Apex Designs have published a new status report on the progress of the Intent version of Payback. There are also three maps (one new, two updated) available on the extra maps page.

Looking very promising. This would actually tempt me to buy a PDA...
Will there be a new version for AOS4 as well I wonder?
To bad that my '060 has dropped dead. My Payback map-making days are sadly over
(at least on the classic) - I cannot even play it anymore on this crappy '030 :-(

I totally agree with SlimJim. It's a real tempter for buying a PDA! Does the GBA have any games like this? Maybe a GB emulator could be ported to intent too - that would rule! hehe

Perhaps Rik thinks that 060 cards are expensive items.

interesting how they (virtual prog) are not using amigeDEad and have
not bothered with teh amino clowns but are working with tao directly.
proves that the *current* sdk has no advantages over tao technology and is just a ripoff rebranding/exlusive sda for amino for updates that tao released on a magazine cover for 5 pounds!!!
enjoy being 'fleeced' amino groupies.

as for the game itself..congratulations to the team tho they are definetly doing great work
looks good tho i feel intent might be holding the game back in terms of low level bang per buck for pda..
ever seen a kick ass 3d game in java/??
get my point?

or he might just like payback for intent and didn't comment about 060 at all.. in that case he would probably have pressed "reply to this comment" aswell.

it's vp assembly not java.
And a strongarm @ 206MHz is quite fast compared to many Amigas.. And the resolution is low so why not.

In my view of things Amiga and Tao are pretty good mates, and IIRC whats in the screen shot looks every alike to the AmigaSDK ( altho i've only used it on linux ).

There is very little difference between the public AmigaSDK and early restricted releases of Taos Intent environment.

So you've never seen JQuake? Works pretty good here, can't run the original 1.06 version on this system due to win2k server choking on the 3D routines but the Java version runs great, there's even a Q2 port in process for Java. There's also a damn good 3D flight sim that runs in 32bit but I can't remember the name of it off hand. I've saw two or three 3D race sims, 4 person arcade games (a la gauntlet), a couple of 2 person beat'em ups that looked like virtual fighters, and even some interesting sim type games at the last JavaOne convention. JQuake has been around since the Quake source code was released, a working version was released about 3 months after one of the open Amiga Quake ports was done. If you ask me though, I don't think Java would be the best programming language for any type of game that requires heavy 3D processing (rendering is another story).

Its just lying in a drawer. If you want it you can have it. Given that *very shortly* I will be taking delivery of some new hardware ( ;-) ) I seriously doubt that my classic hardware will get much use anyway.

Of course it is, what do you expect. Of course it had a little bit extra in there, like Amiga Demos, but they only had the technology for a little of a year (or under). You can not expect them to learn the ins and outs of Elate/intent in under a year.

Not sure how to do this via e-mail its a general rule that I dont give out my e-mail on public bbs.
Perhaps via an intermediate - or are you on the A1G3 list? MikeyC knows my e-mail address so if you know him we can share email addys via him.

In reply to Comment 16 (cOrpse):
The reason it doesn't look any different is because there *IS* no difference
between the Tao SDK and the Amiga kit they were releasing a year or so ago.
Even Fleecy will freely admit (now) that nobody out here has seen his precious
Amiga Anywhere environment outside of investors and close developers.
It just seems a little sick really that Amiga made a big deal over having so
much to do with the AmigaSDK when in fact they rebadged a bunch of Tao software.
We all complained that they had rebadged Tao software and they denied it and
were adamant they were putting one hell of a lot of work into it! It's just a
sad pity that most people never SAW that work, and paid $99 (or more) for the
privilege.
