Wouldn't it have been easier just to ask Elbox? Even they couldn't take >2 months to reply ;)

I'd say the question on everyone's lips is: "what will it run?".
What OS has it been tested with? What will it be running? etc, etc...

I'm still waiting for Elbox Sales Support to answer some questions on ZIII Mediator and SharkPPC. If only they would finish their website so that the links actually take you somewhere...

In reply to Comment 2 (Bill Hoggett):
I assume that it has been tested/developed with OS3.9 until OS4.0 is available. At least this is a step forward towards making A3000 and A4000 amigas "AmigaOne" compatible and able to run OS4.0. The more Amigas capable of running OS4.0 means more revenue for Amiga Inc which makes them look more attractive to investors and will actually help to put money into the pockets of Amiga retailers.
I desperately want to add a PCI solution to my A3000, but that solution will also have to provide a modern PPC upgrade too. AT the moment, Elbox are the only company who are promising a PPC card of their own while Matay are hoping someone else will make one.

In reply to Comment 4 (Darrin):
I dunno. AFAIK, sticking a SharkPPC in a Mediator doesn't suddenly make it Zico compatible but I may be wrong. Then again, OS 3.9 is a 68k OS, isn't it? One wonders how much testing has actually been done, or whether the SharkPPC is just complete now as hardware, with Elbox relying that OS4.0 will just work with it when released.

>>I dunno. AFAIK, sticking a SharkPPC in a Mediator doesn't suddenly make it Zico compatible but I may be wrong.
I'm refering to the Elbox announcement about their "partnership with Amiga Inc" to allow OS4 to run on a Mediator/SharkPPC+ setup. I'm (fairly) sure that (several months ago) Elbox stated that if you want to be able to run OS4 then you should buy the SharkPPC+ and not the plain old SharkPPC. Can anyone with a better memory than mine back me up on this? :)
>>Then again, OS 3.9 is a 68k OS, isn't it? One wonders how much testing has actually been done, or whether the SharkPPC is just complete now as hardware, with Elbox relying that OS4.0 will just work with it when released.
Yep, I assume that their hardware is probably complete and is functional as a PPC card with OS3.9 in much the same way that a DCE card fuctions with OS3.9 - ie. PPC code will be exectuted by the PPC chip and the onboard 680x0 takes care of the rest, while any RAM fitted to the card is available to the classic (This is just guesswork). OS4 should then be able to make the Mediator/Shark plus act like an AmigaOne as OS4 with the Amiga motherboard providing post I/O ports, the Mediator providing PCI hosting (for sound card, modem, ethernet and firewire) and the SharkPPC+ providing the AGP slot, memory and USB ports.

If you're subscribed to the mailing list you mention and the message
was sent to the list (it is, I checked the logs), then it's highly
probable that you received it from there.
Hope that helps :-)

Thanks - I didn't mean confirm where it came from, I meant has anyone read this quoted statement in AmigaActive or seen it anywhere else. I'm just surprised that Elbox don't post their own announcements on ANN/Amiga.org/etc as this kind of information is of interest to many Amiga users.
Of course, I'm sure we'd also like to see weekly updates on the AmigaOne and OS4 :)

Zico Compliant Mediator Busboard - And the point of this would be? Surely it is aimed at the same market as the AmigaOne from Eyetech, there is no space for competition here!! The market is too fragile to have a PowerUP/WarpUP or Elbox/Hyperion fiasco. Oh hang on... Elbox strike again.
However, looking more closely at Merlancia (Sounds like something out of Total Recall) and the bPlan mobo, now THERE is a market to tap into. ALA Gigabyte, Abus, Asus, and so on.
Leave the AmigaOne to enjoy a Monopoly, it may not be best for low prices or increase development, but it'll save the ass of Eyetech and Amiga Inc, without them, there's IS no market.

This is not some sudden attempt by Elbox to undermine AmigaOne sales. Several months ago Elbox and Amiga Inc announced a partnership to enable the Mediator/SharkPPC+ combo to run OS4.0 (It was announced her on ANN and there is a press release on the Elbox website). This is actually very good news for existing Mediator users as is means that they wont have to throw away their existing PCI solution in order to run the new OS. It is even better news for A3000 and A4000 users who, up until now, have been faced with having to retire their hardware and buy a towered A1200 in order to upgrade to OS4.0. With the SharkPPC+ and the fabled Mediator Z3 board you will (should) be able to convert your trusty A3000/A4000 into an AmigaOne. Of course, A3000 users will only have ECS support in “classic” mode until OS4.2 comes out and provides AGA within the software emulation.
I’m sure that this competition will affect sales of the AmigaOne to the extent that the majority of existing Mediator A1200 users will buy the SharkPPC+ instead, but I’m sure that most A1200 owners who haven yet bought a Mediator will probably just buy the AmigaOne from Eyetech. The main deciding factor will no doubt be whether the cost of an Eyetch A1 board is greater or less than the cost of a Mediator1200 bundled with a SharkPPC+.
Either way, my plans are simple: Eyetech AmigaOne for my “Power Tower A1200” and a Mediator/SharkPPC+ for my A3000… unless Matay come out with something interesting :)

Morph OS is probably going to run on all of this PPC based sultans as far as I know they do not proved hardware of there own, that my suffer form making the OS available for the no existing hardware competitors, as they simply do not provide hardware.
Butt if you look to mac you se the Appel Inc trying to keep the 3rd party hardware manufactures of the market, because the imac hardware will suffer from composition.
If you look at the PC market, you se M$ not owing hardware of they own and therefor make there OS more widely available by supporting TOSHIBA, OLIVETTI, IBM, DEL, HP, and makes money out of OS sales.
If you look at the PC market this is fine market as M$ can’t putt there foot down as it will violet it make there OS less, flexible the Linux, BSD and QNX.
The Mac market has no compression the PC market has, on the PC market if some won start selling crappy hardware / OS you can always by some ting ells.
On the Mac market if Appel inc provided a crappy model. You just wait until they make a new one, and sins you do not have a new hardware you don not upgrade the OS, as it most likely uses larger disk buffers and requires more hard drive space and CPU speed.
There for the price increases to restore the loss in the market.

Well, from what I know, no AmigaONE for 4000 has been developed so far.
The current prototype is 1200 only. A 4000 version could be made after the
200-A1 board has been completed and on sale. Sincerely (and IMO) a 4000-AmigaONE
is hopeless and a totally waste of time. If you get an AmigaONE, a 4000 is
unusefull..as you would lose Zorro expansion (for design matters. A 1200 board
is little, cheap and perfect to achieve classic hardware to OS (till 4.2) or
backward compatibility.

Just for everyone's info, this is the press release from Elbox dated 11 April 2001 which was published here on ANN and is available on the website in the news archives:<p>
<p>
Amiga Inc and Elbox working together for Amiga OS 4.0 and beyond [11 April 2001, Snoqualmie, Washington, USA]<p>
<p>
Amiga Inc is pleased to announce a long-term relationship with Elbox Computer Ltd of Krakow, Poland. Amiga Inc announced the development of AmigaOS4, the latest version of the high performance, user friendly operating system that introduced multimedia to the world at the St Louis trade and user show on the 31st March 2001. To support AmigaOS4, Amiga Inc also released the Zico hardware specification targeted at PowerPC processors. Elbox Computer Ltd are working closely with Amiga Inc to ensure that their existing and future products will gain Zico certification, and thus provide a perfect platform for AmigaOS4.<p>
<p>
'St Louis marked the beginning of the future.' said Bill McEwen, President and CEO of Amiga Inc. 'Key to that is the Amiga community moving forwards in a single direction, united and determined. With Elbox as a partner, another key Amiga company has joined the drive forwards towards success.'<p>
<p>
'Our long-term commitment to computer technology is now giving tangible results in the Amiga market,' said Maciek Binek, CEO of Elbox. 'Now, with the Amiga Inc. initiative, we can see a clear sign of future-oriented thinking and strategy, a breakthrough for this computer. We hope Amiga will soon again become the common word.'<p>
<p>
'Elbox have taken a major role in not just supporting the existing Amiga market with their many products but also in providing a path forwards.' said Fleecy Moss, CTO of Amiga Inc. "Our relationship with them will ensure that their existing customers can benefit from AmigaOS4 whilst new users coming to the Amiga will have additional excellent choices in the hardware that they can buy.'<p>
<p>
AmigaOS4 is currently under development and will ship in Summer 2001. Elbox products can already be purchased from all major Amiga dealers, and their next new product, the SharkPPC+ will be available along with the premiere of the AmigaOS4 system.
