There's a reference made that the target market for the DE seems to be low-end, which seems to make little sense; after all, the DE is still going to run *hosted,* meaning I might at least be able to buy one copy of a game for my console and my Windows/BSD/Linux boxen, no?
...kinda odd that someone from Hyperion would miss the point, unless the timetable for multimedia in the DE has been *really* pushed back...

In reply to Comment 1 (Joe "Floid" Kanowitz):
If the DE runs hosted on AmigaOS 4, there is no point in making a game that requires 64 megs targeted at the DE just because it's there. If I target OS4 I am much better off. The game wouldn't run on a PDA anyway since they usually don't have that much money...
This hasn't got anything to do with timetables or multimedia. It has something to do with intended target markets. We don't target Windows.

^^^^^
I guess you mean "memory" ;)

In addition, AmigaOS4.x will feature Virtual Memory which looks like a key feature to everyone who plans to write/port high-end 3D games and/or applications.
As far as I know, AmigaDE does *not* support VMEM as its target markets are PDAs, STBs, etc.

Ehm... I really wouldn't want a 3d game to use VM! If the textures kept getting
swapped to disk you would get 0.1 fps. :-)

In reply to Comment 5 (Johan Forsberg):
Most modern 3D games use VMEM on the PC and those games certainly don't run at 0.1fps!
I guess it's just easier to use VMEM instead of having to write custom streaming routines that keep loading certain parts of a huge 3D level into RAM.
In any case, VMEM is a KEY FEATURE and much more useful than some of you might think...
I'm not saying that many applications and/or games couldn't be written without relying on VMEM, however, as most PC titles are using it, porting software to the AmigaOS would be much more difficult than it would be otherwise.
