From the GoldEd homepage: "GoldED Studio 7 is scheduled for release in December 2000. Major new feature will be the transition from a Rexx-centric application to Distributed BASIC, a new portable BASIC interpreter specifically developed for use inside applications. While beeing compatible with Rexx on the communication level, Distributed BASIC will make customization less difficult for the majority of users. Distributed BASIC will also be available as a stand-alone package to other developers."

GoldED Studio 7 Preview : Comment 2 of 2 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Graham on 14-Nov-2000 23:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 1 (Keith Brown): Probably because of all those Amiga users who still can't program Arexx scripts?
I know it sounds a bit strange to create this version of BASIC, however unlike BASIC it probably is, at this late stage in the Amigas life. Maybe it is to allow people to easily upgrade to an AmigaDE version of GoldEd studio when that comes out - i.e., create an easy to use program that is compatible with Arexx for classic Amigas, and also works with the new IPC mechanism for the AmigaDE machines without having to change any BASIC scripts?
Also it might be a good thing to have for the AmigaDE, if it is anything like VisualBASIC, as that means a low migration cost for developers who use VisualBASIC. However, I doubt it is anything like VisualBASIC, so it is a moot point. |
