Wow Ben, that's the closest I've seen to another server coming close the one weekend Amiga.org took part in the St. Louis show of 2001. I think it was somewhere into like 58GB of traffic for saturday and sunday alone. I know I don't have the official numbers but damn was that up there.
Cheers!

Nice idea to report this Ben. It's nice to see there is interest in 4.0
And I think there will be interest in 4.1 twice as much...

Do you know who the main referer was for most of them? A link must have posted on some non-Amiga news site to get that many hits.

Hmmm. Ben, you might consider this to be the thin end of the wedge. When you publish the shots of (say) OS4 with Matt Chaputs' Icons, new glyphs on the windows running on the A1G3SE, be afraid, be very afraid. The interest then will be huge.
;~)

Awesome! Hyperion will definately need to upgrade their server soon:-) These were the first screenshots, imagine the traffic when the final screenshots come out, let alone when OS4.0/AmigaOne starts shipping!
Ben, you do not want the server going down and potential customers getting pissed by "page not available".
Yeah I also remember Amiga.org being brought to it's knees and going down completely after Wayne had something like 200,000 unique visitors in well under 24 hours.

50,000 unique visitors, not bad at all. I'll note, I gave the URL to some friends who were curious what OS4 looked like. Pity, from the screenshots, it looks like you're still a year from release. (not saying you are, just saying that the components seen are not enough to convince me on a shorter time of delivery)

The screenshots weren't that great, but I visited twice,
and am excited to see OS4 hit the shelves with AmigaONe....
If you could generate 50,000 sales of AOS4 and AmigaONe,
you could be on a roll....
I would like to see someone develop the new AmigaOne into
a standard machine which can handle something like 16-50
video feeds at once for security outfits, think of the market,
shopping malls, hospitals, airports, sports stadiums, etc..
If it becomes a defacto standard, like The toaster did for
a while, you could hog a big share of the market, then you
could "introduce games, etc to the device" and those people
familiar with the machine would buy amigaone for home use...
and then if it runs AmigaDE, they can be associated with any
other platform, format they want...It would be a great way
to bust into the mainstream computing market....
(oooh...wake up, man you're dreaming...)

not very effective. :)
Oh, and my 030 based A1200 does like 10-15k hits and 1-2GB of traffic every day,

There were around 20 screenshots to look through, so that is why the hitcount is so high, coupled with various other screenshots and html pages. A lot of people looked through more than once (hit recorded even if data not transferred again due to local caching on the browser). Then there were the ~10 thumbnails per page as well..
You saw the pages. Hardly anything complicated there at all. I just wish the pictures had been in .png format for greater clarity.

I believe my company can stand on its record: we've never sold anything which you were not able to check out before buying and we've always delivered top-notch after sales support for our customers.
That's all that matters to me.
Now if you think I'm a moron, asshole, egomaniac, liar and what have you (just a small sample of the descriptions I've read here), that's fine with me.

:-D 47k unique hits! I suppose some of them could have been counted more than once if
they used a dial-up service with dynamic allocation of IP addresses, but still...
very encouraging! Revival of a self-sustaining Amiga platform might be a pipe dream,
but at least this shows there is still hope. To the OS4 team: Keep up the good work.
You know you have support from the majority of us. :-)
-
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Please, let us all support Amiga developers
and dealers as best we can. I've never heard of a company taking harm from extra sales,
nor have I heard of a person taking harm from some encouragement and approval. People
have a tendency of only speaking up when they have something to complain about. Please
keep in mind that a word of encouragement can make a real difference. :-)

I've owned an amiga1200T for a few years now.
I've always been amazed with the Amiga's multitasking abilities, and it's speed.
Most of all, to me, the Amiga was just "FUN". Plain and simple.
But, my 1200 was fried.
Mainly because of, I think, Haage and Partner's solution to the ide hard drive interface.
I had a terrible time with everything after OS 3.1
Wasted about 4 ide hard drives trying to figure it out... never did.
Hacks for this, and hacks for that.
It just got to the point where it was not fun anymore.
So, I shipped it to my brother in Louisiana, just to get it out of my hair.
Another matter was the video scanmodes, that plagued the Amiga for all these years.
Truth is... Junk!!!
Scandoublers... Clip this wire over that chip, put this wire there.... It never ended.
The Amiga was totaly being destroyed, and I for one, was glad to send it down the road.
Now, many who claim to be Amigans, are really PC folks running through emulation.
A very poor argument indeed of being an Amiga owner, or an amigan.
Now, comes Bill McEwen and Hyperion.
The only hope for the salvation of the Amiga if you ask me.
I will sit back and watch.
I will read serious opinion polls, just to see what Amiga has done to the new system.
And if all goes well, I will surely get back on board with the new Amiga.
Especially with the promise of Memory Management.
This is the first time that I, as a REAL Amiga user, actually have real hope in the future of Amiga.
I looked at the new screen shots, and they were breathtaking to me.
A ppc REAL Amiga.
Wonderful!!!
I hope that the time of HACKS are over!!!
A real video card that will actually run a standard monitor without the need for clips on chips.
A real IDE interface that I do not have to worry about destroying my Hard Drives.
Memory Management!!!
My only concerns are this...
1) In the screen shots, I saw the dreaded Chip Memory limitation still in tact.
That's what it looked like, anyway.
2) Broad Band DSL!!!! Speedtouch (USB) (PCI)!!! Cable modems!!!! Got to be addressed quickly.
Who uses normal modems anymore???
3) 3rd Party Support!!! ( This is the tough one )
After saying all this...
I would like to thank Bill and Hyperion for all thier hard work, on an OS that is well worth saving.
Great Job guys.
And don't let these emulation "Amigans" down ya.
They wouldn't know what an Amiga was, if it slapped em.
There are plenty of REAL Amigans, who are waiting in the wings for something REAL!

Judging by the speed at which USB drivers are appearing, I doubt it will be long before the required USB DSL modem driver turns up. Alternativly - can you not just plug a cable into your machines ethernet card?

OS4 is being developed on A4000s or A1200s with PPC accelerators. These machines have a chip RAM limitation as they have AGA. The chip RAM limit will not affect machines with graphcs cards, the AmigaOne etc. It is no more a limit than the memory on modern gfx cards anyway - in fact less so, as it can be used for things other than graphics.
> Who uses normal modems anymore???
Lots of people. I do, for one. There's no broadband available in my area even if I did want it (or, more accurately, even if I could afford it, which I can't)
3) 3rd Party Support!!! ( This is the tough one )
Yep, this is the major problem - but OS4 and the AmigaOne seems to be attracting a lot of interest from people outside the traditional Amiga community, so there is a possibility that we might get some non-Amiga companies porting their software over to OS4.

These hacks that bother you are the result of your buying the wrong
Amiga. If you want to install graphics cards, extra drives, etc you
need an A4000 or A4000T, not an A1200. The A1200 was designed as a
budget model with limited expansion.
The AmigaOne is a standard motherboard with slots, as used in the
A2000, A3000 and A4000 Amigas.

Any product, no matter what it is FOR, has that clause in the license. That's basically to cover your ass so that if someone uses your product for something it wasn't tested you can't complain back to YOU about it. On the other hand, ultrasound scanners for medical use used to have 68040's with vxWorks communicating with a 68040 mac running matlab or similar programs. Nowadays they use w2k, because (and this is a direct quote from an engineer at vingmed ultrasound) "our customers use windows and don't know there are alternatives, so we have to, or they wouldn't take us seriously". This change came when they stopped making pure hardware scanners and started putting more of the bits into software. So they can't use linux, they have to base it around w2k. For something that is used while operating on your brain or heart. Remind me not to get sick, eh?

Hacks are good for you :)
But seriously:
I run a voodoo3 2000 PCI at 1600x1200, 24-32bit in my 1200. On a 21" standard monitor. And I never had any problem with the ide interface, in fact I run a 40GB Fujitsu off of it.
