In November, ann.lu served 674,488 successful requests, delivering about 290,000 pageviews to 38,617 distinct hosts. Compared to last month's all time high of pageviews, this is once again a 40% increase. Overall, 4.624 Gbytes of (compressed) data were transferred. 514,684 requests came from Windows-based browsers, only 70,912 from Amiga browsers (not considering spoofing). For the first time in quite a few months, I've also been able to fill both ad spots with advertisements. Now, if I could only find a way to make a few posters use more English, and less swearing, I would be completely happy with where ANN is going, even if I haven't been involved a lot lately, due to work and other commitments. So I guess this is yet another "thank you" to everybody who keeps ANN and its community going.

Posted by smithy on 02-Dec-2001 16:19 GMT | Congratulations Christian, I am pleased for you that ANN is going from strength to strength :)
What I find interesting is the browser figures - it equates to 88% using a Windows browser, but just 12% using an Amiga browser.
Who keeps saying that when Amiga users buy PCs they lose all interest in the Amiga side of things? This clearly isn't the case - it shows that AmigaOS fans who own PCs haven't lost interest in keeping up to date with Amiga stuff.
Perhaps some of the 88% may account for people browsing from work or university, but I don't think that would swing that figure as high as it is.
The simple facts are, that the majority of AmigaOS fans use PCs. |

Internet could not handle it if Amiga was "alive".

Posted by Robin Cloutman on 02-Dec-2001 18:27 GMT | Well, I'm on a windows browser (IE6), but I'm still on the net with my amiga - the pc is just on a LAN with the miggy as gateway. And browsing the web is the only net service the pc does, irc, mud, icq, email, news, etc are all on the miggy... sadly it's just not up to browsing as many sites as IE yet... maybe I should find a gfx card for my miggy soon ;-)

Posted by Don Cox on 02-Dec-2001 19:05 GMT | In reply to Comment 7 (Robin Cloutman): The figures for which browser is used are meaningless, because anyone
using an Amiga browser is obliged to spoof as IE all the time, or get
locked out of a large proportion of sites. |

You absolutely should, it makes an enormous difference to the Amiga,
especially for web browsing.
And get a big monitor to go with it. |

Posted by Mekanix on 02-Dec-2001 19:09 GMT | In reply to Comment 8 (Don Cox): hmm.. I've only set up Konqueror to spoof as IE on 3 sites. Rest of them I have no issues with apart from poor HTML. |

publish amigaOS for pegasus and i'll be there! |

I think it could :)
Christian would need to make stats according to the (distant) time of the requests and day of week, and take into acount spoofing (I think most of the time it is possible to find out the real browser)... to confirm or deny this.
Not that I care so much. Only that I haven't got a PC and I'm fed up of people stating that 99.9% of Amiga users have got a PC too. |

Posted by Richard on 03-Dec-2001 06:43 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (smithy): I can only tell about how it is for me. Everyday I check ANN in the morning from my work. I donĀ“t own an Amiga anymore (unfortunately) but follow with great interest everything that happens and hope I someday will be able to install a full, new operating system. I am not talking about OS 4 since it is not for X86. I am waiting for OS 5 and have waited for that new OS (or somehting similar) since spring 1998 when Gateway first announced their plans (before Jim Collas!). |
