Espial today announced the availability of Espial TotalIA, an integrated Internet appliance reference platform that is based on x86-Linux and Tao's intent platform and which includes a completely integrated hardware and software stack that will significantly reduce time-to-market and minimize get-to-market risks for smart device manufacturers. The full press release is here.

Is this the promised Internet application promised by Amiga
that was to come from Espial?
I don't think the press release mentions Amiga at all. No?

In reply to Comment 1 (ACGregory):
Espial makes a pretty robust web browser already. If you have Java, download it and take a look... I was impressed by it. Also, if you have some time, check out their "Architech" software.

In reply to Comment 2 (the man in the shadows):
On Amiga.com's "Applications in development" page, they list Espial's
Escape as being developed for AmigaDE...

My thinking is this. Has Amiga ever said that their deal with Tao is exclusive?
What is preventing Tao from working with IBM, Microsoft, or Apple? Maybe I'm
being really stupid, but if Tao starts picking up steam, what's preventing Tao
from joining up with a bigger company with a truck load of money to spend? I
really doubt that they will only work with Amiga. What they are offering to
Amiga will also be available in some form to other companies?
What do you think?

well if *any* company can use toa technology. What is to stop microsoft?
then I'm afraid amiga doesn't have a chance. Microsoft has more money and power. If they can use tao technology(which they may discover soon when amiga comes out in force) and some sort of emulator for the previous OS of windows, microsoft will rule the world.
period.

The great write-once run-everywhere fantastic nature of the new Amiga is entirely Tao's work... and yes, any company can (and does) license that from them.
So far there is nothing we have seen from Amiga themselves to indicate anything but 'just another OS'. If I were investing, I'd put my money in Tao, they're the clever ones behind all this, Amiga are just trying to cash in on the work that Tao have already done.
Nonetheless, I hope they succeed.

In reply to Comment 9 (David Shipman):
Well, that might be a little harsh. Remember that it was Tao who were intrumental
funding for the Amino purchase of Amiga from Gateway. This wasn't done for charity
so apparently Tao sees something valuable in Amiga. That said, Tao does have
stand-alone products that it'll push as best it can. What Amiga adds is still
in development; with the APIs still in flux, obviously we're not going to see
any Amiga contribution to a shipping product real soon. But Tao obviously thought
Amiga could get them into new markets, so we'll see what comes of it.

In reply to Comment 10 (gary_c):
Tao were instrumental in arranging funding for the purchase,
not in providing the funding itself, to clarify, AFAIK.
