I realised that in the short term, it would be better to create a quick fix for the 1,000,000,000 second misbehaviour in ANN's scripts, rather than wait for a complete rewrite to fix the conceptual mistakes I made in the v2 revision. As such, ANN is fully online again after a week of inactivity, and in the future, I will be working on the v3 scripts in my spare time without affecting ANN's normal operation. As for a progress report, I'm afraid I'm already behind schedule, but I suppose these things can happen in a one-person project... Please discuss. :)

Uh-oh, I had my share of "coneceptual mistakes" in self-written scripts. I feel with you, Chris. Good luck... ;-)

Yep, it is hard to spec out what is wanted / needed up against what is really wanted / needed. Sometimes the unwanted is the needed. Many times the unexpected is wanted / needed. Usually the cost of the wanted is not needed.

I've often noticed that it is very risky to try to fix what is not broken in volunteer projects. Quite often one ends up killing or hurting a good thing. My suggestion to you would be not to close ANN again until you are absolutely sure you can get the updated version online promptly.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and hope that ANN will again attract as many visitors as before when it's fully operational again.

Any news on the current status of the rewrite?
Are you going to keep it the same, apart from using a database, or are you going to change the look of the site as well at the same time?

I have noticed that there seem to be no updates to any moderated items, despite the claims of 'resuming normal operation.' Are people simply not posting new items? Are they not getting transferred to moderated status?
