yeah chris, nice news item but... no one, except you cares for anything UAE (or icq for that matter (remeber your postabout "irc sucks" "icq rules" (because its soooo nice on my (your) pc))) (sorry for this, but this was the reason and the time i started to dislike ann.lu).
chris, there are so many nice news items in the unmoderated section and no one wants to know how nice uae really is.
you know chris, most amiga developers and supporters are working their ass off, most even do not get paid for what they do, and you, chris, have nothing better to do like posting some uae crap on your formerly number-one amiga site (remember where the network has its origin in amiga network news?)

Actually, I haven't used UAE in months.

I never said IRC sucked, just that ICQ was more convenient for my needs.

You're entitled to your opinion, just as much as I am entitled to mine. However,
once I dislike a site, I don't visit it anymore, or spend time posting comments.

There's lots of information in the Unmoderated section, but I'm just catching up
after being away for a week, and don't really plan to moderate twenty or thirty
news items to the main page that everybody has read already, anyway.
Also, you should have noticed that all I did was promote an unmoderated posting,
not posting this myself, and not adding any kind of opinion.

First of all, ANN was never "number one". Reporting on Usenet events was nice,
as long as there were worthwhile discussions on c.s.a.m or other groups. Dave
Haynie, Dr. Peter Kittel, Olaf Barthel, and many others stopped posting years
ago, and I had to move on to broader topics (ie. the web as news source rather
than Usenet) to keep ANN updated and interesting enough.
I fully appreciate the fact that people are working hard, and not getting a lot
in return, but there's nothing I can do about that. ANN isn't exactly making me
rich either, with Metabox filing for insolvency without ever paying for the
banners I ran for them late last year...
My point being, there's no way I can make everybody happy. Some people cling to
their "classics", others have moved on. There's no way I can keep ANN
interesting enough for one group without sacrificing it's usefulness for the
other...

I do notice however, that many news items interesting to actual Amiga
users are not mentioned. Things like software updates, and news about
other websites, important aminet releases etc..
This is why Czech Amiga News and amiga-news.de are more interesting
for actual amiga news for me. If Czech Amiga News had a comment system
it sure would be even more popular than it is now.
I notice that items i find interesting quite often remain only in the
unmoderated section of ann and never get to the front page whereas
various off topic things do.
I still enjoy reading ann, but it used to be the first news
site i visit each day, and its now one of the last.
I'm not sure how a tutorial on using an amiga emulator is important.
Those that are amiga users dont need it, and those that used to be i
would think know how to use it.

I think UAE is a fine product, when you don't have anything better to use (that is: a real Amiga)
Also I plan to use UAE for PPC or DE to run -very- old games that refuses or will refuse to run on my shiny new AmigaOne OS4+ !
Still looking fro an up to date version for PPC Amiga or DE of UAE ? Anyone help me ?
thanks
Mart

Sorry to bother you again, but christian how about a new poll like this:
Are you interested in non Amiga news like
-UAE,
-misc. processor news,
-Windows news,
-new GFX/SFX cards,
-news about aliens :)
and so on.....
good idea ?

I *am* Amiga developer. Actually, UAE is the only way for me to still enjoy
OS3.x because, current official development machines are x86 just in case you haven´t realized yet.
