No need to be sorry. This is a real milestone for the Amiga, it took a while, but now we know USB is working on a classic Amiga :)

nice to see that DCE uses Poseidon for the G-Rex, too !
Looks like a USB Standard for Amiga !?

No it`s not an USB-standard for Amiga - I think this will more be an USB-standard
for MorphOS.
The author of Poseidon is AFAIK a MorphOS-Beta-developer...
Nevertheless very nice work !
Btw, where is Mr. "Harald - noone wants my USB stack - Frank" these days ?

In reply to Comment 6 (Aachthor):
Although I'm a supporter of MorphOS and a "key developer", Poseidon was
made as an USB stack for ALL Amiga users. It was developed on a standard
A4000T/060 (no PPC) using Michael's excellent Highway and Subway USB cards.
Best regards
Chris Hodges

In reply to Comment 6 (Aachthor):
This is also the USB stack for the HIghway and Subway cards, so the software should exist for 68k Amigas. So it could be a standard, since all platforms are capable of running 68k software.

OS 4 will have its own USB stack but we are working with E3B to ensure that their excellent hardware is also supported under OS 4.
We are similarly working with other third parties regarding USB drivers.

Interesting how people will buy a USB interface for the same price or more
than a comlete X86 motherboard.
But hey I still want one these things.

Why don't you just licence Poseidon?
So we will again have two different stacks (one for OS4, the other one for
Highway/Subway/OS3.x, Pegasos/MorphOS and Amithlon) with different drivers...

Maybe because we only recently found out about this stack? Like a few days ago?
What am I supposed to say to our own developer (who is an extremely talented fellow): nice that you wrote us a USB stack, no, you won't get paid for it and no we won't be using it?
I don't think so.
Contrary to popular belief in the MorphOS camp, I never stab people in the back.
Besides, we need full source-code access for important OS components like this and this may or may not be a problem.

Well, he could concentrate on the AmigaOne on board USB support, exactly the
same way Frank does with Pegasos or Bernie with Amithlon I think.

Out of curiosity, if there any chance of using their software to run USB webcams on AmigaXL and Amithlon computers who have USB ports? We got the hardware here and no drivers!

Unlikely, as they will have written the drivers for a PCI USB card running through the GRex.
However, the other thread about the Poseidon USB stack mentions stuff about people developing for Amithlon, so I guess drivers will appear at some point.

Amithlon is fine and dandy, but I'm using AmigaXL any chance of that? Anyone know anything about USB on AmigaXL? As far as I know it can already use keyboards, mice and come USB printers, but some scanners, webcams and CD writers would be nice.

David, surely you know by now that this is the real Amiga-way: make incompatible to make it as hard as possible for the users - killing any chances of keeping somewhat of a unity. sigh :/

In reply to Comment 22 (Mathew):
I'm afraid that before you can get AmigaXL support you need QNX support, so the QNX newsgroups and forums is where you should address your question. When you have full QNX support for the hardware you want to use, then you need to talk to H&P and have them make that hardware accessible from AmigaXL.
Amiga drivers would be of no use whatsoever in this situation.

Actually, that's the "X-Phase5 peoples" way, and anyone associated with them... It has nothing to do with the true AmigaOS. I could care less about MOS for my own personal use, because that's not what I will be running. Besides, if the USB stacks are done properly, its the drivers that should matter/work on both, not the stack itself, right? Personally Darklite, I think the entire Amiga community is sick of hearing your PERSONAL jabs at Ben and Hyperion. You sound just like Ralph Schmidt when he use to frequent around. I lost respect for him and anything associated with him years ago for that very same kind of public insulting and "mudslinging"

Oh right, and that'll re-unite the Amithlon, MorphOS and OS4 userbases... why didn't I think of that?

It doesn't mean they shouldn't get paid for their work done so far.

This would be noch "backstabbing" but a strategic decision for the good of the Amiga market.
Chris' stack is for MOS, 68k AmigaOS, and Amithlon - why don't you join?
Don't split, but unite - many people would appreciate a cross-compatible standard.

More generally, does anyone think their continual public bitching will change anyone's minds, be they part of the AOS4 / MOS / Amithlon / AROS / PurpleMonkeyDishwasher teams - especially for the first versions (well, maybe apart from AROS where people can contribute)? If their product sucks, it will fail. Only the stupid would buy something that's crap - and why should that bother anyone (stupid people buying crap stuff)?
