Here are some pictures of the G-REX 4000. It replaces the Z3 daughter board and gives 4 PCI slots in line with 4 Z3 slots + the video slot.

I take it that this design does not need to have an outdated PPC card attached for it to work?

Mr. Dellert of DCE just posted in the german Amiga Club discussion forum that there
will be a standalone version of the GRex4000 replacing the daughterboard without the
need for a CSPPC or Mk-III. I'd guess you would then have a speed penalty though for
having to go through the Zorro-Bus (at least for as long as the G4-card for the GRex
will become reality - or any other PCI PPC-card that is capable to run in more than
the vendors own design PCI solution ;-)

Are the A4k G-Rex PCI slots fully functional or are they crippled like the A1200 G-Rex slots?

Look at the first picture. There is a small card attached to the
the CVPPC connector AND connected to the backside of the zorro3/pci backplane.

We do have NO idea if they are crippled of not... I wouldn't trust a
comptetitor to give correct data about another product.
I gonna pick out my multimeter to check if the pins they say are
connected or not.
What I am afraid of is that Ralph was right. And I knew he was right.
With the new driver you can't use ppc programs with direct memory
