Now that Google bought out Deja.com, you can now once again access comp.sys.amiga.misc or any of the other Usenet groups without (a) just seeing one message per page, (b) seeing any ads.

Ever heard of something called news-reader. It's a program, much like a
mail-client. And it's used to read newsgroups with.

You are kidding right? I hope you aren't that hard headed. Well you did post anonymous, you might be. Most people do use a NG client program. However like free web based email email sites, Deja and other services are convienant when you are not at home. If you are at a friends house, at a Internet Cafe whatever, as long as it is a computer with a Web Browser, you can read the news groups.
Hell with Deja you can read c.s.a.m with a C64 or C128 with "The Wave" web browser. Neat.

Yeah Bill, I agree with you. Deja was usefull, I'm disapointed to see it in it's current state. I'd use it on my lunch break at work, relatives house etc. Places where it is out of the question to install a program. Just launch the browser. I think the same thing happened to Remarq. I was signed up for that service to, and went there one day and was unable to figure out a damn thing. My paitence got short and I gave up. Oh well, that's what you get for free I guess.
Regards,
Jim

It's also kinda hard to store/search a few terabytes on your little hard disk!
(clogs it up real good)
After clicking around I found this Google page that
lists other free web based newsreaders...
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Usenet/Web_Based/
InterBulletin wasn't tooooo bad...

If you're a leech and not a participant, then the change was a
cosmetic non-event. If you're in it to ask questions and give
suggestions, then the Google take-over is a step back to the dark ages
before Usenet.
If you can't post, what is the point of Usenet?

Um, hello, hasn't anyone bothered to read the notice at Google? The
usenet search was just a quick hack (the word "beta" is there, see?),
and according to the notice, they are working on implementing features
similar to what Deja had, with proper browsing and posting. So just
chill out for a while.

I have another variation on this theme - my ISP has stopped providing direct access to the news groups some time ago (its cheap, $9.95/mo US unlimited access) and directed us to Daja.
I used to used Agent - a great program. So I’m looking to go DSL or Cable with
newsgroup access! I will be interested to check out Web Based News readers mentioned above, however!

I saw the notice about the beta version. Problem is what Google put up in place of the Deja Usenet service is not a beta version of anything. It is a simple keyword search engine. Besides, the note to "loyal" Deja users was not posted immediately - it appeared about a day or so later.
Google should of left the Deja usenet service running until the Google version was tested and ready for public use. Their reasons for dumping the Deja version are weak. This is not the right way to convert loyal Deja users into loyal Google users.

The funny thing about http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Usenet/Web_Based/ is that it lists Deja.com Discussions first. Idiots.

Well, no, you can read discussions by thread, and read particular newsgroups
(like comp.sys.amiga.misc). Actually in some ways it's better than Deja right now, since it's about a zillion times faster and not just one message per page (which would have been fine if it hadn't been so slow).
