  • Amiga Active

...with more to follow.

We are also very proud to announce that Amiga CTO, Fleecy Moss will be in attendance to show the latest AmigaOS on the latest hardware.

If that isn't enough, this could be your first opportunity anywhere in the world to see and even buy the AmigaOne and OS 4.0.

Discounted tickets will soon be available via selected Amiga dealers and via the show's website, which will be launching soon. Further details on this, including additional exhibitors and guest speakers, will follow shortly.

World of Amiga South East, is organised by SEAL, Kickstart, ANT, ASA and Sponsored by Amiga Active Magazine http://www.amigactive.com from Pinprint publishing.

This year's planned SEAL-O-RAMA show has evolved into something bigger!

Every show seems to state that theirs will be the first opportunity to see and buy XXX. Noone really knows when products will finally ship, do Amiga?
If we want our beloved to do well then new Amigas should be on show at the computer expo in Germany or Las Vegas not erm.. Brentwood, Essex....(no offense intended)...

In reply to Comment 1 (RoskildeFestivalInternetLounge2002sponsoredbyAMiGA):
I think its a long time since the Amiga marketplace and its players could afford to
travel and hold a launch event in Las Vegas and besides if they did then they
would not be able to get to the remaining Amiga community, from whom they want
to be the first buyers of the kit to show it to their friends and get sales on word of
mouth. Like it or not both the Amiga and the Playstation owed more of their success
to word of mouth, people coming back from the pub and going round their mates to see this
amazing new games machine, after school meet ups than anything else.
So, dont be too dispondent and down on this. Its the start we need IF the buggers deliver!

Damn, right! This show is a month after AmigaOne and OS4 is supposed to be ready!
If Amiga don't deliver I'm gone! I'm sick and tired of it will be out by xxxx

Uh, how many DV editing places that are sick of the Windows boxes and their limitations?? How many high-profile soft and hardware houses for whom the short four hour drive from LA isn't a big deal, like flying to Europe would be? Now that Amiga has modern PPC hardware again and its video isn't hobbled by being tied to NTSC, its time for the Amiga to once again be on the forefront of video production capabilities! Put those windoze boxes back in the back office where they belong, and let the real video box do the real video work!!

Computer buyers at Comdex and NAB don't
have to check their wallet. When Amiga
decide to paaarrty at these shows, with
a small army of developers in full demo
mode, they'll be in the right place at
the right time. But what you show had
better be done with professional design
and attention to detail. No monitors
smaller than 19". No wimpy (audio) speakers.
No incompetant buffoons who can't move
around the OS.Literature handed out must
include real world comparisons to competing
Mac, PC,and Open Source products, that even CEOs'
can relate to. So Don't SHOW UP IN VEGAS
without Altivec at the OS, Firewire at the OS,
Broadband at the OS, Dual-head at the OS, SMP
at the OS, and top flight apps tht use that
kind of power to the fullest. Maybe in 2 years...

The UK probably has about the same number of Amiga users as Germany. These 2 were always the strongest markets.

Now to try and get a couple days off work and find a lift to travel down to Essex -- I wish it was further north.

Well, why don't you try organising one?
If you notice this WoAse show is being but together by SEAL, Kickstart,
ASA, ANT and sponsored by Amiga Active.
We tried to do WoA 2000 in Birmingham. Guess what, with one exception, there
were no volunteers in Birmingham, The project run out of time and well that was the end.....
I guess that's why we put shows on in the South East, That's where there is a
big pool of Amiga users. There is also a large enough pool in the North as could
be judged by the excellent turnout at ALT.WOA
Nope, the midlands is pretty barren in my humble opinion.

(Everything stated here is my personal opinion only and does not necesserily

I was trying to organise an amiga show for the midlands area of the uk (seeing as I'm based in leicester).
I ran into many problems - ranging from people refusing outright to come to the show if it was anything other than just 'Amiga' - I thought a non-wintel show would have done very well for cross community support.
Then there's the cost of venue's some of the ones I checked out were looking at £2,000 for a days hire.
Please dont state the midlands is barren its not, it's just not as lucky as other places in finding venue's - I for one am still looking and so are the members of my local usergroup.

It's is a bit of a giveaway isn't it? ;)
Actually, the other reason why we called it that, is so that other groups can
host World of Amiga North east/west and perhaps even, World of Amiga Midlands.
Some people seem to be confused with the name, first of all the show isn't
going to be as BIG as WoA'99 but it will be the biggest Amiga show in the UK
since WoA'99 - OR WE SHALL DIE TRYING!
We are even inviting vendors from abroad to attend, with Amiga Active's
sponsorship and promotion, (Thanks guys) we may well achieve this. :)

Mark.
I know you are trying to organise a show in the Midlands and have been for some time.
- The problem is (from my point of view) is that you cannot do it on your own.
You need at least another 4 or 5 like minded, willing to work their guts off, individuals
to help out.
Even you would admit, there aren't many usergroups in the Midlands. - Much less
Birmingham! (which is where the original post stated)
If there are a lot of Birmingham Amiga users, they keep quite don't they ;)

Well, unfortunately there appears to be a minimal Amiga presence in Northern Ireland, otherwise I would personally arrange an Amiga Exhabition :-(

There is quite a few amiga users in N.I, just not all of them have an online presence unfort. Gone is the time though when everyone ya new almost had an amiga of some sort, a few of my friends that still have em but r not net connected... but word of mouth has spread alittle about the future amigas.
Was suprised one day i seen this SVGA monitor for sale and went to the guys house to check it out, expeting to find PC'S cluttering up the house, it had amigas, towered up amigas, was like meeting a relative:)
Just goes to show that even in this day and age there is still some people who have as yet to get there amiga online and see the wealth of amiga users there our and software thats avail.
