[News] Should DRaid be ported to some other OS?ANN.lu

Mark notices that there's a poll question on whether DRaid should be ported to some other OS, complains that they don't list Amiga and says you can vote for "other" and specify you would like an Amiga port. What do you think? Is it worthwhile posting news items like this one? Do you think the Amiga (be it classic or next-generation) stands a chance to be considered for a port? Do you think the author of the application would benefit enough from it to even warrant the investment of time and effort, not to mention possible costs?

All factors being considered, an AmigaDE server would be top notch! I'd like to see a good redundant array available for the Amiga to make it a viable option in the server market. A RAID system is the second highest request for servers that I'm aware of.

Hey CK, to answer your question. YES I think this is proper for an Amiga news site.
Amigans need to be vocal, and maybe we can have more class-A software.

I think theres no harm in showing an interest CK, after all they DID ask for opinions, thus the poll, how can justifying the BeOS market be any less than justifying an Amiga port? And especially if its an AmigaDE port....well then they neednt port it to Win/mac/linux/etc....they only need an AmigaDE ver. Write once run anywhere ;)

Nothing else available. We really need the ability to include redundancy in
our systems. The need is growing as more and more people add HDs to what were
floppy only systems. This would really be an boon to the Toaster people too.

Keep it unmoderated. Though if we Amigans win a poll like that and the developers say they are going to make an Amiga port, then I would like to see it. And finally for those that still thinks DRaid has anything to do with RAID I must say:
IT'S A 3D FLYING GAME. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HARD DRIVES!!!!!!!!!!

To be blunt, I don´t think the "Classic" Amiga is a viable platform for ports anymore. The market for sales is close to zero; there simply is no reason why a company that´s interested in profit should consider an Amiga port - or, at least, not after they already did Windows, Linux x86, Mac, Linux PPC and probably some others.
The AmigaDE simply isn´t available yet. So, I think it doesn´t make much sense for Amiga users to "bloat" online polls. It will not make a product become reality - the marketing people know that thousands might vote for it, but only a fraction will pay for it. (Take FusionPPC as infamous exsample.)
Until the AmigaDE is available, "winning" polls will only help making us Amigians look yet more pathetic.
Sorry, but that´s my honest opinion.

The game looks like it will probably suck.
You would be better off with a Spectrum emulator and a copy of Elite.
Well that is just my "opinion" anyway. ;)
What a dumbass, complains about his high site traffic, but just look at how much sh!t is loading on each page. DOH!

erm, has anyone else noticed that the source code to the game is available on the site?
if anyone actually cares, you can port it yourself, or at least find some amiga coders to do so... i don't really see the benefit in voting on a poll when the outcome would be the same as things are right now... "Oh, Amiga, yes.. well, you find someone to do it and we'll let them..."

In reply to Comment 9 (Martin Baute):
To be Blunt, I believe the Classic AMIGA IS viable for Ports still, especially if you have a 060/PPC! ;) Many people do.

Heh heh, it reminds me of 3rd Moon for some reason. I just wish 3rd Moon had had a larger display. This game, DRaid, looks good, though.

Yes, those people who _own_ the 060/PPC. (Up until 18 months ago, I
was among them.)
But, is it viable for someone doing profit calculations? I doubt that.
