Sounds interesting.....even though it doesn't qualify as an AmigaONE:-)
A question is what browser is the simplebox shipped with? I ask because Meternet on their website says " The Simplebox wb8616JID is value packed device with a robust v4. browser "
Gary Peake (from Amiga Inc) on the other hand have just recently (one or two days ago i think) asked people on the AmigaOpen mailinglist what they would need (in terms of support) to port a browser to AmigaDE.
So do we allready have a browser or is it only usable on the Simplebox (is it Espial)??
What I would like to see on the AmigaDE is Opera v4.0, but they might not be that interested after the failure of the team who tried to port it to OS3.x.

Because of that failure, we must learn from history, a non Amiga browser is not coming (exept lynx) - so our best bet would be IBrowse or Voyager. IBrowse's Stefan Bürstroem is a likable chap, who, if he'd only get _some_ free time, could set up an Open Source model where an AmigaDE port would be possible.
IBrowse is arguably _better_ than Opera! Even Mozilla/Opera users agree on that. It just lacks some features that an available Plugin-documentation could meet. But Stefan has no time right now. Why don't we help him ;o))
m0ns.
Anyhow - Meternet - it is not an Amiga in our sence (I am generalizing, I know), but it is an opportuinty for Amiga Inc. to enter other markets. Ace strategy ;o))

Sorry,
<p>
A non-Amiga browser _will_ eventually come along, but what I mean is that the developers of IBrowse and Voyager, and perhaps AWeb, is already initiated in Amiga. Therefore, let's focus there - and hopefully, any AmigaDE development of these browsers will have a positive effect on the Amiga Classic platform.
<p>
Anyhow. Ace strategy Amiga ;o)

Personally I believe it doesn't matter what type of browser it is, as long as it supports the latest HTML tags and yes, even the ones Microsoft has created, 'cause one can't deny that Internet Explorer is the most used browser in the world...well, at the moment that is...lol...
It's irrelevant WHO created those HTML tags, as long as they are functional and use the best from both sides I would say :)...

http://meternet.com/ECR/4_m.htm has more details of the specs. Scroll
down to the bottom to see the boxes using AmigaDE. It also shows that
Espial Escape is the browser being used.

In reply to Comment 4 (Kojak):
I've tried several none-Amiga browsers including various NetScape versions, Opera and Internet Explorer and still have to agree with m0ns00n that the Amiga browsers still are better. Myself I prefer IBrowse! IBrowse and Voyager could be a nice platform to develop new browsers for Amiga DE.

Anyway, it's good that something Amiga-related gets to Comdex. (Just I hope next time will go there something more closely related.)

I checked the Amiga web site and they still state that the Espial Escape web
browser is set for the AmigaDE, so I'm guessing this MeterNet box will ship
with that. Check it here: http://www.espial.com/main/page?view=p-escp_main

I'd prefer to use Netscape on the new Amiga.
This way we can use a good browser and it helps
Netscape with coming back abit.
To baldly go wher nOMAAM has gone before.

Well I didn't see that page, thanks for telling me.... so Espial might be usefull it seems it supports most of the stuff needed.
Offcourse I would love to see versions of Aweb, Ibrowse and Voyager for the new AmigaDE but I know it's hard for these people to find the time to port it (but maybe...).
Also I think that there has to be a browser (fully functional not crippled) included when you buy the DE, I think people will expect that.

A Gecko port would be nice (the NS6 rendering engine).
Anyhow, it's always good to have a choice, and if its
between all of those named here it would not be Amiga's
woe ;-)
In any case, it is the _first_ device powered by AmigaDE!
As for it is a STB, the OS has to prove stability and
reliability, which will give a hint what to expect from
an AmigaDE desktop system, quite promising, IMHO.
I'm also waiting for Infomedia (and others?) to get ready.
Also it is one of the first devices with NS's Geode GX1.
Maybe this can generate a more widely interest amongst
the industry for a technological alliance with Amiga Inc.
(only a guess).
We'll see what happens.

Of course, what one might wonder (...and no, I didn't do the research,
please forgive my lazyness..) is whether there is actually enough Amiga DE
finished to show off, or is this perhaps a completely JAVA based
jobbie at this stage?
