Hey.
Well, I like the 31Khz boot menu. Real bitch when you don't have a monitor that supports that mode. It would be nice if we could set it to permanently stay in 31Khz, but that's okay. I like the new shell functionality, good job there. But what takes the cake is the Reaction GUI for the calculator! :)

I've been using execute command and the new feature where the up and down arrows scroll through the command history. Very useful.
Also programs seem to open faster.

What do you mean with "KS44.1 executive"?
I hope that KS has executive-like features... now there's a patch(ok ok, hack :) that should be included in AOS.

should be KickStart 44.1 ( piru ) , and Executive ( the scheduler ) . Mix this
with boing bag 2 and my system is rocking :)

Talking about Executive... didn't the author seize his Amiga stuff a long time ago? I guess it isn't possible to register Executive anymore :/ In an ideal world, he'd release the sources to this fine piece of software.

SPOILER - For those of you who prefer their Boing Bags to be a
surprise, don't read this post. It's a slightly trimmed version of the
BB2 Readme Amigaguide:
Contents of BB2:
The new ROM Update
This Boing Bag contains a new version of the AmigaOS ROM Update. Apart from the
previously mentioned new Shell, it contains a bug fixed and updated Exec
multitasking kernel, a boot menu that supports monitors that no longer support
15KHz modes, as well as improved drivers for IDE harddisks connected to the
internal Amiga IDE controller. The new IDE driver should now recognize
additional IDE harddisks correctly.
Note: We cannot guarantee that the ROM Update works properly on each hardware
and software configuration that can run AmigaOS 3.9 with Boing Bag 3.9-2. Thus
we have only provided limited warranty and limited support for the ROM Update:
If it doesn't run on your system, please use the ROM Update supplied on the
AmigaOS 3.9 CD or do not use the ROM Update at all. You might also try skipping
certain parts of the ROM Update by using SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES. Amiga Inc. and
HAAGE&PARTNER are not obligated to ensure that the ROM Update works on your
system.
Harddisk support
Support for harddisks larger than 4GB has been completed: Support for some big
drives has been enhanced - reading their geometry data should now work. DiskCopy
now also supports big harddisks. All other parts of AmigaOS 3.9 - including
device driver, file system and formatting utilitiy - already had support for
large harddisks before.
HDToolBox now hides additional unsuitable devices and provides the means of
adding further devicenames to hide via its new icon tooltype or shell argument
HIDEDEVICES.

This Boing Ball is really nice!
The smoothest install I've ever had (except the other boing balls that is...)
Everything works perfectly here on my A4000/060. First time I've ever used
ClassAction - and I like it! This URL-function in 'execute command' is pretty
cool although the command buffer is perhaps something more useful in day to day
work...
I'm not sure if the increased 'snappiness' of Workbench is for real or just
a psycological effect, but even if it is just placebo, i'm all for it.
Oh, I haven't checked out that new boot-menu yet. Got to reset and take a look...!

it should :) , everything pops up at light speed on me olde 040 , and
divx5 seems to play nicely on the ppc :) . Oh and class action RAWKS !!
Use it with FTP Mount and its the badass ftp client from hell :).
Time to try out the rom update , see if that does nething :)

Machine won't boot with the romupdate enabled *with* blizkick and
bppcfix + speedyide as modules only.
I really want to keep the bppcfix, but since its still fresh maybe Piru
will come with some solution later, as romupdatesplit gave me 4 'unknown' files
unknown.3 27824 ----rwed Today 22:55:18 shell 45.7 (13.01.2002)
unknown.2 19408 ----rwed Today 22:55:18 syscheck
unknown.1 17308 ----rwed Today 22:55:18 exec 45.20 (6.1.2002)
unknown 17264 ----rwed Today 22:55:18 exec 45.20 (6.1.2002)
or maybe its safe to just add these files as modules to blizkick ? :)

I use another BPPC fix module from aminet ( RM something i think ... ) ,
one included didn't used to kill out the ppc lib on my blizzard and
that one worked a treat , maybe that will work with the Rom update?
I'll have to have a go later , dunno what cool stuffs in the rom update tho
but the rest of the BB is wicked :)

Just tried with no blizkick at all, and same result, just a black screen
after setpatch rebooted.
Any1 else with a1200+blizzard and been able to boot with the new rom update ?
Seems these blizzard board are making trouble, no ifusion and maybe os4 won't
run at them...
I have a mediator too btw, but uses bvision gfx card..

In reply to Comment 13 (catohagen):
I've just installed the Boing Bag in my A1200 with Blizzard1260, and it works just great. I didn't take any special precautions (I already have a good WB backup), just clicked Install. I already had SKIPROMUPDATES scsi.device set in my Startup Sequence, since I have IDEFix installed, and the installer DID NOT mess up my Startup Sequence at all. The system came up after a warm reboot with no problems, although I'm still seeing VincEd instead of the new shell. Perhaps a cold reboot is necessary. I'll try it tonight.
By the way, when I tried to download the Boing Bag from haage-partner.com, I couldn't access the file via IBrowse (I usually do http downloads, and they usually work), but when I used SiimpleFTP, the download was quite fast. Perhaps some people who have reported problems with the download process might try an FTP client instead of a browser. Anyway, it worked for me.
This update was very satisfactory, and I haven't even tried out all its features yet!

Ok, been burrowing through the archive, and can't for the life of me
find the updated sound.datatype with AHI support anywhere in the
Boing Bag files ... was it actually included?

OK, scrub that - a reset seems to have made it appear in the latest
version. Aha, that'll be Class Action not updating its listers like
DOpus does, I s'pose.

A nice new feature is the Find menu for the text datatype too. I guess
all these little tweaks and adjustments will make it to OS4.0,
which'll be nice.

Biggest nightmare I have ever seen. Installed fine on my a3000, then could
not access the Picasso IV board..despite many reboots, rebooting from floppy, etc.
Finally tried to reboot under wb3.1 and it would not access the Picasso.
After a cold boot I can now get back to 3.1, but cannot get 3.9 with boingbag2
2 boot. Many gurus, mount keeps crashing. What a disgusting mess.
Sorry, but 3.9 has bugs, 3.9 boing1 has bugs and so does 3.9 boing 2.
Once again a faithful and long time (since 1985) is left to wither away with
more problems. Big disappointment as was 3.5 and 3.9. I keep hoping
sigh

Yep, I'm in the same boat too...
I removed the QUIET argument from Blizkick and tried to boot with the "unknown"
modules. Weirdest thing was that SpeedyIDE was failing (and yes I did increase
the EXTRESBUFFERS as they failed at first) probably due to the new filesystem.
I removed SpeedyIDE for a test and had no luck booting with Exec45.20, the shell
isn't anything I needed as I use ViNCed customised, and I noticed no change by
using "syscheck"...
I simply reverted back to my old config with Exec44.1, perhaps Piru will have a
fix soon.

Are you sure you're not running any nasty hacks/commodities in the background? The install was flawless for me but I don't run too many hacks. Have you tried installing on a fresh partition?

Simple - it means if you're using anything outside of the standard hardware and software all bets are off. Obviously they can't warrant the release for every permutation of hack job out there.

I have an A4000/060 w/o PPC or graphics card. Perhaps there are problems if
you have a more expanded computer. I sure haven't had any problems with

Job done !
Installed BB2 last night, had a bit of a play (the calculator is still a bit duff though - when do we get one with more functions ?) all very nice. not looked at everything yet, but I have two gripes:
1) when I ran setpatch to look at the patch list (as described in the readme guide) it came up with a checksum error !
2) as suggested, I didnt install the rom update as I have an IDEFix board,
but my 20GB Maxtor now only reads as 7.8 GB! I thought we got rid of that with NSD in 3.5/9 !! any suggestions ?
All in all though, a good effort !

I think Executive is great. Shame the author has disappeared, as the full version would be nice... Are you saying the full ver is in OS3.9BB2?
Does anyone know if OS4.0 will have a dynamic priority scheduler, or will we have to go back to fixed priorities?

I found that ARCalc is a very good calculator. I think it should be on Aminet.
As for your HDD, if the IDEFix program does not patch scsi.device or use it's own 64bit replacement you need the updated scsi.device from OS3.5/9. You'll probably also need the updated FFS if you are still using that.

Installation went smooth for me but for some reason now I can not telnet
to my job or any other telnet server that uses ANSI by default (at least that is what I think the problem is because non-ansi sites work fine) It isn't even one specific Telnet program.. it's all of them.. as soon as the ANSI hits.. BAM!! Amiga locks COMPLETELY! The only way to fix the problem is to reinstall BB1 again. I've emailed 3.9 Tech Support.. let's see what they say.. Anyone else have this problem? I have an A4000D with a MKIII/060/80MB RAM, Hydra Ethernet card v1.2, Wavetools 16-bit sound card, CV3D/Scandoubler Module and I am using original A4000 IDE controller.

Could this problem be related to the new shell perhaps?...
Depends on how the program is accessing the ANSI colours..
Well, it's probably not the cause..

Mike,
Thanks for suggestion, but I am running a very standard a3000 with several
harddrives and 18meg ofmemory. No hacks. 3.9-2 boing bag is unusable. If
I go back to the 3.9 rom update, it will sometimes boot, but something still
crashes. I think I managed to get it running 2 to 3 times in over 8hours of
of trying various things. When it did run, all of a sudden Miami no longer
can access my internet provider. Worked fine under 3.9 boing 1? Go figure.
I reiterate another let down. I have been waiting since 1991 when I bought
my a3000 which I like verymuch for somebody to write for it. I have been
hoping like everyone else for new amigas with a real browser....I am beginning
to become disenchanted.
MS dos just say no!

After several posting in the Amiga hardware newsgroup.
We have found the problem (sort of) and the fix.
Apparently there is a new sound.datatype that comes with
BB2. The problem isn't a display or ANSI issue, it is a sound issue.
If your "make sound" is checked for alerts with BB2 and you are using the
default sound (not using an alternate sample) your system WILL HANG when
there is an alert. Right now the workaround is to either disable this alert
