Alien Design write: "The negotiation for the production of the REPULSE sound card is finished. Individual Computers, the company that brought you products like Catweasel and X-Surf, will produce and distribute the REPULSE. To start the production this year Individual Computers wants to have as much as possible pre-orders." The price for the card is around 250 Euros.

Don`t wanna rain on the parade, but I just worked that out at UKP £150!
I`d kill for a decent 16bit soundcard for my Amiga, but not at that sort of money.
Seeing as the Xsurf is just an ISA network card and some other stuff to hook upto the zorro port, why can`t they do the same with a 16bit ISA soundblaster and retail for £80-90 like the Xsurf??
OK, I know ISA soundcards aren`t too hot compared to the nice PCI jobs around today, but they still gotta be better than the Paula chip can manage!!

Once again this is TOO LATE (TM). Now that Mediator and others see the
light of the day, who needs sound cards for 250EUR? Me not.
I really hope Elbox will release a Mediator developer kit anytime
soon, so that some bedroom coders can create more drivers for PCI
cards!

SoundBlaster LIVE cards, which are part of the AmigaDE ZICO spec, are only like $60 over here, so that's like £24 UK. The older soundblasters aren't worth it.
The Repulse makes me think of the PULSAR, a $2000+ audio production system, a kinda 'audio toaster'...
http://www.creamware.de/en/Products/Pulsar/default.asp
The Repulse might be nice if it contained a SHARC DSP like the Pulsar (which has six of them).
However, the 20/18bit system is a lot nicer than plain old 16bit I/O. The Repulse sound card has a S/P-DIF In/Output with 24 Bit @ 96 kHz output.
I just wonder what kind of software it comes with.

This is very probably capable to use also for professional work, or for those wanting quality, which can't really be told about the common (and almost all) PCI-soundcards!...

At its announcement Alien Design were speaking something about 120 EUR. Now Individual Computers
want 250 EUR :-(
No thank you, now I gonna wait for some PCI-shit.

I remember seeing something like that too. I also remember seeing some text to the effect of the soundcard being a low cost solution, with no unneccessary fancy bits.
Seems like they couldn`t resist, and the feature list grew, and the price went up to match!
Shame really, I would have had one at 120 Euro`s(maybe even a bit more).
Why can`t amiga companies join forces to make low cost solutions instead of all this bandwagon jumping that goes on (eg..all the different zorro backplanes for 1200`s a year or so back, and now with all these different PCI backplanes!)
Come on, where`s the USB ports, IRDA adapters etc that should cost pennies to produce.

I have an 040 accelerated A1200 and towerized Video Toaster flyer.
For five years I operated a professional recording studio with Amiga
and Wintel computers along with digital tape gear. I know of no pro-
fessional Amiga soundcard. The current standard is 24bits not 16bits.
Mac and Wintel cards have multiple (between 4 and 24) balanced and
imbalanced analog and digital ins. The current digital standards are
S/Pdif (Sony Phillips Digital interface) Co-Axial and fibre-optic stereo,
AES/EBU on balanced XLR (mike) cables, Adat (8 Channel digital on fibre-
optic output) or TDIF (8 Channel Tascam format).Pro and semi-pro cards
generally have remote breakout boxes with input and output jacks.
The best hope for Amiga is VP software for the DE amiverse that accesses
wintel or mac cards or alternately PCI drivers and software for the new
PCI tower conversions. There hasn't been even a semi-pro Amiga card
available in the U.S. since sunrise 16 BIT.The Amiga has been great in
graphics and video but weak in sound since 8bit became obsolete.
