There were some other PPC demos too (Scenic+Encore, Creative Minds (PUP), MadWizards) so it looks like we are going to see more PPC demos later on too.

TBL won the demo compo ("Little Nell"). Tribute by Scarab was second and third place went to Creative Minds. It seems that people on the scene still prefers 68k demos more (when analyzing the votes).

I didn't see Mad Wizards second demo as their Amiga wen't to flames and could not been seen during the compo. They showed it later on, but I was sleeping. There were far too many PC-demos and it was the last night of the party so it's no surprise I passed out ;)

Check the Results!"

You could check the demos (for download) from ftp.scene.org, but I warn you.. it's full almost all the time.
At least you can get the Reason demo (7th) from http://www.reason.tk/.

I couldnt get the Potion PPC intro to run on my Amiga (PPC175/040 with Voodoo3/SB128) so I cant comment on it.
What I can say though is that the Loonies 64kb is fantastic - a 1x1 3d engine in just 30kb that runs smoothly even on my 040/25. Incredible... it just goes to show how talented Amiga coders are. Actually all the Amiga entries were of a very high standard.
Now I'm looking forward to asm later in the year - I'll definitely be there (and we'll hopefully be releasing our first PPC/Warp3D Amiga demo, and maybe also this PSX demo which I've been sitting on for the last 2 years but never got around to releasing :)

I saw in the results that potion got more than 700 votes. They must have kicked SERIOUS ASS again. Damn, i wish somebody with a PPC could make a video from it.
Anyone out there interested and able to do that?
Oh, what was so special about the potion intro. Tell us some more (3D/2D)

Design..very "electro" :D It was divided into 2 parts, the first being more 3d and the latter 2d. Some heavy effects on 3d side and fast too (that "tunnel" part in the basement-like place was just amazing fast). The second part also had superb music, with synthesized speeches (something like the old Amiga speech generator, but tons of better of course ;).
The music (what I heard) was actually about 10Mb big.

Yes, "Planet Potion" rocks da house. THIS was a really great demo.
But it will not run on my Amiga 4000 (CSPPC+CVPPC). :(

Sadly Darkage didn't enter the intro compo. It's really a pity, because I saw Modem's new 64k intro and it rocks!!1

It was PPC but not Warp3D. Actually, using Hardware acceleration for 3D stuff (in scene productions anyway) is quite lame and doesn't show off any skills of the coder.

It DOES require Warp3D, look at the readme or inside the exe ;) (haven't been able to run it myself)

Has anyone at all got the potion 64k to run ? I havent yet a single person so far who says it works. It certainly doesnt work here on my bppc175/voodoo3/warp3d 4.2. And, neither does the Scenic demo although i do have stormmesa installed too. it just gives a black intuition screen....

Wow! I've only been able to check out some of the smaller demos (curse you 56k modem!, why can't there be more 4k and 64k stuff ;) and it is all excellent.

It works fine here, no problems. My setup: A1200T, BVisionPPC, 240/060, 128MB, Delfina Lite, OS3.9 (BB2) + something irrelevant.
Perhaps there will be a fix in a near future..

hmm... we noticed some problems on voodoo-equiped machines before we released "kheshkhash" at mekka. The coder only has bvision himself - so we were not able to test it any earlier.
Have any of you Bvision/Cvision-owners had any problems ?

Hi fusco!
Yeah, I had some minor problems (check my setup above) with your demo. The part where the scene was going backround (somewhere quite end) and the statue-like creatures coming in regular periods.. the head of a chinese man just didn't fade away and was looking quite weird (grey). I didn't remember seeing that on the bigscreen.. there were some other weirds things as well, but they didn't bother me. BUT I only run it once, so it could be just this time..dunno. But the GFX was just top notch! Keep 'em coming :-)

Potion guys CAN code (you have seen GIFT, right?) no question about that. This was mostly a design intro, nearly perfect one.

Hi fusko
I was really looking forward to seeing your demo :) On my A1200T with Voodoo3 2000, 128Mb, Soundblaster, Blizzard PPC 175+040/25, I can run the demo but when it starts it will open a screen but nothing happens. If I press the right mouse button then a little menu will appear with 'project/quit' option. I tried reinstalling Warp3D and StormMesa but it hasnt helped so far.. I will keep trying.
Cheers,
Lando^Trn

I agree, Potion coders aver very 'gifted' :)
And I also think theres absolutely nothing wrong with using PPC and/or Warp3D in democoding.
Where do you draw the line ? Do you say that all entries must run on an A500 with 512k RAM ? Or stock A1200 ? Or do you make the limit 030 cpu with 4Mb fastram? I think that if the compo machine is an A4000 with Cybervision and CyberStormPPC then you should make an effort to use all the abilities of that machine.
I agree that demos are about showing the skills of the coder to some extent but also 'use of the machine' - getting the most out of the hardware that is available to you. And, of course, design. Melon demos weren't techincally amazing but they had very good design.
I was probably more impressed with Psycho's 64k because it was a well-designed intro with a nice 1x1 engine that ran smoothly on a 040/25 and runs in 2 frames on an 060/50.

Once again, most groups (or was it the organisers ?) simply didn't write their demo requirements in a readme file.
So you have to download 50MB just to see which one can work on your system. Great.
TBL.. their demos are pure chunky and they still can't do an OpenScreenTagList() to render into so that it works on AGA AND graphic cards... :-((
Planet Potion.. simply impossible to watch it on a 040/25+603/210+BVision. It uses AHI. You need a 060. It doesn't care when you press the left mouse button. What I could see was not really pretty, but anyway I got around 0.0023 fps and a choppy sound. At least it didn't crash nor cut multitasking.. :]
I tried one or two other demos/intros.. AGA stuff.. so I could see nothing. I think both of them didn't react to mouse clicks either. Great.
I tried the CreateMinds/Demoskope thingy... ate around 40MB of ram, displayed "Wating..." in the shell... forever. Great. Finally, the elf exe crashed.
I stopped the disaster at that point.
Let's say that I am kind of disappointed... :-\
If someone can name a demo that actually works (under CGX), I'd be glad to hear about it :]
