Best part:
"JA: Do you still use your Amiga?
Matt Dillon: We (I still do occassional consulting for Sandel-Avery Engineering up in Tahoe) still have a couple of live telemetry systems based around the A3000 (hopefully not for too much longer though), so I keep mine just-in-case we need to perform emergency maintainance. I turn it on every once in a while but I don't do much programming on it any more because, well, it is so slow and has such a tiny screen :-)"
It is SCARY how much ex amigans there exists just behind the corner, people that are "lureable" back to Amiga. I hope there soon is something to come back to. ;-)

Back to 1990 an A3000 with a 68030 at 25 Mhz was a high end machine, some people got the early 16 Mhz version. There was these two versions + the A3000UX that came with AT&T Unix System V Release 4.
I guess it is a bit slow for compilers :)

Slander - 1) defamation; calumny 2) a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report. 3) law. defamation by oral utterance rather than by writing, pictures, etc. 4) to utter slander concerning; defame 5) to utter or circulate slander
calumny - a false and malious statement designed to injure the reputation of someone or something.
We all know this has been going on in regards to myself, for a number of years.
It's also clear as to the why being in effort to steal value from me.

Just making a comment about people who like to rattle other people's cages. Marc was one of them. Brecht's message just reminded me of him for some reason (not that Brecht is like Marc, just his reference to the "voice of Europe", or whatever, how some people become legends in their own mind, and that was the case with this guy I'm referring too).
It is quite obviously an off-topic post, which is bad I admit.

Mat Dillon (to get on-topic here) is a wicked programmer, and he has done several things for the Amiga. As a programer I always admired him. It would be interesting to see if he could be tempted with a new Amiga?

There was a time when I considered hacking csh to do the VIC, as the source code
is available. It took a while for me to get a compiler and source version to match
as it went from lattice to manx and back to SAS (lattice) with the source requiring
a given verions of the compiler... etc..
The source csh eventually ended up in the hands of Urban Miller (?) of Aminet or to
another guy from Urban (sp?).
Today I still consider it a reasonable option for hacking the VIC for the
established C= Amiga line, but otherwise a language like Python shows far more
potential.
As to darklite, I'd like to know why he'd suggest that I post using others names.

Hmmm, even Christian Kemp has expressed his dislike of me. So I'll say this site archives, if there are any, are not to be trusted. Yeah, I looked for the mindspring tired of dealing with researching false complaints against me (at tech rate of $20 and hour and income from me of $14.95 a month --- blue ribbon free speech flew out the Tech room window, not to mention they didn't like someone hacking their ticketing bot to hide who was complaining as they then tried w/o success to make it look like me complaining about me - Sound familar to recent forgeries on usenet? But the mindspring usenet posting ban happened years ago..)
Anyway I looked but could not find the ann story of "Tim Rue was ban from posting to usenet" rah rah article.
For those who want to know who I am... and I'm still at mindspring.com, use google to find me and my url.
Imagine that, Matt Dillion a FreeBSD kernel hacker!!!! I'd be interesting to see what has become of the many and various programmers of the C= Amiga. Besides the most well known one of Urban Muller (sp?) of Aminet.

Have you really read what he has to say? I know he has a rather unique way of presenting his case (a bit hard to read), but again he did not post in this thread before others posted slanderous remarks about him. You do not have to like the man, but people have no right to bash him all the time either. For some people it seems to be quite okay to fool around with his name these days.
I am beginning to think that those people who feel Tim has been trolling have become quite the trolls themselves. At least Tim makes the effort to present his case with thorough postings (whether you get their point or not is quite irrelevant in this regard), and those who just keep playing him as a joke and a constant troll are even worse offenders than they could have ever felt Tim was.
The sad thing is, ordinary people - without usually even taking the time to read what the guy has had to say - have somehow gotten into their heads that it is okay to bash him. They may even respect netiquette otherwise and promote good manners in forums and such, but they look the other way when Tim gets some unwanted attention, even perhaps contributing some.
It is sad.

TIMBO RUE!!!! MY *OLDEST* sparring partner!!!!
Can someone explain to me why a QUESTION is slander?
"Is Shawn Tim Rue?"
I believe also Tim, in one thread ( Ill find it later if you dispute it ) you claimed that 3seas with the same ISP as you are using above was not you. Why? I thought you were not afraid of standing up for who you are.
Tim is right, people post about him knowing NOTHING about who he is, there is however an answer: use the old Deja service to search through the publically available archives, theres enough of Tim on there to allow you to build up a great picture.
I dont remember a post about you being kicked off USENET, I didnt even think that was possible...

**** OFF TOPIC ****
I remember Marc, Cooksey and Rue and their different ways of approaching. I also remember quite a few others there where not so consistent in what they called themselves.
I think Gary Peake ( whom I admire enormously ) would have three things to say about Tim accusing others of slander ( Im sure some have slandered him ): "Pot, kettle, black". However if you have been flamed as often as Tim has ( or even have flamed as often as Tim has ) then it becomes hard to not jump at shadows.
Considering this is bartop talk, we probably need an extra forum or something to shoot the breeze and revisit old memories of these great characters.
**** ON TOPIC ****
I bought DICE at full price, good package but when PPC came out and there was no sign of PPC compiler modules I went straight to GCC.
Matt was always a good programmer, really focussed and its good to hear about what he is up to now. I really wish he hadnt said what he did about his A3000, but not all of us are stupid enough to upgrade them so they work as well as a 3 year old Windows based PC ;-)
Roll on the new Amiga economy of internal competition of motherboards, operating systems et al. At least it sounds like the Amiga ethos is still something worth fighting over.

There is a lot of programmers out there that have still an amiga somewhere just to keep track of their old projects. Before 1 year i did a hardware&software project for my company but due to lack of getting new miggys and accel the project had to move to micro-atx pc :-(
Due to the wide availability on the pc of utilitys for custom projects it is a plus for this platform. But the amiga has an elegant OS,quick boottime, low resources demand for os, and a little redesign on the a1200 could bring the ami back to custom projects.Do you remember mick tinkers attempt to build an amiga on the size of 5 1/4 drive aprox.Imagine what devices could you create!!!!!

That wasn't an "attempt". It actually went into production. I don't
know how many were sold.
One of his hopes with the BoXeR technology was to make an Amiga clone
that would fit in a 3 1/2" drive bay. And of course one to fit on a
PCI card.
It is a great pity that project failed.

In reply to Comment 1 (Anonymous):
Actually, all Amigas I've tried (including my own A1200PPC) are too slow for my liking today. There was a time when they were decent though, and I guess that's part of the reason why I still stick with them. I still remember how nicely Civilization ran on my A500 with expanded chip ram, extra fast ram, and a harddrive. Those were the good times. Then applications and games grew, and my miggy just never could keep the same pace with the new software.
As for PC's: I've yet to be impressed by the speed of any of them. I know that their hardware is WAY faster than anything I've got or can get for my miggy, but I can't help feeling that their performance is very weak compared to what that hardware should be capable of. To give just a small example: I'm currently typing this on a 300MHz Pentium with at least 64 (actually, I think it is 96) Mb of ram. Not a fast computer by today's standards, but it should still be faster than my miggy. Yesterday I took a retro trip playing the ancient classic Monkey Island on this machine. It ran quite wonderfully, until at one point, the disk started working intensely, and speed dropped to a ridiculous pace. This continued for several minutes, making the game unplayable. Monkey Island ran smoothly on my A500.
Okay, maybe that's a very special example, but this kind of annoying things seem to happen far too often when I use Wintel machines.
So I'm not happy with any computers I can buy today. I'm sticking with my Amiga because it's the least painful to use. I just really hope someone release some decent hardware for it soon. It would be nice to have a computer that runs modern software the way software ran on my A500.

Compiling as much needs solid power as rendering, just integer, not floating point, don't you think?
"In that case it is true until you add a powerpc to an Amiga"
Do you mean the 200MHz 604's? Regarding rendering, your statement is not true.
