This posting on BeOSCentral might be interesting, even if it's already 3 weeks old: The Tao-Group's implementation of the Java Virtual Machine is small, fast, and robust. Sounds like a perfect fit for BeOS. In a response to an email that I sent them, they mentioned that they would be willing to provide the necessary information for a port to BeOS. Amiga and QNX are already on board, why not BeOS?

No BeOS or QNX stuff here. Its an AMIGA place, lets keep it that way.

it seems like everyone is jumping in.
so let me ask this. why should I buy Amiga.DE?
I assume windows/apple/beos/qnx will have this feature in the near future, inevitably.
so what makes Amiga.DE unique?

As JVM will be part of AmigaDE, then all news about JVM are of interest for all Amigans too.
I think this news that BeOS will join the train, shows how good the JVM from Tao is.

Why not ask for information on porting to Amiga Classic?

Yeah...why not the classic AmigaOS.

I have been reading that adding Zorro capability to the AmigaOne
is going to present serious technical problems, if it can even
be done at all.
I was wondering if it would be possible to design a Zorro
addon instead of trying to incorporate this into the motherboard?
The AmigaOne will have PCI slots, USB, maybe Firewire?
If this were possible, it seems to me it would be easier to
design a stand alone Zorro case with slots in it that could
interface with the Amiga via PCI, USB or Firewire.
I don't see why something like this couldn't be done. It would
certainly be easier to design and cost alot less than trying to
make the AmigaOne motherboard itself Zorro compatible. I would
certianly think that if they could design the AmigaOne, something
like this should be very easy to do.
There are two things right off the top of my head that have no
equal in the PC world. The Video Toaster and the Sunrize AD516
16bit digital audio cards with the Studio 16 software.
A great number of Amiga users own and use both of these both
professionally and as a hobby. These people are going to want
an AmigaOne for the speed, but these two pieces of hardware
cannot be replaced by anything made for an IBM Clone. :/
I'm not a Toaster user, but I record with the Sunrize AAD516's.
I can assure you that they do not have the latency issues
that even the fastest PC's with the latest and greatest soundcards
have. Never have never will!
Anyway...just a thought off the top of my head! :)
regards,

Whoops. Be is evaluating if they could use the Tao _Java_ implementation!
What Amiga is doing is an OS based on Tao´s _VP_. That´s a different ball
game.
The Tao JVM would provide Be with a fast, small footprint Java VM.
The AmigaDE would provide you with a hardware independant OS that supports
write-once, run-anywhere no matter what the programming language.

What a valuable and wise comment of 'the-real-amiga-user'{tm}...
Everything non directly marked 'Amiga Inside' will be destroyed...
And no matter you don't get the point of the announce which 'is' amiga
related good news... Start thinking... Should not hurt you that much.

OK, I was at the alt-woa show on 24th Feb - according to the slides, it will have PCI slots and USB ports available. I did not see any mention of firewire, but unfortunately I was at the back of the room, and the PA equipment was broken, and could only catch small amounts of the talk about the AmigaOne.
The "classic" amiga support was via a "west gate" chip, in addition to the regular "north gate" chip you find in most motherboards - I could not see from where I was if Zorro slot support would be included.
Isn`t Fleecy a "little geezer" - nice leather jacket though ;-)

If BeOS could run AmigaNG I would be happy, I love the hell outta Be, infact it is the closest thing I have to an Amiga now a days aside of my 1200, I am all up for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like it´s getting popular reading into news whatever you want...
Be has no (apparent) intention of running AmigaNG. They are evaluating Tao´s implementation of Java. (As I said before.) That´s like, evaluating Miami as TCP/IP stack. That wouldn´t mean BeOS running AmigaClassic either, would it?
