Some interesting "news" items in the newest software hut newsletter, including:

-Elbox's SharkPPC may be the first OS 4 hardware solution
-According to Software Hut's "sources", the bplan "pegasos" hardware to run AmigaOS 4
Hello,

Welcome to the Software Hut newsletter. We have been getting a lot of calls on many of the new items coming out over the next 6 months and wanted to keep everyone up to date about them. First up is the Amiga One and OS 4.

AMIGA ONE

There has been a lot of inquiries for the Amiga One recently. Eyetech has said they will begin shipping the developer board soon. As of yet the developer board has not shipped. The developer board is only for those interested in developing and beta testing OS 4 and is intended for only the most technically savvy people. It is not even assured this board will work with the final release of OS 4 or other applications that will be running on the production models of the Amiga One. With that in mind and the fact that the Amiga One production board will be much different and still a number of months off we are not going to take pre-orders until the product is much closer to being released. Also additional cards and other add on boards many of our customers will want to add to their Amiga One will change in price and type by then. We realize everyone is very interested in this product but a preorder of something that may change before release or be delayed further does not help any of us out. More details to come as the product is closer to shipping.

OS 4/SHARK PPC

Another solution to run OS 4 is the Mediator/Shark PPC combination. The Mediator is a PCI expansion board that also will house the Shark G4 PPC card. This card is in development and is waiting for OS before being released. This combination may well be the first hardware available to run the new OS when released. We will be sure to keep everyone up to date as soon as we have a firm price and release date for the board and for the OS 4.
Please note we are currently shipping the Mediator board for all 1200 tower models, the 4000 Power Tower, 4000T and 3000T and 3000 desktop models. For details please visit:
http://www.softhut.com/

BPLAN

We have heard the Bplan board is getting closer to release also and will be able to run OS 4 according to our sources. As soon as more details and specs are available we will bring them to you.

SOFTWARE SALE

Our closeout and specials lists have been so well received we brought in another 1700 pieces of software and have redone and expanded our lists. Check out our lists which now cover 4 sections including Amiga Productivity Disk, Amiga productivity CD, Amiga disk Games and Amiga CD Games. Many titles are under $ 10.00. When you look back on the lists you will be amazed at how many titles were available for Amiga and how many we all fondly remember using and still use today for our computing needs. As always the best titles go fast so order early. To see all the titles please visit the following link:

TOASTSCAN AND MONITORS

We have just been told by the developer of the toastscan that the prototype is fully working with the toaster and all parts to build the production run have been sourced. We expect the first delivery to be in 3 to 4 weeks. Our thanks to everyone who has preordered and has waited patiently (probably more patiently than us), it looks like your wait is almost over.
Meanwhile the 17 inch off lease major brand monitors are almost sold out. There are only about 35 pieces left out of 400 we brought in so if you are interested in one please order soon. You can see details on our home page located at:
http://www.softhut.com/

USED/REFURBISHED ITEMS

Our always popular section for finding that hard to get board has been fully updated. Please visit:

Thank you for your time and support and we will make sure to keep everyone up to date on all the new developments over the coming months.

Sincerely,

Software Hut Inc.

According to Software Hut's "sources", the bplan "pegasos" hardware to run AmigaOS 4
bplan and morphos as well as pegasos annouced it themselves.
I talked to Petro so therfore I knew of this happening along time ago.
All in all this isnt news.

In reply to Comment 2 (Anonymous):
This directly contradicts what Eyetech themselves have said, which is
that the AmigaOne "developer" board is no different in any way from
the "final" production model. Normally Software Hut are OK but this
time their "sources" seem...wrong....

What a pile of contrived crap. This is not news. It's advertising. I'd suggest it's removed, aside from the fact that it is just plain advertising, it is obviously not factual. It sh1ts me when a supposed dealer can't even post something correct.

This is NEWS?!
Nothing like adding a lot of uncertainty from 3rd rate rumor mills. Way to go Software Hut...
...If only I could modify "Software Hut" to mean "Jabba the Babbling Rumor Pizza Hut" or something...
...sometimes I wonder if ANN is purposely trying to fan flames...

I think that is why "news" was in quotes. I hope it was irony ;-)

I thought it was worth discussion since the so called "news" seems contrary to the current situation on OS 4 and bplan and even AmigaOne developer boards.

I think all of us would consider this interesting stuff - it also makes me speculate that perhaps he is getting better margins on the SharkPPC than the A1.

Wouldnt the CyberstormPPC/BlizzardPPC systems be the first to run OS 4.0?

It would be interesting if Elbox managed to deliver the first G4 system...

Perhaps it would be better for a lot of people to stop playing the "I saw it ages ago so it's not news" game...
I found it a lot better to read than a lot of the cr4p that appears on these pages and since it wasn't Software hut who posted it, it can hardly be construed as advertising.
I don't mind reading (almost!) the same article with a different slant, it's better than nothing.

However, it's not very practical to have false "facts" on ANN, is it?

Yeah sure.
Don't buy Aones (we don't have some)
But buy Mediators (we have some) and OS 4 will run on it...
Super.

Cool not long to go now is it..
I didnt order one, but I'd be quite interested to hear how well the beta of OS 4.0 works. I'd also be very interested in seeing some screenshots! If anyone from Hyperion is reading this.... screenshots sometime would be cool. :)

So I suppose you (@ Hyperion) have Mediator Amiga with a *WORKING* SharkPPC? What about Prometheus and a "SharkPPC-Crescendo7200_Clone"???

Is Mr Yoris still involved with Hyperion, or was that a finished chapter? Would be good
to know in what role he comments here.

Look at your OS3.9 with Birdie and VisualPrefs installed.
Haven't Hyperion already said it's going to look exactly the same, with most of their work being done at a lower level? I can't see what this fascination with screenshots is. It's not like they are would be accurate measures of progress.

Since Ben Yoris only wites his name (and not, Ben Yoris/Hyperion) I don't think he represents Hyperion in any way. Atleast not in this comment.

Since OS4 is being developed for AmigaOne "and other boards"
I think it is safe to assume that OS4 will be ready AFTER
AmigaOne is "finalised". Therefore, SharkPPC can not be
the "first OS4 solution" since OS4 will not be finsalised
until after AmigaOne. Clear ?

In reply to Comment 19 (tinman):
I agree. Why not just look around on the net for different configurations of 3.1-3.9?
However, I think about now would be a good time to start a site for screenshots and themes. I have seen a lot of cool screenshots out there, but I have no idea how to configure all the 3rd part apps you need to get your system looking like that. Wouldn't it be cool if you could download a preconfigured theme off the net and have it working almost instantly? The site would have to either link to the needed tools or have a local copy, and every theme would have to come with a description that clearly states which tools are needed. And then people could start uploading their themes and get instant fame! :)
Oh, I rephrase:
I know how to use the tools to change the theme, but not being much of a graphical artist I seldom get that really snappy look ;)

This "press release" has just been discredited a little. See post from Eyetech above
( if that is genuine ).

This is correct !
I'm not paid by Hyperion, just helping them when/if I can when/if necessary.
So, I express my own opinion as soon as my name is Ben Yoris and not Ben Yoris/Hyperion.
Have a nice day and enjoy spring weather !

It's also a good way to be sure that people know when you represent yourself or Hyperion.

Btw: The so-called spring weather here in Denmark is not worth talking about, clouds and only 6-7 degrees Celcious :-(

I thought there were a couple of sites for this already. I know there is http://www.angelfire.com/amiga/overshaker/ but I think they only promote their own skins and things. I'm sure there have been other sites for tarting up your WB mentioned on ANN in the past though.

What a shame. Eyetech's cleared up Hut's motivation behind the post.
Can't develop anything themselves and are attempting to put spokes in the great
efforts that Eyetech has made to resurrect Amiga hardware.

What is the difference then between a board developed for Linux and a board developed for AmigaOS?
I mean Ive got PDFs of technical stuff from the company I work for on PPC, Power4 and other higher end
boards and apart from z/Series the OS is generally adapted to meet hardware needs not the other way around
(well almost, you do have general computing requirements ).
