Wow, surprising... I just hope this doesn't mean the end of development of this good (excellent ?) software. I cross my fingers for its future...

Maybe this means the source code can be made public?

I think the development already ceased a few years ago.

Is this easy enough for a novice? Or is a novice better off using AHI-record?

Samplitude is medium hard to learn. The keyboard short cuts are
important.
It's great strength is the very clear display of the sample, with
vertical and horizontal zoom.
It doesn't support AHI. On Amithlon, it works with the Paula
emulation. A fast hard drive is desirable.

No AHI support in a modern professional looking application is a bit of a let down.
At least it works on Amithlon as reported.

yes, it's really odd that there's no AHI support.
But doesn't Samplitude have a driver system of it's own? Isn't it possible to write an AHI driver?

I think the reason for the lack of AHI is that Marc was working on
something better than AHI, called ARTAS. Then development on ARTAS
stopped.

In reply to Comment 8 (Budda):
I believe no AHI support was done for a reason. If you recall ACT originally had a type of sound layer similar to AHI (ARTAS iirc) but instead of doing a retargeting of audio it was to do a "shanghai" of the audio allowing all programs that didn't support RTA to work on the more expensive sound cards. On top of that, their sound system wasn't a replacement to AHI but an enhancement of what you could find in AHI. (I'm sure Marc would have a better explination but that's it in a nut shell). The original intention of their efforts was to have it included with OS3.5 et al but lack of interest from the parent company (a.k.a. Gateway) turned ACT shy to the offering which led to proposed pending litigations. With lack of support from the parent company and lack of sales on their products such as SamplitudeOpus, ACT pulled quite a bit of their efforts out of the Amiga development. This is the first I've seen of their efforts in over 2 years with Samplitude, hopefully they are willing to look at what Amiga is doing with their efforts. SamplitudeOpus is a real gem and has helped me rebuild horrid sound samples as well as clean up the pops in some MP3s. So the lack of AHI for a professional quality product shouldn't be blamed by the creator of the software, rather point the blame directly at Gateway for their lack of proper efforts to support the development community.
<rant>
When Gateway had the Amiga, they didn't do anything for the developers, only hope to recoop any of the installed user base. Now that Amiga is their own entity and that Amiga is trying to do something for the developers willing to participate some of the installed userbase complains about their efforts.
</rant>
Hope that answers your ... question?

If there is no AHI, will I be unable to use this with my Delfina sound card? I am
definatley not a expert in sound, I'd just like to be able to be able to grab some
music with the input on my Delfina sound card and maybe clean it up a bit(grabbing
sound off a record player).

I downloaded the file Samplitude and I am not able to enter the code. I get the
about window, yet every time I click in it, it goes away??
So, how does one go about entering the code?

I've used this program on my Amiga 4000/060 and it is really A pleasure to use. I've been using cool edit pro on my windoze 2000 machine for awhile now and I really miss Samplitude opus on my amiga. Samplitude used with octamed is still my favorite way to write music hands down.

There is a version of Samplitude for Windows which does a lot more
than the Amiga version - but it's expensive.
The last thing to be added to Amiga Samplitude was a facilty for
making CDs from vinyl. This part is still buggy, but works well if you
click exactly the right buttons.
TO MAKE A CD WITH SAMPLITUDE
1. Mark out the tracks by making ranges and clicking on "Create CD Track/Index" button. This must be done in the correct track order.
2. Save an AIFF-CD file to disk.
3. Go to "SCSI Read-Write" (file menu).
4. Set up the Config for Reading and writing.
5. Click on "Write AIFF-CD Image". You should get an error message. Click on OK.
6. Now a new panel appears. On this, select the AIFF file that you just wrote.
7. Click on "GO! - Write CD"
8. After a pause, the CD will be written, at maximum speed.
You can alternatively use the AIFF-CD file in MakeCD.

Supported sound cards:
Draco
Toccata
Prelude
Concierto
Maestro Pro
If your card has a Toccata emulation library, it may work. Otherwise,
record with some other program (such as Audio Evolution) and use
Samplitude as an editor and processor of the sound files. You can
monitor via the Paula output. Maybe the AHI utility Nulle Puh (grabs
the Paula output) might work, as the Amithlon version of it does.

Hi Don!
Maybe it is possible to write a toccata.libray
emulation which is an interface for AHI, this
would be a good solution to the problem.
I don't know the technical side of AHI exactly,
so I can't say if that is possible or not.

I use samplitude all the time with my Repulse. At the moment its virtual memory is more stable the SoundFX (but I'm hoping the next version of SoundFX out soon will change this). Also, I find Samplitude a little easier to use for 'quick' jobs like normalising and putting fade-ins and fade-outs at the beginning and ends of songs, whereas SoundFX is more complicated, and takes more time, but is more powerful and versatile.
Anyway, I've made a little wire that takes the Paula audio from the output jacks of my Amiga and connects to one of the (many) audio-ins on the Repulse (either the ones on the backplate of the card, or the 'internal' ones on the card circuit board will work). This way, I can hear the Paula audio through my Repluse (don't need two sets of speakers, as ALL Amiga audio now exits the computer through a single output on the back of the Repulse).
It's a lo-fi 8-bit solution, but it's perfectly fine for just simple monitoring of the audio signal. The programme still loads/saves the file in full 16-bit resolution.

That would be great, especially with the Repulse. The toccata.library
included with that card doesn't record, unfortunately (yet).
For some reason I'm only getting even channels to play with
Samplitude, which is odd as the demo worked fine - however, that was
with my old Prelude 1200, which was integrated into Samplitude. More
testing required...

That suggests that you already have a "Samplitude.defs" prefs file. If
so, try renaming it.
Then you should see the registration requester, and if you saved the
