It's the fastest game up to now. It runs in 640x480, but since the screen isn't filled completely, the fill rate is only secondary...

Hi
Are the memory requirements same as Heretic2 and Shogo M.A.D ?
Will it be possible to run with medium detail with 64mb ram ?
Also can we expect a speed-up if Heretic2 is patched for Warp3D 4.0
in the near future ?
Thanks

Hey, if you compile Descent Freespace also for 68060, I'll buy also Heretic2 and Shogo (even though I will not be able to run them on my 68060 Amiga)
How's that as a offer? ;)

In reply to Comment 3 (Sinan Gurkan):
Memory requirement will probably be the same (64 MB). It will probably also be possible to play with full details with 64 MB, although I am not sure yet. There is a possibility to resrict texture sizes to cut down memory.
There will be a Heretic II patch, and although it will offer speed improvements it will not make use of the new V4 features - its too much work to adapt the engine to that, and would require rewrite of some parts of it. It would also not have too much impact. Right now we managed to improve performance by approx. 20

Yeah, unbelievable but true ;-)
Concerning Freespace on a 68k, we're trying that but I can't make any explicit statement if this will work out. If yes, it will require 3D hardware, as a 640x480 game in software rendering on the 68k will not be possible without major efforts...

Hey, we'll post news when news are available (mostly)...
For those games early in development, we don't do a progress page since there isn't much to see.
Elite force is Quake3 based... If at all this will have to wait until the AmigaOne boards are available, and virtual memory is implemented. Estimated memory footprint of this one is 400 MB...

Is Hyperion interested in porting Car Rally/Racing
games in 2002 ?
There is a lack of car games in both Mac/Amiga & Linux

How about licensing a car game instead of Worms Armageddon ?

Hyperion is virtually interested in any interesting and affordable opportunity.
A rally game is one of them.
>How about licensing a car game instead of Worms Armageddon ?
You mean we would break a contract on such a well known game ? No. Though we haven't communicate a lot on this game in particular, we must do first with the licenses we have, before looking for anything new.

Need For Speed 3 was great! When my friend hooked up his PSX to my

As for the question of why port older games, just look at MAME and
such emulator. Some of the older games on that are so addictive and
fun to play that they still capture attention of game players today.

Yeah, I'd love to see some rally/racing game for Amiga! Too much those 3D shooters already...and I personally don't like them at all :)
One of the EA's NHL games would be cool too :) Anything other than FPS&RTS games, please :) We haven't had proper driving game for years and there's hundreds of then in PC market, for example Viper Racing, Sports Car GT, Colin McRae Rallies & many other rally games...those are real fun as multiplayer games.

I've bought several more.

I vote for F1 GP 2 or 3.
And then some rally, perhaps Colin Mc Rae Rally 2, but even Screamer Rally (any) would be great too, compared to the current situation with no rally game at all.

A question to Hyperion:
What is the current status of your SiN porting project?
Last progress update was dated 20 april 2000 IIRC...
Can you please tell us when it will be finished?
Another question is if it is possible to port a sequel
as well (Wages of Sin)? It is even better than the
original, and the code seems to be the same...
Regards,
Andrew

SiN is finished but the current hardware is not powerful enough to do it justice so we are holding back release until the Amiga One ships.
Especially the lower-end Blizzardboards can't cope with the CPU power required.

Black and White requires a pretty kickass system. Even on my P3-933 with a 32 Mb GeForce DDR , playing at 800x600 , I get noticeable slowdowns on occasions.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for prompt answer. I never thought that
Q2 engine in SiN could be modified to such
extent as to make it unplayable on current
Amiga hw... :-7 Do you mean that even Warp3D 4.0
doesn`t help?
Still I`d like to persist with the questions
about add-ons and mission packs, such as "Wages
of SiN" (www.activision.com/games/sinmp1/
and www.2015.com). Will they work with
Amiga SiN? "Wages of SiN" is really a must,
since it easily beats the original, and in
multiplayer mode it is absolutely brilliant.

Andrew

This is the other Ben replying.
Warp3D 4.0 only handles the rendering process and the communication with the 3D chipset.
We're talking here of raw processor power. In Sin you have complex routines for the ennemy's IA. The 603/604, which still have parts of the 3D to calculate, also has to deal with the ennemies behaviours. This thing among others make that the game is pretty slow, particularly on a low-end 603 system
As Ben H. said, Sin will be perfect on the AmigaOne.

I guess it's up to one of our coders to answer here.

Talking about porting games,
Hidden and dangerous - brilliant!!
great storyline and fantastic graphics, ideal game on the internet and lan(ideal for the club i go to).
codename eagle - great fun(flying planes is great fun).
i like playing games you can relate to i.e www1 and 2
and not some fantasy theme that isn't related to anything.
thats my choice!.

Hi!
Sin has really *heavy* AI Code... this is the problem. So we are holding it back
till there is an Amiga Hardware powerful enough... nice launch-title for AmigaOne,
hehehe :)
As to the question concerning the Addon: Like for Heretic II Addons for Sin
are actually using modified executables. So such an Addon needs to be
ported like a full game (Well, not the *whole* thing needs to be ported,
but at least the game.dll)
Speaking of Addons: There is the possibility of another Heretic II Addon with
Amiga Support soon. I am currently talking with the Author about it :)

If you ever want to see that type of game on the Amiga, we would first need to see more sales of the current games.

That´s bullshit. Until an A4000 version would be finished the standalone A1 will be available, together with OS 4.2. You can buy this one and run it side by side with the A4000, it won´t cost you much additional money. BTW: I have an A4000 myself and I am waiting eagerly for the day I can shut it down the last time - it is slow, it is far from being stable and it is much too heavy to carry it around.
