It might be interesting to some that Dave Haynie signed a few comments (on ANN) as Dave Haynie, 4tel, Inc.. This is not really news, some might say, but then again today has been a slow day and there isn't much else to report on.

I changed the layout of the vertical navigation bar and pretty much the entire logo/ad/status display at the top.
What browser are you using?

As the comments here are not related to the orginal post, I think I can add one more off topic comment:
I really would like to know why my post untitled "New/Hidden feature in Workbench" as been removed. This is a non-Amiga style of doing things ! :(

I'm on MSIE6, without the slightest problem. I'm at 1280x1024, although the browser window probably mostly only takes up around 900px.

Oh, I never saw there was a forum ! I found the unmoderated section some kind of forum
anyway (as the off topic comments above shows) :))
Thanks.

Elwood, your thread is still here. Just moved in the Forum part of
ANN :)

In reply to Comment 9 (Nicolas Sallin):
There is probably some confusion as far as the unmoderated and forum categories are concerned, like which postings end up where, how moderation works on them, etc.
I'm planning to switch to unmoderated and forum categories turned off by default again, in which case unmoderated becomes strictly an open submission queue and *all* postings are moved into the other categories (or if that is not possible, removed altogether).

There is a bug with ANN, at least with IE6 (not had time to test netscape or opera). When you have posted and it comes up with the options to view flat or threaded mode, they don't work. You just get the post numbers at the top, and no content. It never used to do this with IE6 until quite recently so I assume something has been changed here.

Found out why, the category= is incorrect, it comes up blank as opposed to with the right category. Hope that helps.

Figures I avoided that inauspicious-looking thread. Just had a look now. I probably should be posting this down there instead, but we're off-topic anyhow. :)
I'm not sure how much this relates to anything discussed there (I could only parse some of "DaveW"'s objections to DH's comments), but IBM was the foundry for Cyrix (a division of IBM at one point? I can't remember..) and NexGen CPUs, back when Cyrix was still Cyrix and NexGen still existed.

http://www.sandpile.org/impl/pics/nexgen/nx5/nx5fp_top.jpg
http://www.sandpile.org/impl/nx6.htm
Apparently IBM also did the first run of Transmeta chips, before they went over to the problematic TSMC.
http://www.sandpile.org/impl/crusoe.htm
...So, there shouldn't be any question as to whether other chipmakers use their fabs.
Meanwhile, there was something out about a revised/renewed "Book E" treaty between Motorola and IBM a year or two ago, which got a sidelong glance in http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/archive/18691.html , though I can't find the initial article. (Yeah, it's a Tony Smith story..) IBM was thinking of producing a G4-class(?) CPU as of the initial agreement in 1999: http://www.eetimes.com/story/OEG19990507S0003
Of course, I have no idea how compatible the various PowerPCs really are with eachother... Is there anything that makes the G4 special *to code for* beyond the AltiVec unit?

Christian, why don't you just add an ANN forum devoted strictly to discussion of Dave Haynie? ;) I am sure lots of people what to know what he is up to, who he might be dating, and what he ate for breakfast and so on. ;)

Good point, in a way.
But I guess my excuse is that Dave (along with a few other people) was one of the "important people" when I first started ANN... persons who were remarkable because of their quality postings to Usenet. As such, it's only normal that I still value these people fairly highly, and am interested in whatever they are up to right now, or next.
[In case anyone's interested, other "important people" from these days long gone include Dr. Peter Kittel, Olaf Barthel, Jason Compton, and probably a number of other personalities I can't remember after too many pints of Cider tonight.]

Perhaps they should make a new Big Brother clone show in which we will be able to see all the Amiga celebrities locked in a lab or the old commodore HQ, 24hours per day for three months... ;) That would keep most of us happy...
Ahem...

Hallo Christian?
Why is the dot under the ANN logo in the upper left?
Why not use a transparent GIF or an " " here?!
Regards

Actually, if you look at the main page, you notice that there's a last-updated date under the logo, followed by a dot. On the other pages, it makes no sense to have a date there, so I removed that call, but kinda forgot about the dot. I didn't think anyone would notice. I'll update the scripts as soon as I feel better again. :)

They branched out of the norwegian telecompany Telenor (Stjelenor in local slang, stjele is the infinitive of "stealing" in norwegian, which kind of sums up their prices and customer policy ;) )
