It's AmigaOS, and these are not some stupid buggy Windoze hacks. (Yeah, these are also "hacks", but the AOS way..) If installed right, these aren't affect things badly.

You are right, it's not the face that makes the OS, but that is surely what people judge things by on first sight...People tend to be "visual" and want their stuff to look better than their friends stuff. That's just the way it is. Don't make it right, but the average "joe user" don't care about what is under the hood, they just want it to work and look good.
