Yeah, I got off of the 3.5 mailing list because of all of the griping.
We want this, we want that, where is BoingBag2, etc. I've been very
happy with 3.5 myself. Boing Bag 2 will be a bonus. Before upgrading
to 3.9 of course.

OS 3.5 is a dead end anyhow. The BoingBag for OS 3.9 will have ASyncWB in it which won't be available for OS 3.5. And this feature should also shut some people up about no new important things to OS 3.9.

AFAIR most of the libraries included in BB2 are the same as the ones
in OS 3.9.
So if you want to update to OS 3.9 without spending money get BB2 if
you can live without some commercial tools and if you already have
DOpus for a multitasking workbench.
BTW I guess they released BB2 because in a German newsgroup someone
posted an URL to a pirated beta of BB2...

Download Scalos or buy DOpus and you`ll see what an "AsynchWB" is: several
simultaneous operations (copy, move, delete etc) possible, unlike the vanilla
WB which was restricted to one operation at a time.

Yes, if I boot up with ToolsDaemon installed, and then launch AmiDock, then ToolsDaemon
ceases to work. But, then if i quit AmiDock, then ToolsDaemon works again so it's not fatal.
If ToolsDaemon and AmiDock are both started from WBStartup then ToolsDaemon won't work either.
Kinda weird, but no weirder that having to use MagicMenu to get ToolsDaemon to run
with 3.9 to begin with.

Ah, you mean like good-old Jazzbench did (for free) under OS1.3 - it was THE best workbench replacement EVER.
Behaved just like workbench (unlike crappy DOpus), and yet was truely multithreaded.
It was a BIG pain not ot have Jazzbench when I upgraded to OS2.1, that's for sure!

OK, it's true, MM does allow TD to work (as long as you invoke MM at least once
before TD), but this just means that H&P are spawny gits (this time at least) -
doesn't let them off the hook for breaking TD in the first place.

If you think buying AmigaOS3.9 is a good way to support Amiga Inc., you might
want to read my comment to the Bill McEwen topic above, or the upcoming article
at Amiga Aktuell International (http://www.aakt.de, by the end of January).
I think the commitment 50,000 x OS3.9 -> OS4.0 was one of the most stupid moves
I´ve ever seen any Amiga company doing.

Couldn't agree more...
We have to make sure to get developers and users to concentrate on using the SDK and offcourse the AmigaDE (when it arrives), everything else will split the (remaining) community once again.
Just how many people would actually buy the 0S4.0ppc?? My guess is that it will only be those with the slow outdated P5 PPC cards that can't run AmigaDE natively!
How big is that number? 8000?.
I guess owners of SharkPPC, AmigaONE and other ppc cards would prefer AmigaDE, which WILL have lots of features (and lesser hacks:) the classic OS haven't.
So if the Amiga should have a chance to succeed we will have to leave the classic behind and concentrate on AmigaDE as this also makes it possible for Amiga to get money from STB companies etc.

And your comment makes no sense-- Amiga is not losing money in development of 3.x-- H&P do that. In fact they are making money from it (which is why they have done it). 4.0 would be incorporated into the plans for the Amiga Classic + DE bridge. Yes, you should buy 3.9-- but not just for the support: for the features, the new prefs and the upcoming BB1.

Nope, they did it to keep the whining and bitching users content. The cash
influx isn´t big enough to make much difference for Amiga Inc. (citing McEwen
from Corinna Cohn´s interview at MooBunny).
> 4.0 would be incorporated into the plans for the Amiga Classic + DE bridge.
New features in the OS4.0 would be of no use for OS3.x software. If you want
to make use of the new features, your software had to be rewritten for OS4.0.
Software that is written for OS4.0 had to be rewritten again to run on AmigaDE.
A great way to waste time and money.
Chris Tsaldaris:

He. Ignorance. Do you think OS4.0 would have more in common with OS3.x
than AmigaDE? Think again. Both could run OS3.x software only in emulation
(this is not opinion, not rumor, but a *quote* from Fleecy Moss!), both
have to be rewritten from scratch to fix the old bugs and implement all
the features you are asking for from a new, modern OS.
Bottom line, technically there would be very little difference between OS4.0
and AmigaDE - both are new technology with a backward compatibility / emulator.
The fact that Amiga Inc. would have to develop *both* of them (splitting money
and manpower), and developers would have to rewrite their apps *twice* (OS3.x
-> OS4.0 -> AmigaDE) instead of once (OS3.x -> AmigaDE) make OS4.0 look like
a *very* bad idea.
To quote Chris again:
> i dont wand somithing that has the name
> of amiga but somethink that it is an amiga
Then OS3.9 is the last thing "Amiga" for you anyways. Both OS4.0 AND AmigaDE
will be new technology, with some ideas continued.
I for one couldn´t care less if it´s named "Amiga", "Intent", "shoobedoo"
or whatever, as long as it is powerful, easy to set up, use, and develop for,
readily available, stable and fun.

I personally like BB1, BB2. I'm downloading BB2a now. I'd love to have a PPC/WOS
version of the Classic AMIGA! H&P may be having some problems but I believe they
ARE trying where others from the past have failed. How about constructive words to
them rather than pissing and moaning?
Personally...I'm WITH Amiga and H&P. Is there another choice? I don't think SO!

Hi..
Its nice to see that Amiga still supports Os3.5..
But Os3.9 is worth the money..Its great..
Ive been having trouble with IBrowse before, but
after installing Os3.9 the problems are gone..
I dont know if its Os3.9 that does it..But the
programs i use and the config is the same that
before..
And IBrowse2.2 has a little "update"..To get
the mimes to work with Os3.9..And there is even
a IBrowse2.3 beta..
