[Motd] Unmoderated and Forum disabled by default | ANN.lu |
Posted on 22-Apr-2002 19:48 GMT by Christian Kemp | 13 comments View flat View list |
Starting April 21st, Unmoderated and Forum categories are no longer being displayed on ANN's main page by default, but need to be "opted in" - either by manually clicking on the relevant link, by changing your preferences and bookmarking the resulting page, or by saving the preferences in a cookie. What this also means is that you might need to manually review the Unmoderated and Forum sections before submitting any news to avoid double posts. Normally, postings that comply with posting guidelines are moved from Unmoderated to a more relevant category within a few hours. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation, and please let me know if you encounter any problems or need additional explanation or help.

Unmoderated and Forum disabled by default : Comment 1 of 13 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Anonymous on 23-Apr-2002 02:58 GMT | Why!!?? Let's make all Amiga users go through this hassle just to get it back to how it was before, ie. seeing all items? How inane. |

Posted by Rodney McDonell on 23-Apr-2002 06:09 GMT | Before the forum was put in, i actualy suggested it. When i did, and i dont know if thats when you first got the idea to impliment it or not, but i was under the impression that you wouldnt want a forum posted to the front page :)... Its a much beter way to do things! |

Now all we need is that Morphos news (and comments) go the same way.
Would be SO NICE if I could unselect Morphos news |

Unmoderated and Forum disabled by default : Comment 10 of 13 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Christian Kemp on 23-Apr-2002 18:58 GMT | In reply to Comment 8 (Troels Ersking): The only problem is that if I start categorizing that way, people will scream for more and more categories. First MorphOS, then AROS, then v3.9 vs 4.0, etc. And then, moderators would have to be very careful about category choices: where to put a hypothetical news posting of MorphOS/Pegasos running AROS, or whatever? |

I hate Hyperion as much as you hate the MorphOS crowd,
but I don't complain and sob like a queer if I happen
to read some news item related to them. Grow up you
efeminate little twat. |

the "news" I see would be halved overnight. |

I think you put too much faith in MorphOS. ;)
Actually Christian, i think you need to take a much more strict approach to moderation. Sure free speach is a nice thing, but when a few advocates of one OS or another do nothing but make inflamatory comments to people or outright lie and insult everyone simply for having an opinion, then it's time to cut a few posts. Even in democratic states there are laws against inciting riots and creating public disturbances. News about bPlan's hardware might be interesting considering that AmigaOS can be run on it if the open firmware bios can be flashed with the few amiga extentions. But, flamewars about how Hyperion are just ripping off the public, or how Amiga are lieing to us while doing just what the community asks, or how MorphOS is a real AmigaOS need to go. Registered user accounts will go a long way to curbing the mindless flamers even if it means more work for you getting a user system implemented (sorry).
Anyway, keep up the good work and thanx for a decient news site. :)
