From the Promotheus mailing list: Hello, Prometheus PCI bridge for Zorro III Amiga systems production is delayed for two weeks due to the failure of PCI socket supplier from Taiwan. Matay would like to apologise to all our customers waiting for our product to be released. In meanwhile, please take a look at some http://www.matay.pl/ANGprometheus.html " target="_blank">photos of our PCI bridge mounted inside an A4000 Tower Escom system.
Best regards, Grzegorz Juraszek Matay PR & marketing

Posted by Paul Hill on 08-May-2001 22:00 GMT | Cards in my self-built A4000 tower have been vertical for years! They hang downwards :-)
God knows how I'd fit a Prometheus into something like this without sacrificing my 2 existing Zorro cards though. |

Posted by Martin on 08-May-2001 22:00 GMT | These photos show obviously that due to the mechanical collision, fitting
Prometheus with even one PCI card makes Z3 cards impossible to be used any more.
It means that such equipped A4000 would become NO better than A1200 with PCI busboard. |

Posted by Bill Toner on 08-May-2001 22:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 5 (Martin): Eh, depends on your hacking skills. I have an A4000T, and am searching for a nice
huge tower case. I want to mount the motherboard somewhat standardly in the middle
of the case, and then build a 90 degree adaptor so the prometheus plugs into the
"lowest" Zorro3 slot and lays parallel to the motherboard. This lets me
use the top 4 Zorro slots normally and still use all the PCI slots on prometheus.
I am suprised though that the PCI cards mechanically collide with the A4000T's
audio/video and SCSI cards, I really wasn't expecting this and hoped to put
prometheus into the topmost Zorro slot, so the PCI cards would point up toward the
lower drive cage, which is easily moved/cut out of the way. Oh well, not the end
of the world, and I've wanted a good rason to get a different case anyway. ;) |

Some Zorro slots will be obstructed but not all. |

In that case, I don't see how you would fit it in a Zorro III connector...
Or am I wrong ?

Posted by Grzegorz Juraszek on 10-May-2001 22:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 5 (Martin): If you insert Prometheus in a higher slot, those under the card are fully usable. If you have a tower case big enough, you can put it even in the first Z3 slot. |

Posted by Tronman on 11-May-2001 22:00 GMT | Looks good, but its too bad you can't use it as a substitute daughter
card for a A3000/4000D system. Then your cards would point the right
way. Maybe if this one sells they'll make a daughter card style
version for A3000-4000D systems. Personally, I don't care about the
video slot. Just give me a Matrox G400 dualhead card, with the video
capture option, and a firewire card, all with drivers. That's the way
to go for the future, as NTSC will be dead in three years. |

You're right. There are no technical problems and we can do it... if what we offer now sells well. |
