This might not relate to the Amiga too much, but I guess it is an important topic nevertheless, since we've clearly seen enough companies abuse the market because of the patents they hold and the dominance these patents afford(ed) them.
The only bad thing is that I would hate to migrate my entire MP3 collection over to a different standard :)
That, and ever since my own "UnitedOS" petition way back in time (1997?), I don't believe in petitions too much anymore.

Well IIRC there are ogg vorbis players in developement for the Amiga, so i don't see a propblem with it being 'Amiga news'. But of course, your the boss:-)

That's what I thought... and it's not really a 'provocative' item ;)

While there are OggVorbis players for most platforms, this is not the same as having the codec embedded into your hardware, so the petition has a valid point.
The only problem I see is that the companies producing rival codecs might start to invest money in making sure OggVorbis codecs are NOT used in the same soundcards their codecs are used in, which would not be a good thing.

I don't remember any significant details. :-/
It must have been in 1995 or 1996 when Amiga was heading, once more, in multiple directions (as far as I remember, Phase5's PowerUp being one of them) that I created a web page to try and get the various companies to realize how much of a problem they were causing by fragmenting the market.
There must have been around a thousand signatures, not bad considering this was in the very early days of Amiga presence on the Internet (I was still connecting with AmiTCP at that time).
I'm not sure if I have the page backed up somewhere.
