Hi, if anyone here get a message that come From: cdecanini with an attached file just delete it: It may contain a (Windows, Outlook ?) virus.
My system is not infected. It is just someone that use my email address from an italian server (X-From_: info@fastcoop.it) It looks that the list of email was taken from this web page.
Fortunately if you do not run Windows nor Outlook you should be safe. I hope it is the case :)

This is a standard Virus procedure: look up random addresses and assign them to various fields (From:, Reply-To:, &c.)
It is also a standard bulk e-mail procedure. A friend of mine received tons of emails when one of these companies filled her address in the "Reply-To:" field and some of the addresses in the "To:" field were invalid. She was unable to accomplish anything in email.

And people wonder why i stick to this address? :) Not that i'm calling anyone stupid, i'm not. But i was mail bombed, sent viruses, even flooded, just for posting comments here that some people didnt wan't to hear. And for companys swapping the reply-to field, blame the US congress for that. They made email spam legal over there. The problem is, no companys play by the rules. :P

The Joke is on you Amiga folks, You believe that MS Virus do not attack Amiga,
then you are most likely misled, there are tones of virus some are Java,
some are VBS, and some are PHP, and some do not go by common rules, some are EXE,
I do run Linux (never check mail with Windows or surf with IE),
this do not mean that viruses can not be spread true bye LinuxBox,
and hurt otters, I do like to know the sender,
I my self have setup an agenda to sort spam from the real mail,
at the current state my program only filters
emails servers it can't sort out mail with "XXX" or "FREE" and "Offers",
the program is in C and is most likely almost
recompile it for Amiga if any one cars to make a port,
!! NO GUI provided. !!

oohh, and exactly HOW is that going to touch my Amiga? let look at each one:
VBSMS Visual Basic Script..aheem no that one wont start :)
PHPhmmm...wouldn't this mean i would have to start up apache first to be able to run it?...nope wont infect my Amiga :)
JAVAsorry but most Amiga Users dont run a JAVA compiler & checks mail at the same time.
EXEEXEcutable file...this one could infect my machine IF it where compiled for the Amiga but most files named #?.exe is an MS file anyway...so chance of infection = 1 of 100.000 mails...
and you forgot one of the most common ones right now...
SCRExecutable file nomally used for Windows Screensavers - usually named like Anna_kournikova_nude_pic.JPG.scr or similar...wont infect any Amiga.
>I do run Linux (never check mail with Windows or surf with IE),
Good. Never join the dark side. ;)
>at the current state my program only filters
>emails servers it can't sort out mail with "XXX" or "FREE" and "Offers",
YAM filters out stuff like this for me pretty good.
>the program is in C and is most likely almost
>recompile it for Amiga if any one cars to make a port,
huh???...you lost me here...ARE you a Virus maker? or are you saying you have access to virus-code? anyway...if you try to port it you will see that it aint that easy...
>!! NO GUI provided. !!
ooh noo!! no gui?...sounds like you have been using MS products too long! ;)

My point is sun or later some kind of script or .net, AmigaDE, APIPE, http will be supported,
and with the this will never happen to me policy you my easily be a target
to an attack, Linux viruses are not common even so I do keep my easy open for attacks,
I do scan my local ports to Se if any new ports have opened for outgoing/incoming traffic,
I have not used YAM, if it support this nice!!!,
how ever my system is POP3 local server with filter, and an Get-Mail client,
Mail can be sorted by sender, or by server, by having this part separate from the mail client,
I can use any email client i like to with out the worry of about the security in the email client,
If you like to make an better email client then YAM you find it
easy as here are no encryption involved and the POP is command based service,
if you telnet port 110 or 35 you will be able to type the command manually,
PS. HTTP, POP3 and SMTP is explained in the RFC archive.
---
> ooh noo!! no gui?...sounds like you have been using MS products too long! ;)
Ye got bored with the GUI, no I have not used allot of time on the config thing.
if you don't know most linux programs use text based console text based environment,
this her AmigaDOS / AmigaShell has it grips over Linux.
---
> huh???...you lost me here...ARE you a Virus maker?
> or are you saying you have access to virus-code? anyway...
> if you try to port it you will see that it is not that easy...
I have access to virus-code only if Linux-code is considered to be Virus-code,
do not think it is hard to port my own code, it's in C code you know.
how about if I make support for VBS, and make an Email
client called InnLook, I have UAE you know :)
Making an VBS runtime environment this is an joke...

110kb? This must be that new virus that deletes your Windows installation and replaces it with a x86 version of Workbench 1.2 ;)

Which mailclient for Amiga would run java?
Which mailclient for Amiga would run the attachement just when you open the mail?
Which mailclient does support visual basic? or runing Amiga Basic?
Which mailclient hsa a built in PHP engine?
Which mailclient for Amiga runs windows binaries?
The virus binaries that are there, are quite microsoft windows based, so a simple recompiling aren't enough, and if you want to affect enough Amigans to make sence of making your virus, you have to make it to work on all mailer programs, which will make it even larger.
The only virus with GUI is microsofts windows.
So every none-windows user don' care about the hords of viruses that comes out for windows, as they won't effect at all on the same way, just making the apache logfile huge thanks all stupid IIS users.

Hey lets get real... Most of us have another computer besides our FANTASTIC Amigas..
I have 6 Amigas to our 1 PC and 1 iMac... True the exec files don't work on the Amiga..
I recieved the W32Klez virus this week... It did not tounch the Amiga... nor the mac.
All machines are networked... The PC.. HP Pavilion did indeed get infected and it destroyed 78
files... This being my first real experience with a virus... It took several hours to get the thing
finally removed... And now I really take viruses seriously.... I believe that I got over 100 returned mails
where the virus tried to send out to others on my email address (god thing my Netscape address book is small)
and it was a refused email from other virus protected servers... Boy what a joy that wasn't..
Rule #1 viruses are getting smarter.
Rule #2 get anti virus protection for your computers.
Rule #3 It is only going to get worse..
Keep the Faith...
May the Amiga live long and PROSPER...

But still, a topic like this has nothing to do in an Amiga news site, it's really a matter for windows news sites. I think Amiga sites should try to keep clean from things like alternative OS's and "Amiga emulators", but as the Amigans are the minority, so don't the majority care.

What has that to do with Amiga ? I'm not interested about any Windows viruses.
Don't use MicroShit OS and mailers and you are safe :) Ihave used outlook at work and I think YAM is much better, so if someone does use Outlook then it's his own fault if viruses destroy his harddrive. :)

If you you're not interested in this virus warning DONT READ THE ARTICLE OR THE COMMENTS! Simple really. Other people (such as myself) may well find the information useful though so stop complaining.

It so narrow mined to say it has noting to do with Amiga, do you know most server you are looking at to day,
are NT4.0, Linux, ScoUnix, Solaris, Unix. if one agrees virus halt and crashes one of this serves you may
suffer from not having access to web pages or the serve my halt, or the Internet
traffic stales so you do not have access to even upend ruining servers. This is an global issue.

It is so IDIOTIC for some of these people at work to think that MS hung the world..
Oh ......Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..
As the Amiga will get more popular ,.... so we too may soon be getting some of these nasty viruses, zombies, worms and
trogan horses.... I'm sure some deranged individual with so much time on their hands will oblige.

Oh for fucks sake, you all make it sound like there is no anti virus protection on Windows, and no other email clients on Windows other than Outlook or Outlook Express. If you want to stay safe from viruses on Windows, get a good virus checker like Kaspersky Anti Virus and/or an alternative emal program such as The Bat.
I've had Hybris, Magistr, Klez and Badtrans emailed to me (and I use OE) and not one of them has infected my machine thanks to Kaspersky Antivirus. It's all about clue.

Even if all Windows servers would be infected of a virus that made them unuseble, it wouldn't be an Amiga news, even if it could affect many Amiga users.

if it effects the Amiga user group then it's relevant,
even so the point is we most say alert even if we/you do not feel Trenton now,
we will be seeing more virus, if the bandwidth this fragile network get
stooled by worms and virus it will infect you're ability to view pages
that my be Amiga relevant or user relevant to the Amiga User.
i don't know if you remember the Red Alert and W32 virus ?
that attacked web-server and infected MS web-servers,
and soled the rest of the network by the intense traffic sent.
