HOOOO! ;o)))
They got it right with 1x1 windowborders! At last!
I'm looking forward to getting this piece of software in the mail ;o) I have already preordered it! This has to get even those who haven't upgraded to os3.5 yet. This is too much for a user to deny ;o) And it costs less than a cd-based gfx-collection or a simple game on PC ;o)
I'm wheappyj!

Its good they release but they just want to make money. It is just the bundling of free software to the OS. They could of at least get the Genisis GUI converted but no they have half in RA half in MUI. They are using DefIcons but I thought they could use Datatypes for filetype recognition. They have also stuffed in the AROS text datatype, colorwheel and grad slider gadget. They could of put a cd file system which supports DVD. And more....

Yep, I like it too.... Looks much better than the bog standard WB3.0 that I've been using for the past six years. Now that I have got some 3.1 ROMs on the way and a GFX card then I can look forward to ordering OS3.9 sometime soon.
However, I seem to remember that when OS3.5 was released everyone asked about whether 3.5ROMs would be available too. Amiga (under Gateway) responded by stating that it depended on sales of OS3.5, but any follow up was likely to offer new ROMs as well. It seems strange that there is an OS3.9 but no ROMs as promised, BUT I can imagine that the tooling and manufacturing costs for new ROM chips would be excessive, considering the actual cost of buying the software (how about comparing this with Windows ME???), and that development has been taken over by H & P.
With the prospect of an OS4.0 for the Classic Amiga at sometime soon then how about some new ROM releases, if only to fix some of the main criticisms of the current operating system - the awful standard GUI, the lack of a decent Task Manager and numerous SMALL things (when compared to an MS release). How about Amiga putting out a request for a wish list?

In reply to Comment 2 (Jim Ross):
The DefIcons implementation is from Stephan Rupprecht as well are the colorwheel.gadget and gradientslider.gadget. A lot of tools that has been added are from Stephan Rupprecht like RAWBInfo and ASLPrefs.
You might want to go to http://stephan-rupprecht.de to check out what he has done. And I must say, many programs of him deserve to be in the OS. Good work, Stephan.

Looks good. Mine is already pre-ordered. Looking forward to installing it.
I do have a couple of questions: Did the outlined font problem get fixed?
I already have Asim CDFS, Zip/Jaz Tools by Oregon Research, and Miami, among others,
that seem to now have replacements included. Will I still be able to use my current
software if I prefer? I'd like to have that option.
I am not put off by the notion that the new OS now contains some programs that have
been available as "freeware". It seems to me that if everybody was using the same
freeware/software/utilities then further development and de-bugging would come about
much easier.
Not saying I'm right....just my $00.02 worth.

It'll be nice for the less "geeky" Amigans (myself included) to have this "free"
stuff bundled. I've always been a little put off by how complicated it is get
stuff unarchived and installed on my Amigas. This upgrade, for me at least, will
be a very welcome improvement. I to purchased Squirrel Zip/Jazz Tools, but I've
got a PAR card running on an old A2000 I bought real cheap, and I probably
won't risk installing 3.9 on this particular machine (it'll go on my 1200, however).

Odd ... this page looks like a refugee from www.amiga.de
with the "--- heading" text and all.

It looks good, seems more polished than 3.5.
I've pre-ordered it to, hopfully it will arrive soon after the release!

Yep I think its looking quite good. Id liked to have seen more
improvements on the GUI side of things, include birdie and visual
prefs into a common guiprefs system and provide better default
graphics. The mix of different styles is horrible the old WB3 +
reaction, the different skins for the movie and cd players dont even
match + they talk of installing MUI for the use of the Genesis prefs.
Anyway I have preordered from Blittersoft. Any ideas when to expect
it? Amiga say release is on the 4th and H&P say its on the 9th!
Pt.

In reply to Comment 5 (Len Carsner):
You can go on using your AsimCDFS etc just like now. I use Asim and MiamiDx with 3.5, and there`s nothing in 3.9 to stop this.

In reply to Comment 2 (Jim Ross):
I found the reason for this but so as not to step on any toes or misquote the reason why it is half-n-half, Chris Aldi or H&P should make a comment on this. I would go into details on this but one wrong word might be bad for either party...

All I can say, is that OS 3.5's stability and tolerance for poorly-programmed software were very weak; I can only pray that 3.9 is better. WB 3.1 in general, handled games and demos better, but didn't like my 8.4 GB HD too much. I will be ordering 3.9 regardless. Let us hope for a more compatible OS with 3.9
