Jens Schönfeld writes: The Commodore One project is close to completion. Now it's supported by professionals. Commodore One is a C-64 compatible computer with lots of added features that has been under development for more than a year now. The project is close to completion, and the first production run can be started within the next three months.

Individual Computers will support Jeri Ellsworth, the developer of the new computer, with money, sourcing of material and knowledge about small quantity production.

The new board will be distributed in Europe by individual Computers, so it will be available from all our trade partners mentioned on the contact page of Jens Schönfeld's website.

Jeri Ellsworth, the former owner of the "Computer made easy" stores, will sell all retrocomputing-related products from individual Computer's product line, such as the Retro Replay, the Catweasel floppy controller and the "Retro Replay plus Silversurfer" combination.

It will ship first too :)

This is GREAT news!! I'm actually more excited about this development then I am about the AmigaOne. (Go figure) I got to meet Jeri at AmiWest2001 and she was INCREDIBLE!!! I am very glad to see that a "real" company has offered to help her along with her machine! As soon as they start selling them I'm going to get one!! And I'm sure your correct Jools. This product WILL ship before the A1...

As a matter of interest, who actually owns the rights to the Commodore name and logo?

In reply to Comment 16 (Peter Gordon):
Well it's in contrast with all these Amiga companies, isn't it?
They say "Give us $100 for free updates, free OS 4, free everything"
and then they say "Um, no free updates, and OS 4 will be from a 3rd party so..."
Or they say "We will ship this special AmigaOne in the Summer" and then they say "Oh, we decided not to do that. How about next Summer instead?" and then "No, wait, we're going to make a completely different computer."
Or worst of all they talk about "a few months work" and then six months later have almost nothing to show for it.
I see crazed Amigans licking the boots of people who have achieved NOTHING, and praising them for running PowerPC Linux on... drum roll... a generic PPC motherboard. Sure, stick a Boing Ball on it and all will be forgiven, whatever.
I think the POINT was that some companies deliver, and therefore you can expect to actually buy a Commodore One, and probably before you can buy an A1.5 even though it was _supposed_ to be here over a year ago.

No.
"A1" is simply a specification. There is nothing stopping her from creating her own version of the "A1" spec should she want to. As such, she can do that wherever in the world she wants :-)
Besides, she seems more at ease with classics. As such, the A1 spec probably wouldn't be that interesting to her. She'd probably be more happy with producing enhanced Classic Amiga compatible hardware.

Eyetech generally seems to deliver, and so does Hyperion. AmigaInc. isn't
really involved now. Anyway, I already bought an A1-G3-SE, and unless the
factory explodes or the shipment gets lost or something, I should have it in
a month. So probably you are wrong.
However, I did quite enjoy the C64/C128 in some ways more than the Amiga, and
even sold some programs I wrote on them, so the CommodoreOne looks cool. But
maybe FrodoPPC on the Amiga is enough C64 for me now.

including a Copper.
Perhaps she could design an Amiga clone next. ;-)

That'd be a great idea, the floppy adapter'd be very useful I think.
If necessary the Paula chip could be user supplied and pushed into a socket on the card...
I have plenty of old Amiga's and I wouldn't mind pulling a Paula out of one of them to be able to use standard Amiga Floppies...

If you can make an Amiga floppy adapter for the A1 then I'd be VERY interested. I think if Eyetech/Bplan want to offer "the best possible clasic compatability" then the ability to read Amiga formatted disks (including ones with non-standard bootblocks) is a must.
Of course, not everyone wants to read Amiga formatted disks... but some of us do.

I did it awhile ago, maybe 2+ years ago. It's not that complex. The whole setup used a 6800 w/ a small FPGA to give an internal and external floppy port. Fit right onto an ISA card.

If you will bring it to us as an UNIVERSAL FLOPPY READER for PC, then I will buy one...
By the way...
If you want to let it became a killer Card for PC, or at least for every PCI bus on the scene you must realize:
PCI CARD with UNIVERSAL FLOPPY READER INTERFACE
And with
USB CONTROLLER
FIREWIRE PORTS
---Any further wish---
Maybe Ultrawide SCSI?
---end wish---
But if you integrate first two issues, then you will able to sell it everywhere in very big quantities...
...and on almost any platform worldwide...
But if you want to add the USB support, I think that you have to deal with (at least) the persons who made the Highway-subway (who have already USB Know-how) and join them to realize such this brand new (/and expected) card...

Raffaele

there's no point to adding firewire/usb to such a card as that's already included in the AmigaONE. And supporting every known OS for man is also ludicrus. This was just a "what if" question for amiga-folk only. And as it turned out an unnecessary one, as someone else is already plotting to release such a card for the A1. I'll continue to work on Eddas then.

And regarding such a card for the Amiga I was talking about...
I have understood you are talking about the Amiga and the compatibility of floppies on PC...
About Amiga 1SE? Do you think that 4 USB are sufficient?
1 for keyboard (*)
1 for mouse & Tablet (*) (with pass thru or at least 1 for mouse and 1 for tablet)
1 for printer & scanner (with pass thru or at least 1 for printer and 1 for scanner)
1 for modem
1 for memory stick & cards
1 for direct link to USB cameras
1 for USB Satellite box (I have already seen one on a newspaper)
1 for external HDs and CD writers (for Backup compatibility)
How many USB ports must a poor man had purchased of?
And to add something to the soup...
What do you think about these other hypotetical USB devices for the existing ports???
1 for Bluetooth
1 for new electronic pencils to write on electrical conducing paper
1 for new monitors, usb based
One people can plug in and out those occupied by printer & scanner, but in the long time...???
And if they are placed all in the rear of the cabinet???
A plug in, plug out nightmare...
Geeee... future people must genetically engineerize theirselves in order to let increase the numeber of spare arms and hands...
A computer user will look like Kali goddess...
I think that in the nearby future we will submerged by USB devices of all dimensions, wheight... and God only knows what...
I hope that pass-thru ports will help us as well as USB-HUB devices...
But in lack of this all (many USB devices come with only one port), a multi i/o card will be welcome...
Bye,
Raffaele
(*)Amiga 1SE comes with PS2 connectors for Mouse and Keyboard,
but soon their production will be discontinued due to the reorganization of all production on USB based devices only...
If we are lucky PS2 based devices will be produced to keep compatibility with eleder machines for a long time,
