Everything he has done for us:
-keep the AGA specs from Mick Tinker so he had to go out and use that as an excuse why the BoXeR isn't out yet
-didn't work with Phase5 on the ppc stuff back in 1995/96 so that we still don't have a AmigaOS that does PPC natively
-keep the price of the A4000 artificially high and not allow cloning of it
-...
Oh yeah, I wish him well in his retirement

Thanks Petro I whish you the Best. And as many of you may know it is time to move on things change that is what life is all about change. So to must Amiga change in order to survive so we should thank Petro for keeping the Amiga Alive until the right team with vision could be found to bring the change that Amiga needs in order to continue. Lets stand behind Bill and Fleecy and the rest of the Amiga inc. team and support the new Amiga when it arrives. Look no one likes losing something that they have used for years and still can continue to use. But time shows us that there is a time for everything a time to die a time to love a time to hate. So this is the time to let go of the classic Amiga and embrace to the the new becuse if we don't others will and we will be left behind.

It is with great regret that we recieve the news of Petro's retirement (resignation). We will miss him greatly there is no one who has been so loyal and persistant than Petro. The fact that the office in Germany is closing is no good news thogh there is something going on that they are not saying. If this was a public company this will go without an explanation and expression of why he is really leaving ( or they leting him go and why).
Good luck petro in your next adventure I know you are too young to retire. And thank you from all of us at PAX (the proffesional Amiga Exchang).

This is very said news.
Petro has done so much for us. I'm sure that he's the one who convinced Amiga Inc. of a new classic OS3.9.
The sad news is that OS3.9 will probably the last classic OS. No PPC version :((
One question: why has Amiga germany to close it doors?? It the same compagny is it?
Or is it the classic department?
Anyway I wish you luck and hope that you will continue to use an amiga as a hobby in all your spare time :)

Its a great shame Petro is retiring as he has served the Amiga
magnificently in recent years.
However, why is Petro "retiring" at such a strange time & why on earth
is Amiga DE closing? I think it could have something to do with his
recent other employment activities. I would also speculate that the
reason why Amiga DE is closing (the fundamental European link) is that
the Amiga "Classic" operations are the sole activity of Amiga DE and
this news and AmigaOS 3.9 news spell the end of the line for the Amiga
"Classic". Maybe Haage & Partner will continue development of the
"Classic" Amiga from now on...?

ok, so we all know Amiga Deutschland did not do any actual R&D,
basically their job was to sell off Amiga's remaining stuff that was
left over from previous owners. They have finished their job and
now they are closing. It does not have anything to do with Amiga Inc's
operation and success. We all know that. The point is, people outside
the Amiga community (and maybe a few stupid Amigans) do NOT know that.
For them this news item says: Hey, Amiga pulls out of Europe's largest
market! This can't and won't be a good signal.

Petro has ALWAYS been saying that he wants an AmigaOS PPC. It is not his decision to stall the development of it: Bill McEwen owns the rights.
And about the price of the A4000... I am not going to reply to such a disrespectful comment about a person who is responsible for the Amiga as it is today.

This is sad reading. Thank you Petro Tyschtschenko for your years of
commitment and support. No matter how dark the Amiga's situation was,
you always managed to bring about some hope, as well as new buyers. If
it wasn't for you, the Amiga would not have survived to see the
revival which is happening these days. You did your job, and didn't
leave until the platform was in the hands of competent and dedicated
owners. Good luck with your retirement. I will remember you as the one
who got us through the dark years.

In reply to Comment 21 (Sharwin & Rakesh Raghoebardayal):
> Hello,
> Will you please stop writing crap like this if you dont know what you are talking about?
Oh, I know a little about what I'm talking about. Petro was used as one of Mick Tinker's excuses why the Boxer is taking so long. Mick didn't get the shipment of AGA chips he was promised, so he asked for the designs and permission to fab his own and was denied by the man in charge at the time--Petro.
> The BoXeR has never been delayed by Petro Tyschtschenko. Why dont you call him and tell him
> the same thing you wrote down here?
Why should I do that, it's past history now.
> Petro has ALWAYS been saying that he wants an AmigaOS PPC. It is not his decision to stall the
> development of it: Bill McEwen owns the rights.
Umm, well back in 1995/1996 when Phase5 was in the middle of the development of their ppc cards, they had a partnership with Amiga International (aka Petro & Co.) for development of ppc stuff for AmigaOS. Well, Petro and Co. bailed on Phase5, leaving them to do all the R&D themselves. Of course, some of these problems come from the different bankruptcies, but a lot of it has to do with a hard headed german dude in charge of Amiga Int.
> And about the price of the A4000... I am not going to reply to such a disrespectful comment about a
> person who is responsible for the Amiga as it is today.
Oh yeah, nothing to say about it? The Quikpak A4000's were being sold at an artificially high price. Now if Petro let Mick or somebody else find a chip fab that could build those chips, and convert the AGA chips to use a different technology, then the price of the A4000's wouldn't have been so unreasonable. What should have been done is Petro should have licensed more people to build systems around the A4000 design, once the chipset sourcing issues worked themselves out.
> Dont blame Petro for anything going wrong.
Some things he couldn't avoid, and those things had a lot to do with the bankruptcies. But licensing technology to interested parties instead of holding your grimy little fingers on it like he did would have made things a little better for us now.
> Thanks to him AMIGA is still alive, we had World of Amiga shows, we have OS3.5 etc. etc.
Well, that's one thing he did well, was keep Amiga viable during those bankruptcies. But what came of it? Classic Amiga market is almost completely dead for many reasons, one which I think is the chipset thing.
> Blame yourself for writing such terrible nonsense.
Actually, I'll go on to blame those friggen game/program coders who hit the hardware instead of following the rules. I'm blaming commodore for not putting mem protection in the os, and not putting rtg/rta in the os. I know there was not much Petro could have done for any of those things, but he did have control over the chipset issue with Mick, he did take part in the Phase5 ppc thing, ... I do wish him a good retirement away from Amiga, but I'm not sad to see him go.

So, Petro is leaving...
I see so many people who have their "issues" with the man. I have had my disagreements with some of the things he's said, in the past, and some of his methods. Having said that, let's not lose sight of one inescapable fact:
In the darkest days of the Amiga, it was Petro who kept a light burning in the dark. Somehow, he kept SOMETHING going. You gotta give him credit: In his own(sometimes unfathomable) Teutonic Businessman way, he kept something of the Amiga just far enough above water for it to breathe and survive. He kept lines open to user groups enough to keep the bleeding of users from turning into a full-on femoral artery dump. He kept product out there. He kept some products in some sort of development. He done pretty damn good, considering.
The guy was like one of those punching bags things: knock it down, it pops right back up. He didn't know how to quit. In his own way, he was indomitable.
So, say what you will. Say what you feel you must. One things you can say about the "Amiga Community" is that there is no shortage of opinions and some of them will certainly help you grow a fine garden, but it appears that the Amiga is on a healthy track back. That is in no small part due to the efforts of Petro, and for that, he deserves every Amigan's thanks and respect.
You gotta admit, the guy has balls. Big ones. Any bigger and they would qualify for National Monument status.

Just to add my voice to the chorus: Petro kept things going when everyone else was trying to bury it. In the history of our beloved platform, the corporate Hall of Shame (Tramiel, Gould, Ali, and all their evil minions) is a lot bigger than the Hall of Fame, where Petro T. belongs. Sure, he did some things wrong, but that's true of every executive who ever lived. I wish him every happiness in his retirement.
BTW, I'm also sick and tired of the BoXer excuses. Tinker may be a genius, but he's dragged this thing on for far too long. If the difficulties were insurmountable, he should've said so and moved on. RSN and prototype boards gave the wrong impression to a lot of people; for others, he now has as much credibility as iWin. Personally, I hope he produces something, just so we don't have to hear the excuses anymore.

Nawww... all the Dukes sucked... now their car is another matter :) By the way, as an American some of us do live in the country and some of us are 'hicks' but we are civilized ones. Since I only recently gained access to the internet (like 2 years ago) my knowledge of anybodies work pertaining to the Amiga community is small but in my opinion Petro didn't get to be the man in charge without making some enemies about decisions. I rather think the fact the Amiga is still here to support him speaks for the the commitment and efforts he put forth. I can only hope that those who continue on with the project of rebuilding has the drive and determination to make him proud he was once a part the Amiga team.
Also I wish him every happiness in whatever he ventures he decides to delve into. I'd say after all the work he put into keeping a dieing system a viable possiblity he deserves our thanks and blessings.
