According to the German Heise Newsticker, Metabox is unable to pay its bills. Metabox stellt Insolvenzantrag (Links to German content). A contributor in the Heise forums reminded that Metabox had once presented a PPC card for the A1200, but never completed/shipped. Here's more coverage, via Yahoo: "Metabox, a Hildesheim, Germany-based maker of set-top boxes for digital TV, has declared insolvency, a move equivalent to filing for bankruptcy protection." Metabox stock, once at a high of 42€, plummeted almost 50% to 0.68€ after the announcement. More interesting details: Founder and CEO Stefan Domeyer owns 9.02% of all shares, Dave Haynie 1.31%, Andy Finkel 1.28%. I'm not sure if that's IPO information, or up-to-date

Well, I did my bit and purchased one of their Mac CPU upgrades. It's a
500MHz G3 JoeCard and it's working fine so far (thankfully). I purchased
it last X-Mas and it's speeded things up a bit on my Mac clone (about 2X
the speed of my 1st. G3 upgrade - a Sonnet's 233 G3 card).
I would be interested to know if Metabox is going to be able to make any
provisions for warranty service on their products seeing as how my JoeCard
is warranteed through Dec. 2001.

Sad, of course. But it would have more emotional impact if they ever actually
shipped an Amiga-related product. Ho hum.

I never expected them to ship an Amiga product. It seemed to me from the beginning, that they were in financial trouble and once I phoned them to import their products to my own country, I did not receive any feedback. Even Pios, and other products were some kind of vaporware. Dave Haynie sure did invest his mind and time into this company but I never trusted them. Sorry.

Dave is working for "Met@box USA" IIRC - no point in trying to lure
him to AInc... :(

IIRC, Met@Box USA, Inc. is a separate entity from Met@Box GmbH. It is Met@Box GmbH that has declared insolvency, not Met@Box USA, Inc...though one would have to wonder what that means for the USA based corporation...the Pios One, however, is another question...I believe it is a product of the USA firm, and that it, therefore, might survive the collapse of Met@Box DE.
I did speak to the folks at the DE offices once, mostly about the AmiJoe product, and to some extent about the STBs. The major problem with importing the STBs is that they are set up to work on one or maybe two Deutsche Internet Providers...not ISPs in the USA...it would require a partnership with a large ISP to make it a viable product here....a new ISP vs. the competition is very difficulty...trust me...
I trust this isn't Dave's idea of a wonderful birthday gift...sigh...
At any rate...I keep the faith, and trust in a brighter future, just around the corner.
Cheers,

Other World Computing was selling off the remainder of their G3 & G4 CPU
upgrades. After the product is all gone, I'm not sure what will they have
up their sleaves. Their USA web site is mostly stuff about set top boxes.
It's kind of a pitty in that I think some of the people down in Austin were
pretty helpful when I had questions. The CPU upgrade seems to be working fine,
