Anyone know a store that sells PowerPC CPUs?
I'm afraid we will be charge more for the CPUs than they really cost.

Maybe so, but my Blizzard 2060 Accellerator cost over AU$1,100!
The A1 Board is to be leagues faster than THAT, and THAT was in
1996 Dollars!
The 2060 didn't have PCI and USB either!!

Arg!! Please no BGA 256 socket....BGA sockets are for testing purposes only!!
I've got a BGA socket right next to me to test an ASIC. In order to make proper contact (and be sure that it still makes contact after some months, we had to choose one which you screw the ASIC very tight. This socket costs about 450 EURO. If you choose a less quality one then be sure that you run into trouble when you unlocked t a couple of times. And even a less quality (cheaper) one still costs about 75-100 EURO. I suggest that They use that extra money to solder a 733Mhz G3 on it.
BTW, the 1 GHz 750 FX uses a 292 pin BGA housing so you can't use that one anyway. The G4 uses IIRC a 360 BGA housing so that on is out of order too....

Shouldn't compare pricing to the iMac - the iMac doesn't allow much
expansion!
Compare an EXPANDED A1 to a simularly equiped Mac Tower model!!
