Nabs wrote: Amiga are offering a time-limited offer called the AmigaDE Party Pack. Basically, you buy the AmigaDE now for $99. For that $99 you get a pre- release version of the AmigaDE, the SDK and a set of sample apps and games. Then, you can choose between either having $100 off an AmigaOne 1200, OR getting both OS4.0 and 4.2 when they are respectively released. They say they are weeks away from OS4.0, the AmigaOne and v1.1 of the SDK. The offer runs out on the 16th of June.

I'm sorry, allow me to make 2 minor amendments to that:
- for the $99 you also get 1 year of free updates
- they are weeks away from releasing v1.1 of the DE, not v1.1 of the SDK
Thanks.

:-)Woohoo! That's an excellent offer! Even though I can't really afford it at the moment, even though I don't have hardware to run AmigaDE on (yet, anyway), this is still a great deal! Buy a desireable product for 99$, get a 100$ discount for another desireable product.
Even if I end up going for a Shark, I'd still get my money's worth in the form of two OS upgrades I was going to buy anyway! Seems everyone is catered for. :-)
Thanks, Bill and Fleecy! I'll go buy it tomorrow morning!

This means that the AmigaONE should be functional now. AmigaBenelux show, here I come!!!

In reply to Comment 1 (Nabs):
It also says that the SDK will be included within the party pack. And I guess
the version number will be corresponding for the SDK and the DE by time of release,
that would be 1.1 for both.
Anyway, lets go party, Amiga Party.. ;-)
Ciao, Alex

Better not wait for a Shark... I have heard rumours from two
independent sources that Elbox has canceled them!

Hmm...seems there are two separate versions, one for Windows and one for Linux...that creates a bit of a dilemma: Should I go for the version I could test straight away, or the one running on top of the better OS?

I would like to get the SDK for linux and the DE for Windows...
Then I would be able to test and demo DE apps on Windows PCs at work, while doing all of the actual SW development on a stable os.
I'm not sure if that is possible, currently it seems that it is not. Who would it hurt to include both Windows and Linux versions of the DE but SDK for only the other one... (just an example)

Oh ya. "SDK v1.1 is ready in a few weeks". I read this announcement
several times last summer/year...

Its Amiga*DE* 1.1 not SDK 1.1 which is coming out then. AmigaDE 1.0 came out 2 or so months ago i think.
SDK 1.1 has been out for ages now (IIRC)

Too bad their shopping cart is messed up.
I had to use MS Internet Explorer to get my order in. ;-(
(Still got some weird error messages at the bottom of the page)
Netscape 4.7 or Espial Escape 4.6 didn't work!

Well AmigaDE v1.0 should be out on May, 30th. But nobody could mention
one product I can buy with AmigaDE yet...
SDK v1.1 hasn't been published yet. It's only out for some developers
(under NDA) and the party package includes also SDK1.1 AFAIR. Only SDK
v1.01 is out since several months.

I believe that DE 1.0 is the OEM version for PDAs etc. That DE 1.1 is
the version to be released for use with host OSs.

why all of this negative reactions over the past few statements from Amiga? I am also a die hard amiga fan, but I cannot understand why some of us behave like this. all of you have to admit that something is really happening right now. You can cry over everything that happened in the past and you are right, but please react to it if you have bought the new product soon. As for this message reply, I am going to buy an AmigaOne1200, but without the AmigaDE. I am only interested in AmigaOS4.0 and up and if that works, I will consider AmigaDE ofcourse but only if I can find use for it now! Allright I am not a programmer, they sure can use this! that's it.

Amiga SDK 1.0.1 was released late last year as the Windows version came out. 1.1 (or 1.2, whichever it will be, considering that Bill and Amiga support staff gave conflicting announcements at the time) was supposed to released back then as well, but as we all know, it has been delayed for over six months without explanation that I am aware of. Hope this clears things up a bit.

In reply to Comment 16 (Janne Sirén):
There is no big mystery about the six months delay. It was just caused
by the usual delays and hangups that always afflict software
development. It is very very rare for software to be delivered on
time. Programmers have a habit of underestimating the time needed by a
factor of 10.

In reply to Comment 21 (Don Cox):
To some extent painfully true. Although six or eight months delay would suggest changes in management plan (for whatever reason) concerning the product or severe communications problems.
If indeed the SDK would have been almost ready for shipping in October last year, I find it probable that the issues were more than technical (no need to remind me of the 90-10 rule, of course technical issues _could_ have caused the delay).
Personally I would have welcomed some explanation for the delay (also to clear up any misunderstandings floating around), but apparently they chose not to make such an announcement (please do correct me if I am wrong).
Naturally I am happy to see they are making progress now, I just wanted to correct the misunderstanding posted here concerning SDK 1.1 (although Bill in his October executive update, correcting a previous statement of his, does call 1.0.1 as 1.1 and the next version 1.2, so confusion is not unexpected).
The SDK update (and Windows version) released last October is version 1.0.1. Their current announcements seem to suggest that they are releasing 1.1 this summer.

Does anyone know how this offer translates for us in the UK? Do we simply
get the equivalent of $100 off the AmigaOne? I'm a little concerned Eyetech
have not been mentioned in this offer. Do they even know about it??
Still, I'm placing my order anyway but I'm just curious to know what Eyetech
make of it.

Don't own any wintel HW. Can't run it on anything I have (Amigas & Mac clone).
AI needs to address this shortcoming of the DE - it really should run on any
modern HW (even if it must be backward engineered to run on top of Mac OS or
Linux PPC - even support running it native on any Mac PPC HW).

In reply to Comment 26 (Antiwintel):
fleecy has strongly hinted that running DE hosted on Mac OS X is on
the To Do list. No guarantees of course.
He also said that AmigaOS 4.2 will run on an Open Firmware layer. Macs
use Open Firmware. This opens up certain possibilities.
