becoming a bit annoying? Having to track down news snippets and interviews here and there is okay, but how about some updates at amiga.com?
BILL!!! Are you asleep? We want to know more!

In reply to Comment 7 (Ian):
It's a cheap DVD player, with all the rest sneaking in to the
home or thrown in free. A bit like the Amiga cd box idea but at the
right time with presumably the right execution.
