I realised that in the short term, it would be better to create a quick fix for the 1,000,000,000 second misbehaviour in ANN's scripts, rather than wait for a complete rewrite to fix the conceptual mistakes I made in the v2 revision. As such, ANN is fully online again after a week of inactivity, and in the future, I will be working on the v3 scripts in my spare time without affecting ANN's normal operation. As for a progress report, I'm afraid I'm already behind schedule, but I suppose these things can happen in a one-person project... Please discuss. :)

Posted by Janne Sirén on 18-Sep-2001 22:00 GMT | I've often noticed that it is very risky to try to fix what is not broken in volunteer projects. Quite often one ends up killing or hurting a good thing. My suggestion to you would be not to close ANN again until you are absolutely sure you can get the updated version online promptly.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and hope that ANN will again attract as many visitors as before when it's fully operational again. |

Are you going to keep it the same, apart from using a database, or are you going to change the look of the site as well at the same time? |
