At the moment X-Arc is not being developed anymore. Pheraps I'll find some spare time to finish some features I introduced in the latest beta and release a serious stable version. Or pheraps I'll open the sources to the world, so you all may laugh a lot (I'm not really a tidy-professional developer... it's all mess.... with strange and funny variable names...) and then, if someone is interested, go on in the development of the program.

Not much point really is there?
I find the unarchiver tool included in OS3.9 is excellent.
- And it works without crashing my system. :)

its good but it add`s underscores to file names which breaks alot of things and i dont think it can unzip a password protected zip file.
also running about 3 or 4 of them unarching at the same time sometimes crashes my system :(

From what I remember, in its last incarnation, X-arc wasnt too stable either... I just thought it was quite a nice program to use though (it had/has an excellent GUI).
Just thought maybe somebody would be interested in takin on and improving the code.

yep i thought it was nice to use aswell and i have the 1.3 version from NC2.
my version crashes when i drop a password protected zip file onto it though.

It doesn't actually state anywhere that he won't be developing it any more. It actually states that he isn't working on it at the ****moment**** and might produce an update in the future.

suddenly stopped developing X-Arc... last update was nearly a year ago!
If you actually read the post, you'll see that the author actually isn't planning on making time to develop it... and as you say he MIGHT (and therefore might not) produce an update, which in my opinion does not sound hopeful.
Besides which, if he was planning to update it shortly then why would he want to open source it anyway?
IMHO X-arc is dead unless somebody takes up the code.

I seldomly use X-Arc (I have the version that came with NetConnect2), mainly
because I use the Dopus5 ArchnadlerEX.
Inspite of that I would be glad to see X-Arc being enhanced.
X-Arc is sort of an archive editor. Editors are available for
text, vectors, bitmaps, sounds, music, why not one for archives as well ?!
X-Arc has a very nice GUI and sometimes it is the best for 'handcrafting'
complex archives.
One of the main concerns I have with X-Arc is the poor support for archivers.
Lha,LZX and ZIP. No more.
If someone would overtake development I am sure we could have tar/targz,sit and
maybe even more added. That would be nice. And the Amiga would have an utility
that still is missing. Voodoo-X can only dearc. The OS3.9 stuff is of no interest
for 3.1 users and still. X-Arc is much nicer.

Hi all...
2 quick things:
1) a beta of X-Arc 1.4 is on www.x-arc.com . I uploaded it long time ago, for registered only users
2) I'd love to develop a bit more X-Arc... It's not 100% dead.. it's just I don't have time :(
3) modules for other archive formats could be written from other ppl. I've the SDK for writing those modules, and there's no need to touch X-Arc sources to add archive modules.
