From the Audiolabs homepage: "It's ready. The ProStationAudio architecture has been enhanced to make this non-linear editing software solution for AmigaOS even more powerful. And faster. The new version based on this design, ProStationAudio Titanium, is ready and will be on sale in a few days. While Amigas are wonderful systems, their main problem is lack of raw hardware horse-power: Titanium addresses this problem at design level, using optimizations independent on the host CPU, so that 68K (060 recommeded), PPC, and emulated 68K hardware benefit." Read more about its new features here.

It would be nice to see developers (at least try to) support the x86 API where needed. I think Prostation is a good example of an app that could benefit from this.

Idea:
- Amiga Inc. provides API and developer support to Audiolabs...
- A new 'killer app' is born
- Advertised in music mags to people who want 'a solution'.
...or would that sell (shock, horror!) too many Amigas?! ;-)

Great idea. The one BIG think lacking from an end user's point of view in OS4+ in any 'serious' apps.ProStation Audio fits this bill along with Realsoft4D,Photogenics,SoundFX,plus a couple of others. This needs to run on OS4+

In reply to Comment 1 (Brecht [darklite]):
Why???I'm guessing you mean for Amithlon?
If developers start using the x86 api, then what's the point in OS4 or the A1?
We'll all be running emulated 400mhz 060's on OS3.9.Woop-e-doo....Bad idea.
Talk about living in the past.
If you didn't mean Amithlon, then ignore what I just said.

Does altivec help in audio processing in any way?

In reply to Comment 5 (priest):
Yes, this is exactly the kind of thing Altivec is good at. According
to a Mac expert, Cubase, Logic Audio and Digital Performer all take
advantage of Altivec. His recommendation is for a Mac with 2 G4
processors.

ProStationAudio could run very well on Morphos on Pegasos with 2 G4 CPUs ...

hmmm... One work mate said he ran the tasks of 2 multicore 350Mhz DSP's in single 800Mhz G4... I quess I would not need Delfinas DSP then...

Would certainly prefer that than using x86 architecture. We need a new Amiga OS though, and I don't mean AmigaOS4 (we need at least AmigaOS 5, NOW).

I meant an x86 version next to the 68k and PPC versions.

I'm sure that they're doing a x86 port.Might be wrong though...

IS MorphOS a SMP-ready OS? Last thing I heard is that the Amiga sandbox cannot
make use of multiprocessing. Anyone knows more?

Quark is SMP-ready, but the emulation box is not.

Um, I went and downloaded the demo and was very impressed, especially
as previous versions didn't seem to like my system and would always
lock up after a few minutes. It seems it was the screen mode I
selected under CGX (so set the tooltype, kids!). It's pretty nippy on
an '060, but imagining PSA running on a G4 is fairly mouth-watering.
However, I then looked at the price, and my heart sank somewhat - $125
for the cheapest version is a little out of my reach right now; but
it's probabaly worth it.

So what is the use of this SMP kernel when you cannot use it for applications?
To build in 2 years a new OS on top of it?
Run multiple instances of Amigasandbox for multiuser capability?
Run different OS' at the same time on this kernel?

maybe run all ppc native apps?
I take it the emulation of 68k apps is one task, like a ppc native task.

PSA a killer App? Well its for sure a very good one, especially on the Amiga. But I am afraid it can in NO WAY
compete with Cubase (with its hundreds of killer-plugins)or Logic.
If you are aware of any advantages, tell me :-)

The point is that multiprocessor support is not something you can add
afterwards to a system that has not been thought with that in mind.
You have to put it there from the start, just like e.g. memory
protection.
For the emulation box, it's not useful, but when things start moving
to the Quark side, they'll take advantage of it.
One way to use it currently would be to have a task from the
box delegate CPU-intensive computations to quark threads doing that
would do no I/O. But this is not documented yet.

PSA is Xcellent, but for me it is still not close to Reason (!!! the BEST music program in the world)
or Cubase (yeah)...
I'd be more interested in it when (and IF) they will create most-wanted
PPC plugIN - "reverb"...
I don't get it - why they can't create reverb on Amiga? :((

You hit the nail on the head! Reverb and Amiga is like a curse.
I always wonder why nobody tries to adapt the MacOS PPC Cubase
plugin-API to AmigaOS/AHI/PSA, so that one could use lots of
existing plugins!
