Hyperion have the first progress report on the Amiga port of Descent: Freespace online here. The game's running and looking great on the Amiga.

I feel quite sorry for Hyperion. They`re busting a gut trying to keep the Amiga
games market alive, but probably aren`t getting the sales they deserve because
people can`t buy the hardware they need to play them. The sooner the new PPC
cards appear,the better.

In reply to Comment 1 (Alan Watson):
Even if Descent Freespace won't require such a monster machine as the one needed by Heretic II, we all definitely need new hardware, a solution for the Voodoo3 on PCI and rapidly !
And maybe some good news will arrive soon.

It is superb, if they support also 060 & CV64-3D.
Even though I would only be able to play in 320x200 resolution or something,
I would buy it. (mainly for support)

As you may read in the progress report, Freespace uses at least a 640x480 screen.
That's why a gfx board is recommended.

All good PPC games released are on my buy-list, and this one looks particularly exciting. The Amiga has to few good games of this type. Nice job Hyperion!

Damn i would love to buy some nice games like that one, but my other specs (060/CV3D OC) are okay, but slow Z2 just spoils the fun for everything.
I think my only reasonable choice at this time would be a nice Z2/3 board and a way to attach Mediator into it too. Does the Winner ZIV board work like that? Any ideas?

Hi!
We will try to support 060+CV/3D based systems, but we cannot promise
yet that this will be fast enough. It should hopefully
be clear at the time the second progress report
is coming. 320x200 is not possible, Freespace is
using 640x480 always. But the engine really is not
that "heavy" like other 3D Engines, so there *are*
chances.

More Hardware support that would be nice, But why don't thy program it for 030 16 MB Fast ram, thy say that Amiga is better then PC ??? Well let show it, and make a better game then QUAKE. Digital dreams is making good Games and it is also running on a 030, those stupid 3D games

I like to see more hardware support for Amiga 1200, Why are thy making 3D games try to make better games for Amiga and run it on a amiga 1200 with 68030 16 MB fast ram. Digital dreams entertainment, thy make good games also it run's on a 68030, 16 Mb fast. 3D games asking to much Hardware support, but you can buy only PPC to expensieve,Amiga is a great computer better then PC so let show it.

Am I the only one that thinks that the last two messages are from the same person? :o)
I would love to agree with you, but I think the amount of games that will play well on 030/16mb/aga Amiga has already reached its limit. I've got an 060/Gfx card and still games can be really slow.. even Foundation sucks in anything over 320x200 here, and thats not a 3d game. Theres physical boundaries there as well, its not *all* down to good programming you know.
Also, with the presence of the mediator, getting a kick arse amiga is about to come a whole lot cheaper... you could probably have a G3 and Good graphics card for a lot less than a 603 and CvPPC/Bvision, and it should be faster too. Well providing people keep to their promises that is :o)

You must have a Zorro2 or Ateobus gfx card then...unfortunately people
with that setup are in a hard place since any recent games are going
to be 640x480 minimum, and you really need Zorro3 for that (or I guess
Cyber/BlizzardVision). No matter how fast your CPU, Zorro2 is just
too slow for anything except mostly static screens...or really low
resolution....

Yeah, unfortunatley I got convinced to buy one of those crappy Z4 busboards. At the time it seemed the best zorro expansion I could've got for my A1200, considering two of the slots ran at double speed. However DCE have got themselves into my bad books once again, they announced that the new Cv643d MkII would be able to run at double speed in the z4. However it doesnt work. An update has been promised for months now, but still no sign of it from anyone :( This severely pissed me off considering the only reason I got it was because I thought it would be faster than plain old ZII, but in the end thats what I'm stuck with. Complete waste of £260.
