Who was VP of Engineering before him? in other words, is someone being replaced or is this a new function?
These guys don't work for peanuts so I guess Amiga really does have money at last if they can pay people like this, also apparently they must have a vision or business plan that interested this man enough to come work for them.
Any thoughts ?

I'm with you, Frans. They are hiring people, not firing or laying off people.
These days, that counts for something.
As far as the fact that he once worked at M$: C'mon Christian! What are we to assume about THAT comment? That he is somehow tainted? That he is somehow a 5th column operative for The Evil Empire? That this, too, somehow taints the efforts of AI? I don't hear the same being said about the former C= employees that work at M$, or about the Bars & Pipes guy who works there?
Christ! They are in WASHINGTON! A few miles from Redmond. Much of the talent in the area has worked at M$ at one time or another.
Sometimes, the things that are said here, and in other web boards and forums, just makes me very sad for what has become of the collective affect in the "Amiga Community".

So now we got a Vice pres. of engineering, the pres. of engineering is Floocymoosy isn`t it? I doub`t he`s got much to request refering to wages
after all there`s not much jobs to find in the business anymopre, overthere. I guess he`s happy to have found anything at all.
Have they hired any engineers which the presidents of engineer can bully? Or are those 3
the only eomployees left?

Amiga give us a xmas present. Sanjay - you there?
Give us something to look forward to, you missed July, ok Noveber 1st didn't happen but tell us, H O N E S T L Y , when can we buy a Amiga One motherboard with groovy AmigaOS4? Please, if its gonna take another 6 months, tell us.
Whats going on with Sharp, did we fluff it? Would I still be supporting Amiga if I bought one? And Hyperion, who is paying them? They're doing a lorra lorra work (cilla style) but wheres the source of income? So maybe you guys HAVE got money but you're keeping quiet?! Hmmm... some of us have mouths to feed and children to rear.... Fleecy, Bill, Sanjay and Engineer x, y and Z, give us the best xmas in 8 years!.... go on.... pleeeeeaaasseeeeee!!!!!

No, Fleecy is Vice President of Development, which you'd know if you took the time to check. There is no President of Engineering.
Bill is the President. Period. Those right below him [i.e.: Fleecy Moss, Randall Hughes, and Vincent E. Pfeifer] are Vice Presidents. At bit lower are the Directors [Gary Peake, Dean Brown, and Gordon Stone].
Then comes the Managers. you get the point. Amiga is set up, corporately [sp] speaking, just like any other company. None that I know of have more than one President.[that don't mean that there ain't: just that I'm not aware of one :p].
You'd know that, too, if you'd bother to check things before just spewing out this kind of......oh, right, never mind. I get it: You're just a troll!
My bad.
Sorry to waste everyones time....

Why don't all the trolls just grow up?
If you don't like Amiga, then go and use your PCs or your Macs, and just shut up, okay? Is that so hard? Don't waste bandwidth misusing ann to further your anti-Amiga viewpoints with insults and criticism about every announcement Amiga make, regardless of how positive it is for Amiga.
It is good that they have a VP of Engineering. Possibly their investors required one in order to gain extra funding? These people usually have lots of experience in their field, which can only be a good thing for Amiga and their plans.

I was under the impression that Fleccy was CTO, or chief tech officer. These guys, judging
from what ours does, as well as people like Marc Andreesen (used to be effective CTO for
AOL after they bought netscape but before he left to form LoudCloud) are the 'tech watchdogs'
of the company, they make sure the company isn't falling behind, is taking advantage of what's
new out there (and relevant to their business plan, of course).
This is different from a VP of development or engineering, where that person would be directly
in charge of a company's software dev division, or hardware engineering or whatever they make/provide
as a service.
In Amiga's case, they have both hardware people (e.g. DKB) as well as software people (various contractors
worldwide as well as partners like H&P, Hyperion, etc.) on staff. Thus I'd bet this guy is charged with heading
up a bit of both, as while they provide hardware specs, they keep reminding us they aren't a hardware
company like the old amiga inc/commodore/ESCOM were.
I think the other relevant connection here is that this guy worked at ConnectSoft here in Seattle
in a past life, as did Bill McEwen and my company's former VP of development, which is how I found
out about how my work colleague knew him, too - not from Amiga/Gateway. Bill probably knew and
respected the guy and wanted him as part of Amiga.
A final comment - note that this guy was at the Evil Empire (believe me, living in its shadow
is more than a bit annoying) for a few years, but, he worked on a Java Virtual Machine there, which
as we know, M$$$ no longer bothers with, they leave it to the OEMs like Dell, Compaq, etc.
to put on their computers starting with WinBlows Extra Pernicious, the current version. They have
turned their backs on Java, which is the opposite of Amiga, probably why he's also interested in Amiga.

I mentioned this in the unmoderated version of this news, which I am repeating here. (Sorry I went there before reading the wholle news page.)
I am OK with the fact he once worked for Microsoft. However, this line "His responsibilities there included shipping portions of the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine which was delivered in the Internet Explorer browser." makes me worry about competance. Also, is this the right sort of experience to have for the job? Wouldn't experience in a product that increases, not decreases cross-platform compatibility be more helpfull?

I really hope they will start to get things finally right! There's a huge amount of frustration about Amiga Inc. out there (including me) - and especially from professionals, developers and companies! There are serious doubts that AInc. has archieved anything for the market and the Amiga itself at all! All relevant products come from other parties and not AInc. Still there's no clear vision or plan about what's to happen next. They didn't even lose any explaining word about the recent delays of their own (supported) products (OS4/AOne) and about the current Sharp situation - which is definately very unprofessional! Nobody really knows and understands what's going on and where we're supposed to go - I doubt Amiga itself knows! A situation which makes existence in this fragile market almost impossible... and another vice president won't change that!
The people behind the anti-troll posts seem to not understand the signifisance of the situation! If people are very dissatisfied with and honestly worried about the Amiga situation and the impulses (if any) coming from Amiga Inc. then why they should not express them?? The brand and market is so DAMN weak and has continously + terribly shrinked over the last 2 years that there's no further capacity for experiments, delays and lethargy! Don't blame people for starting to adress questions and concerns - it's not that Amiga has delivered too much answers / results! Because they bought the name Amiga doesn't mean they're doing good work automatically! So I won't stop expressing my serious doubts until the give me reason to believe and hope... they haven't archieved both yet!

I really think people should stop getting upset about the lack of "news" from Amiga inc. After all, "no news is good news".
Also, why's everyone getting the impression we've lost the Sharp deal? I see it mentioned all over. Ok, so most of the time they refer to the Zaurus as running the Elate system from Tao, rather than saying AmigaDE, but I don't believe that means that AmigaDE is not there. As Tao themselves said, "Amiga is our most important customer". AmigaDE adds the content and value to what otherwise could be "just another OS".
Hiring is good. How many companies are making people redundant right now?! Amiga has taken on a new member of staff, and what's more is attending a careers fair. You simply can't go out hiring people if you know you can't pay them. And you certainly don't spend valuable cash going to careers fairs if you don't have every intention (and the necessary resources) to see the process through to actually employing people.
As for the people who bring up the subject of Microsoft's JVM and it's proprietary additions and so on... it's not Sanjay's fault!!! Come off it! The decision to bastardise the JVM that Microsoft shipped was no doubt a high level decision made specifically with the intention of scuppering Sun and its whole Java crusade. The people who worked on the JVM were no doubt told from above to make it happen.
So Sanjay: welcome to the Amiga community. I can only apologise for those people who will judge you before you've even had the chance to prove yourself.

Zaurus hasn't run Elate for ages, runs lineo embedded linux, with the Jeode mini-java solution, Codewarrior C++ dev environment, using QT embedded for the windowing environment.Check qpe.sourceforge.net for a cross-platform dev environment for X/win32. Zaurus is a nice system, but I've never seen anything about Amiga on the dev list.

I slightly edited my post to remove commentary posted yesterday. Usually, I refrain from posting personal opinions on main page posts, but some bizarre combination of too much frustration and irritation and general lack of sleep made me do it, and worse, made me write something even I don't agree with today.
I guess I could blame it all on stress, but we all know that pointless venting should never be directed at other people or companies.
A few excuses I could cite are:
I'm slightly overwhelmed by a project at work, which I am responsible for. Working with Powerbuilder and coping with its bugs and inconveniences is frustrating. I recently restarted athletics training, but find that my ambitions are lowered at every training by my injury. Then, the motorway (interstate) was closed and for the past few nights truck after truck has driven in low gears (or worse, accelerated from a red light) right in front of my bedroom window.
But the truth is, I made a mistake. I judged the book by its cover, and worse than that, did what I dislike the most in several anonymous posters here on ANN: attack personally, not based on facts but on rumours and superstitions. For just one second, I was worse than a Slashdot troll.
So I guess I'll have to apologize to my readers, to Sanjay Menon and by extension also to the people at Amiga Inc.
