Makes me wonder if it would be hard to compile the aros parts for amithlon to run x86 native and if it would be still allow execution of 68k apps.

The "Amiga Research Operating System" (AROS),
is meant to be portable, this is one reason for it the time it takes to develop AROS,
lots of things are missing if you look on the road map of aros, some parts like device handling,
is not the same as in AmigaOS, AROS has more in common with Amiga OS the Linux.
Linux, BSD and AmigaOS are all descendants from Unix.
Infect some program code has bin ported to MorphOS, and even to Amiga OS 3.9.
The difference between Amithlon and AROS is this,
Amithlon is just a fast emulator with support for i686 instructions,
AROS is an OS, with no support for 68xx instructions.
MorphOS an OS, with support for emulated 68xx.
AmigaDE is notebook OS.
AmigaDE player equals SDK with out development packages, with AmigaDE.
AmigaOS XL is ?????

While it's true that AROS handles certain things differently to AmigaOS, this is just to remove outdated concepts (AmigaDOS packets!!!) and replace them with an object oriented approach. This provides a much faster and cleaner sub system, with increased modularity (replace drivers, OS components and hardware devices etc with out a reset or any software incompatibilites). Such improvements are implemented in such a way that any software will not notice and so providing a fully compatible AmigaOS clone.
AROS has very little in common with Linux, Although we do provide a special library to allow easy porting of UNIX programs. AROS is an AmigaOS clone.

I have download this disk images, tried them on a cyrix cpu, where not able to boot, to make the boot disk I, wrote "cp disk.img /dev/fd0", selected yes to overwrite the device.
I’m relay interested to have the cross compiler for AROS, I know it is hard work to configure the cross compiler correct, I have tried this once, as for the project I like to contrib. to some parts, I have web based database system I like to contrib. it used __clone() function, and I use fopen(), fclose(), tcp,
I do need some information on how to port, I have never made an large C program for AmigaOS or equal systems.

I would use:
dd if=disk.img of=/dev/fd0
to put the disk image onto a disk myself. Hmm, FreeBSD supports 1720KB floppies directly does it?!
I will try this later today at work if I can get hold of a disk.
Matt, is there going to be an disk image of sample applications that we can run on AROS - e.g., MAME, Doom, or whatever?

Well I where testing Win2000, just for fun one day.
W2000 is better then NT as it installed it’s NT-loader on first block, W2000 installed it on extended partisan not over the LILO boot loader. As there is not big difference in W98 and W2000, I removed 2000, Now I’m stuck with LILO and NT-loader, and I do not have W2000 no more. fdisk /mbr will not do as it will just remove LILO not the NT-loader, and do not like to crash my partisan table one more time. I’m think about making a boot CD with AROS. by using the floppy disk.img, do you think Nero Burning Rom, supports this disk images ?

AROS is cool.
It's this kind of project that makes me want to be a developer.
I don't know what the AROS team have for their future plans but
I'm looking forward to possibilities such as running it on a
G4 Mac or how about a DE player on top of AROS on a Compaq iPaq thingy ?
I think I'm correct in saying that H&P and MorphOS "borrowed" elements from
AROS. I hope they contribute something back in return.

Well AROS is ported to 68xxx, and they have plans to port it to PPC and many otter CPU’s,
I know they are taking about memory protections, using the Linux way. At the same time they are trying to make AROS as source compatible with AmigaOS they can,
AROS is most likely going to better OS the AmigaOS ever was.
Butt main stream is going to most likely use AmigaOS4.0 or MorphOS.
I do not know a lot about MorphOS, AmigaOS4.0, AmigaXL or AmigaDE.
The battle of the best of base AmigaOS started.
I’m betting on MorphOS as the first stand alone PCC AmigsOS,
and AROS as they follow a well know strategy, the Linux way.
I don’t know a lot about AmigaXL even so AmigaXL my be long a heed of MorphOS if it is a port if p.OS.
AmigaDE is not going to be full scaled OS only a environment for PDA’s, this is not full os and there for can not replace AmigaOS, a lot of people is going to use it, even so they are most leaky not going to know it is an AmigaOS environment for there PDA’s.
As for DE player for AROS this is most unlikely, as AROS will be in direct composition with AmigaOS 4.0 (Amiga Inc)

I like to compare p.OS with AROS.
Every program you run on AROS requires recompiling then is required in p.OS,
Just like AROS not all of the functions is equal to Amiga OS,
Yes p.OS it was made by ProDAD,
I seem to have seen p.OS as H&P for a wile back when I wrote the first note,
Can’t conform nor conform. This is a roomer in the real sense.
If any one can conform or unconform the teary then I’m interested.
I’m only interested in facts, say a url link.
Amiga OS 4.0 is not based on Worp UP.
