"cOrpse" noticed that the Eyetech front page was updated, "it now includes an Amiga ONE series computers section. The dev boards £315 ex vat and £370.13 inc , does this mean the final board is going to be around 410 for us u.k peeps?"

It should be around £410 in the UK. The £350 has always been quoted
as without local sales tax (which would be VAT for us brits) and
shipping. Even at this price it works out nicely, a rough value for a
complete system would be around £800 inc. monitor, keyboard, mice,
OS4, GFX card, HDD, Floppy, ATX Case etc. etc. Which compares quite
nicely to other PPC systems of a similar spec (iMac).
===DISCLAIMER====
These figures are based upon me looking up prices on the web, not from
Eyetech in any way shape or form.

Cheers,
Andy

SO eyetech buys the motherboard from the same people that make the exact same board for the mac or close to it. In any case the end result is that both motherboards are the same . This then leads to only one conculsion ,Its a mac clone.

So if you have a Linux runing on a board that can be used for Windows, is it
then a Microsoft clone?

I have said this earlier and i say it again now. PPC is not same as Apple or MAC. Apple is not onlyone who uses PPCCPU's. Apple is not Motorolas or IBMs biggest customer. So if Amigaone has PPC CPU it doea not make it a MAC. And If you hace followed the news then you should know it's not exactly the same board used for anything else but AmigaOne. So there is no point in your post.

What i wonder is, will MacOSX work on these boards? Darwin should be doable i suppose, considering it's open source (iirc)
Also, the pricing of the board is reasonable, it might be expensive for some people (those who have to buy almost everything new) but i'll get one ASAP :)
Has there been any news lately coming from Pegasos? I don't recall seeing any news on this for the last week or two
I can't wait to get my hands on it (the A1 that is) :)

And what exactly, where your thoughts when both the Apple and Amiga shared the very same 68k series of chips? I don't see any difference in the comparison of Macs N' Amigas now to what they were 10 years ago.
Some people just complain for the sake of complaining I think!

Then you recall incorrectly.
MacOS X is NOT open source.
Parts of it are, but the OS itself is most definitly NOT.

I tought darwin (the underlaying OS layer) was open source, i know that Aqua isn't.
You can download darwin for x86 eg, and it's based on *BSD.
*If* darwin is open source, it can be made to run on any PPC board, however, the main problem would be Aqua
Anyway, if it is possible, we'll find out soon enough, an A1 is pretty cheap, and has PCI slots, so it could be interresting for people who need to use MacOSX. (If you want an expandable mac you need one of those G4 towers, and they are expensive)
Personally, i'll be running AOS tho :)

AFAIK there are core parts of OS X in darwin that aren't in the free version. I don't think it's open source either.
To run mac stuff on the A1G3SE, you have these options:
1. Run linux on the A1, run MacOnLinux on linux :) This is only OS9 stuff though (IIRC).
2. iFusion might actually be useful now (!!) to run on top of AOS4.

But.....
/irony on
Surely if we can run any mac apps or dual boot into MacOS, AmigaOS is doomed because it simply cannot compete at this stage and needs to be isolated blah blah blah.... Why port a mac app if you can run it on MacOS.
;o)
/irony off

Wouldn't Apple try to do "bad things" if MaxOS did run on the A1? Seeing as they closed the Mac clone business down a long time back.

Hmmm, maybe ANN could have a user account system that existed solely so that people can register their posting handle, so that other people cannot enter it in without the correct password, so all posts from "cOrpse" would be guaranteed to come from "cOrpse", not from anonymous person callinging thenselves "cOrpse" to troll on the board..

Shawn, you utter twit, you could at least stick to your "Bill"
alter ego instead of trying to hijack cOrpse's name. Your
IP number gives you away every time. That and your broken-
record posts. I guess you figured out how to use the function
keys and have assigned your stock replies to them, so every
time an AmigaOne-related article comes up, you just hit F1.
Saves time, I suppose....
