Henrik Mikael Kristensen writes: The Amiga One forum at www.amiga.com is closing on 1st december due to an unacceptable amount of spam and obscene messages submitted to the forum lately. Whether a new and more secure forum will open is unknown. The webmaster refers to the spam-free forum at amiga.org, where it is possible to discuss in a more civilized manner.

I've suggested to use vBulletin (www.vbulletin.com), it's a PHP3/MySQL Bulletin Board and much faster than UBB, but apparently the webmaster wasn't interested...

What a disappointment. Further prooof that however well meaning most of us are, there are some idiots out there who badly need to grow up.

Hmm, just some other site should be created where these idiots can meet and tell their bullshit, instead of infecting other better sites...

Annother TeamAmiga news list!
An absolutly brilliant idea - have experts including Dave Haynie write articles and answer questions on a low volume mailing list which would also give news.
Something precious, of great value to the community, wrecked by morons, idiots and compulsive obssessives.

It was a GREAT resource at first and it was my top Amiga site to visit for awhile. I noticed that it was completely ruined by a few regulars who felt it necessary to post garbage time and time again. It was fun while it lasted. It was so great to get info from someone from Amiga who was only known as ".." who used to answer every question. I noticed even he gave up writing anything on the board...

Yup, it's all SlimShady's fault. I remember him back on irc....outta control.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk. Wonder how he'll be welcome in other forums and irc
channels, now that world knows his terrible troubles? heheheheh.

Maybe I'm in denial but I'm still not convinced that the board *is* closing.
As I said in a recent posting to the Amiga One forum, it would surely have made much more sense for the webmaster to post an official notice on the Amiga Inc. site itself as opposed to the forum. Given the fact that there's been so much messing about on the board he must have realised the inherent problem with posting a message telling us that the forum is closing, namely that we really don't know who's who.
But as yet there's been nothing.

Keen thinking.. I have received no word to shut down the message board, although I am beginning to think this (mine too) community is mobbed by idiots.

In reply to Comment 10 (Ted Wallingford):
I was beginning to think the same but I really think that the majority of visitors to the forum are geunine and that it's only a handful of morons who feel the need to spoil it for everybody else.

In reply to Comment 11 (James Whelan):
I agree. I think it is only a reletively few troublemakers,
some of whome seem to get around to several places.
I would say that they act like they are only about two years
old, but two-year-olds aren't that selfish and moronic, I know
as I have three kids. :)
I wouldn't even be surprised if some of them aren't even
actually Amiga users, and i KNOW they aren't Amigans.
We had trouble with spammers at another forum a while back
who were actually stuck on another platform (which I shall not
name) and who just thought it was cool to mess up our discussions.

Actually, you should consider yourself one of the spammers.
I've never been on IRC. I am however an old time Amigan who remembers
more about the Amiga than you;ll probably ever know. The fact is, too many people wanna believe all this bs being fed them from Amiga.
Please point out where I have 'spammed', versus the typical Amigan such as Cpt. Future.......
Save it bucko, Amiga is pretty sad if it can't institute a simple forum for its premier product.
So much for revolutionizing the world, eh?

In reply to Comment 13 (slimshady):
I don't think there was anything wrong with having an unmoderated forum.
Amiga assumed that the remaining Amiga users were a mature bunch who would use the board for genuine discussion, intelligent discussions and questions as opposed to childish name calling, posting garbage under other people's names and obscene comments. Sadly for them, but even more sadly for us, they were wrong.

Who comes up with this stuff. First we are being purcahsed by Microsoft, and now we are closing our AmigaOne forums.
If I have said it once I have said it a thousand times.
If we do not say it, it is not true.
We are NOT closing the forums.
Although we could if we wanted to :-).

Bill McEwen
