Craig Hutchinson was the first to note that the latest executive update from Bill McEwen is now online. They've also now officially opened the Amiga Mall.

They still haven't learned to reduce the price of their SDK. Oh well - so much for lessoned learned.
Oh wait thats the lesson.

What do you think a fair price is then? If you ask me, I think $100 is fair enough. I'm not sure they would sell a lot more if the price would drop $20 or so. It'd have to drop $70 or so to make a big difference.

In reply to Comment 2 (Brian H):
Evidently he thinks the only fair price is free, so that everyone in the world can use them as coasters as we now do with AOL cd's. I think the fact that they sell as well as they do proves that the current price is totally fair and reasonable.

You wouldn't be a supporter of COSA by any chance? :)

In reply to Comment 1 (Michael Jantzen):
Considering how cheap the SDK is, I'm shocked that there are not more developers out there going GA GA over it. I've seen some SDKs that cost over $800 for the developement tools needed and then an additional $100 just for the support. Personally, I wouldn't like it if the SDK was lower than $90 for one major reason... we wouldn't have very serious developers at that point.
Proud owner of both Linux and Windows versions of the SDK.

Those are very kind words by Bill. I only wish there will be enough money to make the Amiga One a succes (=marketing *hint* *hint*..lol). Merry Cristmas to the whole Amiga team :)...

Considering the desperate need by competing platform's for developer's, free is probably the only
way this could of succeeded in the marketplace, no "serious" developer's are using this SDK
to develop software anyway. I believe what they were hoping to attract by using the Amiga name
were mostly hobbyists anyway, who might of moved on to other platforms, it's to Amiga's advantage
to get this into the largest audience possible, and to compete equally with other OS looking for
the same developer base (Be, Linux, QNX, MorphOS) just to name a few.

It's refreshing to know that you know every "serious" computer programmer in the world personally and that they have contacted you to let you know that they don't use the SDK and have no intention of doing so. Wake up and smell the coffee :)

Yeah, they are probably using some software developers kit instead... DAMN THEM!!! Why can't they conform to the norm!!! Instead of using the software developers kit that they are currently using to develop software for the Amiga they should be using the SDK, period.
What has this world come to...

Interesting, that the plan to sell shares to the community did not happen.

Just had a browse through the store.
How's this for an offer:
bumper sticker: $1
Shipping to UK: 10c
Base shipping fee: $16.50
Total: $17.50
As Kevin said in Home Alone: "I don't think so"

In reply to Comment 12 (John Block):
Looks to me as if their shipping calculator is screwed up. It costs me 64c to mail a light letter from the US to the UK so the 10c can't be right... so hopefully the other $16 handling is wrong too. (I hope).

Hmm... didn't they told that they were no more interested in selling gadget or stuff like Petro did, but just computer related products? (and they refused an offer to make a portable MP3 player from an user, posted here on ann.lu time ago) Now they're selling stickers and t-shirts... mumble mumble... why don't they put on their products page the old Amiga mouse (the white one)? It's surely better than those t-shirts :)

T-shirts, they miss the simplest item from the Mall. I didn't see a
basic Amiga T-shirt. A more witty one (well in computing terms), like
those found at thinkgeek.com would be cool too :o)

Sorry, what? Do you mean to develop software for the DE on the AOS3.x with SAS/C (or the like)???

I dunno - a brand new environment, with brand new tools, and untested reliability. You'd think they'd take a chance and get as many developers as they could and give the thing away for free and charge for support.
I mean when windows came out the development information was free. Still is if you don't want the developer DVD/CD's and tech support.
The Linux development environment is still free - and Linux itself has got awards from journals like infoworld for free tech support. I'm in a company where we are working on a linux desktop to replace windows desktops because someone higher up decided we can save over 1000$ on licenses and hardware if we use Linux. Amiga DE isn't even on the radar, but we are developing desktop tools under linux at this very moment - its really fun and it works great.

A probelm is that there are so many cdroms around, it is hard to get people to open them.
Making them pay at least gets some form of commitment that the software will be looked at and tested

SDKsoftware developers kit
I'm just pointing out that theJUDGE knows about as much about the AmigaDE as the average linux user does.
average linux user quote "you mean I have to pay to develop for that... screw that."
I'm not saying that he is an average linux user, just acting like one. Reread comment #10 with a bit of humor to it and you will understand my meaning.

The SDK is cheap if you are paying in US dollars. $90 is certainly no biggie but for us poor Aussies the SDK is pushing $200 AUS which is where the casual hobbist says no way.
I'd be very interested at having a look at it but it just doesn't cut the mustard when I can purchase an academic copy of MS Visual C++ which is a solid dev platform for the same price. From what I have heard about the SDK it is not even in the same league. I guess I am never going to know however as I' m not going to pay $200 for ab unproven SDK. Most of my collegues at work think the same - we'd like to have a crack at the SDK but it's just too expensive to justify the purchase.
